Well the current drive I was running the release version on was a WD 1TB Black high performance drive and it ran fine. I forget if I ran the game on the C Drive SSD and put the rest on the spinney drive as I forget as it's been on there a long time. Anyhow, I just bought a 2 TB Samsung SSD just in case. Here is the link though to the WD Gaming Hard drive I got.
Thanks

Alrighty then, time for for more new drives.
I just bought 2 4TB drives for my current non-gaming pc and a few 16TB for my backup storage drive box, so a few more drives won't hurt (except for the wallet). I know SSD's are cheaper now but a WD spinny gaming drive may be what I add as the DCS simulator seems to run ok with them.
Thanks
Added: I just ordered a 6TB WD high performance gaming drive with 256MB cache for $119 with free shipping direct from WD.

I usually use the Beta version but keep the release version up to date and check for updates once in a while. I tried to update this yesterday and it says I don't have enough room on my hard drive. Is the upgrade really this large and it's telling the truth? I have the Beta and the release version both on the same 1TB hard drive. I have another 1 TB hard drive with 549GB free so could I move the existing files there or is it time for bigger hard drives?
Thanks

Will this work for you?

Crosswind Pedals:
Controls - Unmap the L/R Rudder mapping (for the Pilot and CP/G) and use it for something else.
Axis Assign - Assign rudder axis to your Crosswinds.
OpenTrack:
It should be detected by DCS in the Axis Assign option for Head Tracker (in pitch, roll, up/down, left right, yaw and head fwd/aft). You may need to start OpenTrack first before starting DCS so that it gets detected and shows up in Axis Assign.
Cheers! Thanks for the info. I already figured out and unmapped the Pilot controls for the Crosswinds but forgot about the CP/G. I didn't have Opentrack started before I started so that is why I had some issues there. I will fix that today. I did set my curves too. I was able to fly a little bit yesterday but that tracker is sure needed for best results.
Cheers!

Thanks in advance for this. I am going to give it a try as I have the TM Warthog HOTAS. I also have the Crosswinds pedals too though so hopefully I can understand how to enable them once I start setting this up.
Oh, one more question. I do not have TrackIR but I have my own homemade head tracker and use OpenTrack software so will that work the same?
Thanks

I have the TM Warthog HOTAS and a shiny new AH-64D I need to fly. This thread looks interesting but I have a few questions. I need to buy an Xbox controller and prefer a wired one so is there a certain model I need like an Xbox 360? I see a bunch of aftermarket controllers on ebay and I assume that a Sony controller would be best? And on the keyboard binding software which one is the best so I don't have to fiddle around with all three of these I found. XPadder or JoyToKey or Antimicro?
Thanks
edit: I guess after some more research I could use a PS3 or and XBox controller but I just want to but a quality controller and preferably wired. Still want opinions on XPadder and JoyToKey as I never used either one.
edit #2: I found this and it works great for the TM Warthog HOTAS with or without pedals.

I just thought I would mention for the latest beta version available it shows up as 2.5.5.41692 but is supposed to be 2.5.5.41962.

Lastly I was going to purchase the new Super Carrier and I own a F18... Does the
extra come off of the price after I hit the purchase button ? it was $34.99 without the F18.
I just stopped and decided to come here and ask.
Happy New Year and Clear Skies
Mike
I can answer this one. The extra discount for already owning the FA/18 will come off after you are logged in to the order form so it can verify you really own it. Total should end up just less than $25. And in my case I had some ED Miles from buying the JF-17T so my Super Carrier only cost me $17 plus come change.

you can see s1/s2 in the first screenshot, mms (master mode switch?) is T1 (forward/centre/backward for a/a, nav, a/g modes respectively)
axis setup here (t6 antenna elevation is also used to zoom in/out the tgp):

Thanks for the image and also now I know why I couldn't find some of the stuff. It was in the AXIS Commands. :music_whistling: I was in the AXIS tune for the curves but forgot about this area to look. I know that T6 slider worked on a few other jets but I didn't know where to enable it.
I appreciate the help,

