Raven_Morpheus Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 (edited) Hello I'm sure this is a fairly noob question but I decided to have a go at the Night Patrol single mission. I was happily flying along, slightly off to the left of the line indicating the route to the 2nd waypoint when I was told via subtitles that there was a group of friendly vehicles on a road low right. Now, I'm doing 230kph so I had no chance to take a look, even if I could see them considering the poor visibility. Then a few seconds later I get another message via subtitles to navigate to Target Point coordinates 44, 27, 22 North, 39, 23, 14 East. So, noob question - how do I do that? Basically need a tutorial to look at/read, I'm sure it's probably got something to do with the panel where you select waypoints but that's about as much as I can guess... Thanks in advance. Sylvan Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Navigation in the Black Shark is mostly a matter of learning how to use the PVI-800 and the ABRIS. Both systems are (reasonably) well explained in the manual and there are also several good tutorials on the web if you search for it, for example the Producer's Notes that someone kindly gathered in HD on their YouTube channel: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=56884 It's going to take you hours of studying and practice if you want to completely understand how to utilize these systems properly so dig in! :) 1
Jona33 Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 11. PVI Master Mode selector can be rotated left [RALT + V] and right [RALT + B]: o “ОТКЛ” = Powers the PVI-800 off. o “КВД” = Verification of entered data. This mode allows you to check a waypoint’s coordinate and other data without changing the active navigation mode or steerpoint. o “ВВОД” = Edit waypoint. This function allows you to enter waypoint coordinates, wind conditions, and other data. To do so: Select EDIT Press “ППМ” and the small upper window will display the total number of waypoints currently stored. Press 1 – 6 on the keypad to select the desired waypoint number and the current waypoint coordinates will be displayed. Using the keypad, enter new coordinates for the selected waypoint. Note that you should indicate N/S or E/W prior to entering the coordinate. To make the coordinate positive, press the 0 key first; to make the coordinate negative, press the 1 key first. When set to negative, a “-“ symbol will appear left of the coordinate. After the coordinate has been entered, press the ENTER button. Or, you may press CANCEL to clear the data on the display. This is from the Ka-50 manual, it might help. It's page 137 by the way. Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing
Raven_Morpheus Posted December 14, 2013 Author Posted December 14, 2013 (edited) Thanks guys, I thought it had something to do with the PVI-800 (the thing I use to show me the direction of waypoints on the hud but can never recall the name of). I'll check out those vids, I came across them the other day but haven't really been looking, the ones I watched were telling me things I already knew so I gave up watching them. Just out of interest - I'm guessing from just reading Jona33's post that by editing a waypoint I won't lose the existing waypoints, I'll just be changing where the one I select goes to. So at the time I got that message telling me to go to the coordinates I was heading for waypoint 2, so if I selected waypoint 2 to edit I'd just be changing it's location and the waypoints after that in the route would still be there. Is that correct? Edited December 14, 2013 by Raven_Morpheus
Sylvan Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Just out of interest - what happens to the old waypoints that are already present when I start the mission if I enter a new waypoint? Do they disappear on the ABRIS map? No, the ABRIS and the PVI-800 maintain separate databases, meaning if you alter a waypoint in the PVI-800 it won't affect the currently loaded ABRIS flight plan at all, and vice versa.

Ah I see, so I'll only see the edited/new waypoint as the carat on my hud, not as a blue line on the ABRIS map.
