DieHard Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 When the DCS: P-51D was in Beta, there were warnings from the testing crew, that upon final release, pilots would have to be careful not leaving WEP on too long or suffer engine damage. Today I flew on Merlin-27's server and I had the throttle firewalled easily 10 minutes, probably longer, and I suffered no problems. Is this a setting a server owner can set to less damage or did DCS ever implement the WEP limitation? Thanks. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
rdop Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 As far as SP is concerned, you can pop the motor running WEP too long. Just did it this AM after a hiatus (playing the Huey too much) chasing the Dora.

Thanks. hey diehard! i know for a fact that merlin didnt touch anything in the realism settings to change the WEP behaviour of the pony...(i dont think one can) i think, as long as you stay fast enough and therefore the cooling flaps work sufficient, you can leave WEP on for quite some time until it really does damage to the engine... anyway, an official word from yo-yo on this would be very appreciated!
Bushmanni Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Try climbing at 150kts with WEP on. It's not smart to do in any way but will demonstrate the heating and cooling model very nicely. You might also wan't to try redlining the temp gauge and then diving at idle and at about 300kts for few thousand feet and see what happens.
