While changing my loadout from Paveways to JDAMs because I was operating in heavy rain and snow, I noticed a huge weight difference between these two bombs. In the game, a GBU-10 weighs around 500 lbs more than a GBU-31. This doesn't make sense intuitively -- could a laser guidance kit really weigh 500 lbs more than a GPS/INS guidance kit?

I don't know how reliable this is as a source, but this website confirmed my suspicion. It lists weights at the very last table at the bottom of the page.

Paveway II GBU-10 weighs around 2,110 to 2,130 lbs

JDAM GBU-31 weighs around 2,085 to 2,162 lbs

A couple thousand pounds can make a big difference. Could this use some rebalancing?

Only info on GBU-31

Weight (lbs.) – MK-84 (AF 2039; Navy 2059), BLU-109 (AF 2118; Navy 2138)

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

I'm sure the G-10 weighs more than the G-31 but by how much I dont know. The fins on any 2,000lb class bomb are very heavy. I cant tell you off the top of my head how much a KMU (JDAM fin) weighs versus a MXU-651 (G-10 Fin) but they are not that far apart. The MAU-169 that goes on the front of the G-10 weighs up close to 100lbs though. FWIW I think the G-10 in game is modeled like it uses the BLU-109 warhead but it looks like a MK-84. If you used a BLU-109 it would require a "Hardback Assembly" which is basically a big chunk of metal that spans the suspension lugs and it also weighs a good bit (again I forget the weight). The G-31 in game is a (V)1 or MK-84 body and would not use the Hardback so there could be part of that weight diff. I dont think there should be 500lbs between the two of them though!

Go Ugly Early!
