Dear pilots.
I am a DCS Rookie from Germany and I am pleased to be writing my first lines in this beautifull forum. Even if my words adress a well
known problem. This problem is certainly not limited to DCS, but DCS in VR was an integral part of my decision to
upgrade my PC from an Intel to an AMD powered one (besides gaming i do creative work like music production, 3d modeling
and cad also).
The cpu of my old Intel system was an I7 7820K on an Asus Prime X299 Deluxe motherboard together with an Asus Rog RTX 3090 OC.
I was totally overwhelmed by the image quality of my new Reverb G2 which in fact is my first VR Headset ever. It was always razor-sharp and the
colors vivid. Unfortunately, by the time I was putting the new system together, I didn't know anything about the problems of
the G2 and AMD systems.
And ... well, here I am
After many unsuccessful attempts to put the Reverb G2 into operation, I have now found a USB port which is capable of
operating the G2. But compared to the image quality i got with the Intel system, it is visibly worse with the AMD system.
I get jagged edges and shimmering (imagine some small raindrops on a window), kind of washed-out or blurry textures as well
as text, the screen door effect is noticeable, albeit softly. In general I get simply everything that wasn't there before,
although I am using the settings from the Intel system. Remember that i do compare the image quality, only. Of course with everything up to date
so far. Not FPS is what matters at the moment.
My actual Specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9500X
Mobo: Crosshair VIII Dark Hero Wifi
GPU: Asus Rog RTX 3090 OC
RAM: 32 GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 3600
WMR ist set for perfect visuals at 90Hz. SteamVR global SS is set to 150% and SteamVR per app SS is set to 60% for DCS.
DCS PD is set to 1.5, i am using MSAA x4 and I am using the medium quality settings also. Despite all of this the 3D World in DCS (outside the cockpit in sepcial) is a war of pixels, not of planes. I guess not my overall Hardware is what is to blame.
As a last option - and due to the fact i ordered the G2 two month ago - today I ordered the modified cable through HP customer service, as I have read about the bad signal of the old cable in relation to AMD systems. So I think a bad signal due to the old cable is causing my problems and i just wanna know your thoughts about that.
Do you think the new cable will bring back my old visuals again?
Thanks in Advance and stay healthy, Guys.
Greetings from Germany,
Timo
