Questions regarding the FC autopilots

Simple and short today (I always say that, doesn't usually turn out that way :P)

 

Can someone explain to me what all those different autopilots for the Flaming Cliffs aircraft do? And which one is most like the default A-10C one, that holds heading and altitude?

Route-following and Landing; = default A - Follows the set waypoints present in the mission editor for your aircraft.

 

Combat steering; default LAlt+2 - Holds the level of bank to the left or right while maintaining altitude, good for orbiting over a target area.

 

Attitude hold mode (retains current pitch and bank); = default LAlt+1 - Self explanitory, holds what ever 'attitude' the aircraft is in when engaged.

 

Barometric altitude hold; = default LAlt+4 - hold current altitude ASL

 

Radar altitude hold with automatic terrain avoidance; = default LAlt+5 - holds current altitude AGL with terrain avoidance radar (not ideal in mountains)

 

Emergency Level Mode; = default LAlt+3 - Flies the aircraft straight and level.

 

The 'A-10C mode' you mentioned is probably Level Mode (default LAlt+3) this will hold the aircraft on the heading indicated when engaging mode 3 and will level the aircraft out at the altitude indicated when mode 3 was pressed.

 

Default LAlt+9 Disengages your Autopilot however it is strongly advised to change these settings in your Options, personally I have all my AP commands mapped to my NumPad Keys... so if I want AP mode 3 I just press '3' on the NumPad or what ever mode I want with '0' being my AP disengage button on my NumPad with another button set on my HOTAS.
