Ok, im really new to this game and all.. plus I rarely fly american birds but.. I'll try answer as much as I can..
First off please watch all the tutorials again so your memory freshens up..
You have to change at what direction the radar is looking to find an enemy, see your key configuration how to do this, also you can "zoom in and out" with the radar (sorry all, i dont know the correct terms  ) The more you zoom out the longer you will be able to see, and the lower zoom the closer to your aircraft you will be watching, Its generally OK to start with a rather zoomed out mode until you spot someone, and as he gets closer you zoom in to see if hes alone or not.
They will on the american radar screen appear as a small block and in the middle of the little screen theres a symbol looking somewhat like this " || "
You have to take that and put it over the little block thing so the radar knows what you want to lock, once its over it, hit tab. If the conditions are right and everything works, you will get a lock and you will clearly see it on your HUD.
The range of which you are able to lock someone does not depend on the missile, but other conditions such as your altitude and his altitude etc. However once you have a lock then yes, the range which you are able to fire at will depend on the missile ^_^
Vertial scan and Bore mode is CAC, Close Air Combat modes, you are supposed to use them if an enemy gets too close to make use of your radar in a effecient way.. I cant tell you the exact difference between these 2 on a US bird tho
The target designation mode on the russian birds are the helmet target designator, the US does not have this. soo again, i dont know.
The '6' on russian planes are used when your radar/hud or whatever fails, perhaps after getting hit by a missile.. You can use this mode to target someone at close distance directly via the seeker on IR missiles instead of using the onboard systems, afaik this is to only be used during a such condition and you should refrain from using it if everything is working fine
The A-10 maverick missiles are sort of fun.. Basically, there are 2 types of them. IR and TV but they work essentially the same but are used in different conditions
If you ever watched the tutorial explaining the A-10, this should already be pretty clear to you, but what you do is pretty much to bring up the ground attack mode, select your mavericks and the display to your right will fire up showing what the missiles see and a big cross in the middle, you need to get the cross above your target and hit the lock key, if locked properly it will align (the cross) automagically towards the target and I think theres a small indicator that starts blinking when its a good lock
And if you think its too hard, too little time getting it done, you need to either
a) Get faster :joystick: or b) Get some distance between you and the enemy so you have plenty of time
A good idea is to map the controls to your joystick
Again, if anything is inaccurate (most of it? :)) i appologise, but maybe it might be a bit useful :|
