Maulkin Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 1)I am playing around with the mission editor and I noted that I could not set any waypoints for the UH-1H. Is this normal? The work-around was set up a flight plan for some other heli then change it to the Huey once I was done. 2) I am trying to set up a mission to test out what I saw in this video: At timestamp 2:20 he demonstrates how to home in on a beacon that some infantry have set up but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do that in the mission editor. Can someone tell me? --Maulkin Windows 10 64-bit - AMD Ryzen 9 5900X @ 3.7 GHz - 32 GB DDR4 3600MHz RAM - EVGA FTW3 RTX 3080 - Asus Crosshair VIII Hero motherboard - Samsung EVO Pro 1 TB SSD - TrackIR 4 Pro - Thrustmaster Warthog - Saitek rudder pedals - Lilliput UM-80/C with TM Cougars

Normal would be: place heli on map, while heli is selected (yellow), click "Add" button on "Waypoints" tab, click on map to place additional waypoint(s) 2) this could help: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1908044#post1908044
Maulkin Posted November 19, 2013 Author Posted November 19, 2013 1) OK I see what you mean now. Typically I was able to place the unit on the map and then continue to left click to set waypoints but what you described is much easier than what I was doing. Thanks! :) 2)I didnt really understand everything that was in that thread. I found in the "triggered actions" I could set a "perform command" action to "set frequency" but then they were talking about sending something and I dont know what they mean by that. They also mentioned a "Radio Navigation Beacon" but I dont know where you would get one of those from. --Maulkin Windows 10 64-bit - AMD Ryzen 9 5900X @ 3.7 GHz - 32 GB DDR4 3600MHz RAM - EVGA FTW3 RTX 3080 - Asus Crosshair VIII Hero motherboard - Samsung EVO Pro 1 TB SSD - TrackIR 4 Pro - Thrustmaster Warthog - Saitek rudder pedals - Lilliput UM-80/C with TM Cougars

The "Add Waypoint" function should be active as default when you place a new unit on the map. If there is a Huey specific problem ... no idea, never really payed too much attention to it. :o) 2) All this is not a too easy topic that could be covered in depth with a few lines of text. Perhaps you want to search the forums for the terms "beacon", "ADF" and for anything related to radios and radio navigation in general. What it is all about is: you want to use your radio that is ADF capable (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_direction_finder#Automatic_direction_finder_.28ADF.29) to give you the direction to someone who is transmitting via radio. That means, there must be an actual transmission, someone sending over the radio. In the ME this can be emulated with a triggered action "RADIO TRANSMISSION" for a zone (i.e. not a unit transmits, but a "zone". to make a moving unit transmit something ... hrm, haven't tried that, yet). There you specify frequency, modulation, optional a text (appears on screen) and a sound file (can be heared :o) A radio nav beacon is a radio transmitter that can be used for homing / ADF. That is a stationary transmitter placed at known positions that sends (it's ID / name in morse code) on known frequencies (--> flight charts) to aid pilots navigating, for example when approaching an airport. Similar to a light house. :o) You can't add genuine nav beacons by yourself in the ME, but you can still emulate it's functionality the same way as described above. edit: concerning "triggered action": i wrote that you have to use triggered actions ... what I meant was: TRIGGERS->TYPE/CONDITIONS/ACTIOS - the global triggers. Sorry for confusing you. And when I realized me being unclear, I also saw that a unit's "Triggered Actions" also allow you to transmit via radio by using "Perform Command: Transmit Message". I think, this is what you might have missed. It is the same idea behind it here as I wrote earlier: the unit needs to actually send something. (Hrm, and this also answers my own question of how moving units could possibly be used for ADF :o) Edited November 19, 2013 by Flagrum
Maulkin Posted November 21, 2013 Author Posted November 21, 2013 (edited) Oh I know how to use an ADF (my first post shows a great example of how to do it in the Huey). I am simply trying to figure out how to set an infantry unit as a transmitter so I can practise it. This topic is about the editor, not playing a mission. :) I browsed among the single player missions and campain missions until I found one that does something similar and I saw that there were two stages: one to set the transmitter frequency, and the other to play an .ogg sound file in a loop. But what I cannot figure out is their choice of file. I cannot find it anywhere. The mission I am referring to is 'Elbrus Rescue' and if you look at one of the infantry units on the mountain top, one of them (the left group) sets a transmitter to a frequency of 40.5 MHz and then uses the sound file 'ELT-tone.ogg' that is played in a loop. Where did they find the file ELT-tone.ogg? It also looks like they did not use a triggered action, but rather used advanced waypoint actions instead. But I might know where you can find it! When you select a sound file in the ME (from your hard disk - however it got there ...), it gets stored inside the .MIZ file. You can access that (and all other related) files of a mission when you rename it to .ZIP and open it with a zip utility.
Maulkin Posted November 22, 2013 Author Posted November 22, 2013 (edited) OK I think I get it now. I extracted the ELT-tone.ogg from the 'Elbrus Rescue.miz' file and put it onto my desktop. Then from my own mission I opened the advanced waypoint actions for the infantry unit, and selected the .ogg file I just put on my desktop. Then I saved my mission, exited the editor and opened my new mission file and found that the .ogg file has been packaged into the .miz file. Very cool! Now I need to test it out and see if it is working. :) Thanks Flagrum for all your help!