Thanks guys for the info and screenshots. I was mainly having trouble finding all the sensors when I did a search. S1 and S2 sensors, the MMS section, and the T-6 Axis Antenna Elevation. I am using my WH in standard out of the box mode as I never used the Target software yet.
Thanks,

Hi, I took the plunge and bought the JF-17 yesterday and today I was setting up my HOTAS according to page 10 of the Chucks JF-17 manual. Are all of those settings currently applicable and able to be set? I am having trouble figuring out some of them as they do not show up when I do a search. If they are all supposed to be able to be set up, I will reply with a short list of the ones I need help with.
Thanks,
DB

Press and hold the NWS/MSL Step switch/button for a bit and it should change weapons. If not, then probably WIP.
Thanks razo+r. That helps. I guess I was doing a short press.
The NWS/MSL STEP button on the stick will switch between different stations of the same A2A missile type with short press and it will change between different A2A missile types on long press. You should be able to switch which MFD is SOI with DMS Aft short and make the HUD SOI with DMS Forward short.
All of these functions are currently working in the sim, at least in the latest Open Beta release.
Thanks Harker. I think the "long press" is what was messing us up. I appreciate it.

Me and the 2 guys I fly with seem to be having problems again switching between the AIM120 and the AIM9. It seems that in the past it worked some of the time so we thought we knew how to switch them, but today we could not get them to switch. What exactly is the correct procedure to switch the weapons? Also, it seemed like we could not get the SOI to switch either. We have Warthogs and set them up like the early access manual.
Thanks,

Thanks. It seems to me I asked this same question once before and was told missions made in the stable version would not run in the beta version. This is great news that it can as some missions take a long time to make and we all started out using the stable version then switched to the beta.

Can I use a mission I created in the stable version and open and re-save it in the beta versions mission editor and run it with the beta version?? Just wanting to run a mission I created in the stable version.
Thanks

You are correct. It doesn't have to run no.
I love this prog, but just so you know, it's basically just an automatic unzipper/file copier, nothing else.

Ok, so I was thinking correct. And yes, I know how OVGME works but it is still a very nice utility for DCS.
Thanks!

Question: I have used OVGME for a while but only with the saved games folder. I open OVGME and select my mods and enable them, then I exit OVGME and the mods work fine. Now I am going to start to use some mods in the main beta game folder. After I enable them, can I still exit OVGME and they will work fine or do I have to leave OVGME running? I think I can exit and it will work, but I want to be sure if the normal way of using OVGME is selecting mods, activating mods, and exiting OGME.
Thanks

No, right now there is no way to edit the length of the tracks.
Ok, I think it would be a nice option in the future. I will put it on the wish list.
Thanks,
Dave

question on track file
Can a track file be made smaller with video editing software or some other way? The reason I ask is when we fly for 3-4 hours straight, that makes a large track file.
Thanks,
DB

I haven’t flown the A-10 in years, so I haven’t yet tinkered with its 6dof values, I would be surprised of its 6dof values cant be tuned a bit.
Its saved on saved games/dcs/config/view/snapviews.lua
Ok, thanks. I was experiencing some weird stuff and in the end I think it was just a bad battery in my TrackIR. Mine runs on 2 AA rechargeable batteries and one was down to 0.85V while the other was at 1.24 like it is supposed to be. I am new to TrackIR as far as using it and was curious if in the adjustment screen under TrackIR if all the fields are supposed to be blank? The TrackIR works fine. Also, can you assign the Num5 key to the same key that centers the TrackIR using OpenTrack? I tried it but was unsure if it was really working.
Thanks,
Dave

Ok, thanks guys.

Let me know, and if you think you were doing it right, upload a track and I can check it out, thanks.
I got it working by moving the "dogfight" switch to a different position. I guess we just forgot about the "dogfight" switch.
Thanks,
Dave
Update DCS release version say I don't have enough space
in Installation Problems

Update: I installed a new Samsung 2TB SSD and to my surprise. It replaced a 1TB Samsung 850 Pro that had both the beta and the release version on it. No wonder I thought it was fast enough.
The 6TB gaming drive will be great for backups so it's all good.
