Question about AAR-47-MWS

I was wondering how the Missile Warning System works in the A10C. I'm not 100% sure but I think I remember cases when MWS didn't warn me from incoming missile, which I think was heat seeker MANPAD or similar to sidewinder. It's apparently part of the radar warning system (or how you properly call it) but is it supposed to detect all the threats on the area or does DCS simulate is somehow that it can miss those smaller missiles? Or most likely of them all, do I remember wrong or some buggy version of the game. ;)

 

P.S. what version of the pod do we have in the sim?

The MWS uses the RWR display but basically looks for the missile, be it heat seeking, radar or your wingman's mavericks. It will have some blind spots and if a missile is launched at long range it may not detect it.

 

By "pod", do you mean the ECM pod on the wing? If yes then it is the ALQ-131 and we will soon have the ALQ-184. This simply tries to jam an enemy radar and doesn't affect the MWS at all.

The MWS has four big 'eyes' that stare out to detect the rocket motor plume. This, like everything, has a somewhat limited range, so for very long ranged missile launches it won't pick up the missile since the rocket will have already burned out.

 

The system does have some blind-spots, and sometimes it has a bit of a delay as well IIRC.
