CODE OF CONDUCT (Revised 8/2/2018)
71st_ ACES HIGH is an organized group of combat flight simulation enthusiasts that flies with both honor and dignity. How each individual member conducts them self while flying online reflects upon every other member of the 71st_ACES HIGH SQUADRON.
This Code of Conduct is intended to be all-inclusive. It is a description of the expected behavior of any person participating as an 71st_ACES HIGH member in a hobby we have all shown so much interest in. If everyone remembers that 71st_ACES HIGH is about honor and having fun, and conducts themselves accordingly, then we will continue to have a squadron that is respected throughout the combat flight simulation community.
While flying with the 71st_AH_ “tag”, you are considered to be “In uniform”, and will conduct yourself accordingly. You will show proper respect to all other participants, as follows:
1) Language considered to be inappropriate will not be tolerated. This includes commonly used obscenities and profanities, as well as any other statement intended to be demeaning or offensive towards another person's or group's race, age, gender, sexual preferences, socioeconomic status, nationality, location, or belief system. Similarly, 71st_ACES HIGH members will not make public statements that are defamatory or derogatory towards other flight sim enthusiasts and their squads. This policy applies to all forms of communication used while "in uniform", but especially to the following:
-- posts made on the front page "wall" of the 71st_ACES HIGH website;
-- posts made on the forums of the 71st_ACES HIGH website;
-- posts made on the forums of other websites;
-- private messages; and
-- oral statements made via public voice chat (e.g., ATAG TeamSpeak).
2) While flying "in uniform", you will not openly accuse anyone of cheating or unfair play. If you suspect another of cheating or unfair play, report it privately to a 71st_ACES_HIGH Squadron Commander or Executive Commander, along with corroborating testimony and/or evidence whenever possible. Squadron Command will then, if they deem it necessary and appropriate, forward the matter to the relevant squad leader(s) and/or server administrator(s) for further investigation. This includes any suspicion of cheating by another 71st_AH member.
If you are accused of cheating by another player while you are "in uniform", a simple response such as "No one in this squadron cheats, sir," or "We don't have to," and a dignified exit will do much more to prove the accuser wrong than arguing the point.
3) 71st_ACES HIGH members currently fly several combat flight simulations, including the IL-2 Sturmovik series, Digital Combat Simulator, and Rise of Flight. There exist several software programs (commonly called "Mods") that modify a game's original files in some form or fashion. Any 71st_ACES HIGH member may, at their discretion, experiment with these Mods and use them in non-competitive environments. However, at no time will a 71st_ACES HIGH member use a Mod that gives them an unfair competitive advantage in any multiplayer online server. This is considered a form of cheating and will not be tolerated. Accusations of cheating by a 71st_ACES HIGH member will be thoroughly investigated and, if found to be valid, will result in disciplinary action.
4) 71st_AH members, when in the same flight sim server, will try to fly together in an effort to promote teamwork and cohesion. For this reason, we encourage all members to use our Squadron TeamSpeak server in order to better communicate and coordinate their operations; this is not a requirement, however.
5) Proper courtesy and respect will be shown towards all other 71st_ACES HIGH members at all times. Any grievances, difficulties, or problems relating to 71st_ACES HIGH members should first be resolved privately between the relevant parties. If this is not possible, the matter should then be reported to a member of the Squadron's Command Staff (i.e., the Commanders and Executive Commanders), who will then mediate the dispute. Disputes are never to discussed with those outside the Squadron, but instead addressed in private via the chain of command, which is available to all members.
6) Any member observed exhibiting behavior deemed not to be in accordance with the Code of Conduct, and on being told by a ranking officer to desist, will immediately do so. The ranking member present in any given situation has the authority over all other members of lower rank. Any member who, after being told to desist, continues to violate the Code of Conduct, will face disciplinary action as determined by a quorum of the Squadron Command Staff; or, in the absence of a quorum, by the 71st_ACES HIGH Commanding Officer. Said disciplinary action shall consist of a formal reprimand and a $10 fine for the first offense; removal of all rank and a temporary ban from the 71st_ACES HIGH website and associated servers, both penalties enduring for 15 days, and a $25 fine, for a second offense; and dismissal from the Squadron and a permanent ban from its website and associated servers for a third offense. All fines shall go towards paying for the annual renewal of the Squadron’s website on Enjin.
One more thing: Ultimately, we are all playing a game. This is a group of organized and like-minded individuals who enjoy the game. We are all here to have fun, but we should never take the game so seriously that it detracts from our enjoyment of it.
Finally: REAL LIFE ALWAYS COMES FIRST! We will always be understanding of circumstances outside of our group that at times will take us away from the game and the Squadron. 71st_ACES HIGH is full of supportive individuals who encourage their squad mates and respect their circumstances. We hope you will be part of that experience.
