Copperbelt Jack Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 I apologize if this is redundant, but I've been trying every solution on these threads to get them to work, but to no avail. I recently made some MiG-29A exterior textures and made the correct folder in the Bazar/Liveries directory, placed the .dds files there/in a created TestTextures folder/in the WolrdBMPS.zip and attempted to load the textures in DCS World (created a mission with the skin selected) but the textures do not show. What am I doing/not doing that is not allowing my skins to load? More over, how does one skin for the MiG-29A when the description.lua file isn't anything like that in the A-10C skinning tutorial, but instead uses an ID to associate with the textures (I'm assuming considering it is all that differentiates one livery .lua from another)? Thank you for the help in advance.
speckfire Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 (edited) The skins of the mig-29 go to \Bazar\temptextures. It replaces certain existing ones depending on the naming convention and it does not use a description.lua file. It can be made to have it's own slot but that's a little complicated and don't know if it works in DCSW like it did in FC2 This one replaces the 3rd of 4th slot on the russian side. File name under \bazar\temptextures MIG-29C-PAINT-def-l3.bmp MIG-29C-PAINT-def-r3.bmp Edited May 24, 2013 by speckfire Speed is life !!!
Copperbelt Jack Posted May 25, 2013 Author Posted May 25, 2013 (edited) Thank you for the reply, speckfire. I have the files there in the TempTextures folder as well (if I listed all of the places I've tried placing these textures in to get it to work, I'd have a FAR longer post lol), however when you say replace, do you mean that when those files are there in the TempTextures folder they are meant to overwrite existing .dds texture files there (because these are my .dds files are the only MiG textures there) or just placing them with the same name as one of the other already existing textures will allow my textures to be read instead of the others (if that makes any sense). I'm just afraid of overwriting any of the default texture files with this in case they still don't work is all. BTW, kickass paint you have there. Edited May 25, 2013 by Copperbelt Jack
speckfire Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 Hi CJ, thanks for the compliment. When I say replaces I mean in terms of appearance in the game and not over writing any default mig texture files. There should not be any default mig skins in temptextures from DCSW. Any Mig texture you put in temptextures is read/loaded first by DCSW over the default skin. Also you cannot have your own skin titles for the mig textures as you see in my 1st post, you have to use the same existing naming convention since you will not be using a description.lua file. For a test rename your Mig skin textures in temptextures to MIG-29C-PAINT-def-l3.bmp.dds MIG-29C-PAINT-def-r3.bmp .dds and check in the game or modelviewer under Mig-29S 115th Guards regiment Termez AB Speed is life !!!
Copperbelt Jack Posted May 25, 2013 Author Posted May 25, 2013 Excellent! Thank you very much, speckfire. It worked perfectly! High five.
BerkesAtti Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Dear speckfire, I`ve had the same problem untill now. It works the way you wrote. I place my two dds files in bazar/TempTextures with the same names you told us and start the mission with marking the Mig-29S 115th Guards regiment Termez AB... and for the first time i could fly my own skin...so far, so good...but, what if i made other skins too and i`d like my wingman to wear the skin i created...how should i name the other dds skin files...and how do i know where to start them from...2nd fs `swifts` team, kubinka ab or 1038th guards ctc, mary ab etc., ... i would really appreciate if you could help me.../of course i mean single player/...thank you...
speckfire Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Hi BerkesAtti Here is the mig-29 file naming convention. The numbers at the end of the filename usually mean the position of the skin in the drop down box when you select it in the mission editor. Speed is life !!!
