  1. Deadman,

on the odd chance you still need this converted I have the software that turns images into indexable pdf files. It is Abbey Fine Reader 11. It is expensive but I will convert the docs for you if email them to me. It takes alot of time to convert but It isnt hands on. Just give it the files and it goes.

  2. Hello,

I recently acquired an entire engineers station from a 727. Every panel, every knob, every switch, every instrument.

Three of the instruments are glass. The plates on the back say they were made by Si Aerospace in Feb of 99. The plane they came out of was parked at the salvage yard a year ago and is being dismantled. The instruments normally would have been tested and tagged and showing a trace of no incident. I am assuming they are functional. My question is can they be used on a sim and if so how do I test them to check to see if they are ok other than plugging the umbilical into another 727.

There are 18 pins on the bottom in a 2,4,5,4,3 stacked configuration.

Any help would be greatly apreciated and no I don't have Building simulated aircraft instrumentation. Mike I hope you read this one.

  3. I actually spoke to Mike about it and he said no more print runs. There is too much in the workings right now with other projects and he wants to change alot of info in the book anyway. I did ask him for a PDF of the book and offered to pay him but he does not have one

  4. I am looking for a copy of "Building Simulated Aircraft Instrumentation".

I will pay $150 for an actual copy of the book

Send me a PM if you have a copy to sell.

  5. Hi,

I used to have the opencockpit cards. Used them for interfacing with MFS X and this worked quite well because of FSUIPC. But with A-10 I am interfacing now the are a bit "complicated". So, now I just use opencockpit cards for outputs and 7-segment, for input I use the Arcaze card from simplesolutions which behave like normal joystick buttons. So I can simply config the hole stuff in A-10.

So more flexibility with oc cards, but much more simple bitch some kind of joystick-adapter.

    Your decission....

When you say outputs and 7 segments, and inputs what do you mean. I am new to this and I don't fully understand. Do you mean the inputs are more like single momentary joystick button pushes and the others are for switches that stay on or what? I am lost.

  6. Backlighting

When I was young there were these "stencils" that came in different sizes 3mm, 5mm, 7mm etc. and they were some type of rubber with an adhesive back. They looked just like the transfer stencils above. What I was thinking is painting a piece of clear acrylic white then applying the letters then painting the panel black. Once dry remove the letters and then clear coat the whole thing. Does anyone know where to get the rubber letters or what they are called even?

  7. White text

There are some label makers that have white text as their output on transparent tape. Check online or at office max/depot. If that doesn't work you can buy stencil paper that is white and sticky on one side. You print the black portion on the un-sticky side and blammo you are good. Finally there are sticky letters. You can get them in various sizes and like rub on stencils they come in a pack and you peel the letter or number off and stick it on your panel.

    Hope this works.

    This one is $28 http://www.amazon.com/Brother-Personal-Labeler-Machine-White/dp/B002M7W9GW

  8. Frames

So the Frames are basically how fast the screen changes and refreshes with new info? I mean the faster the frame rate the smoother the movements look on screen?

Also does the size of the monitor matter? There are these new 62" 180 degree panoramic monitors that are huge. Lets say I want to use 1 of them for the main view, 1 20" flatscreen monitor for the instruments on the front panel and 3 3" VGA or LCD screens. Thats 5 total screens. Do the cards see it that way or do they see it as this much power needed for the huge monitor, less power needed for the 20" flatscreen etc..

  9. metalnwood,

Thanks for the information. I meant it when I said I was a layman as far as what works best for cockpit simulators. I am building a pit just like Gadrocks. I plan on having 1 large monitor for the view, 1 monitor for the gauges on the front panel, several smaller lcds for cdu, and the like.

I read somewhere that Blackshark was dependant on the actual computer cpu and not video cards so it didn't matter what type of card you used but for A10 eveyone is talking about multiple monitors being supported by the graphics cards. It gets confusing.

My old desktop is not good enough to run the cockpit and since I just shelled out $3000 for a laser to make panels I figure I should have a dedicated pc for this thing. The ultimate goal is to fly in a squadron online.

Absolute realism is the thing I am most after. I have wanted to build a cockpit simulator for years now (17 to be exact) and I am finally financially able to give it my all and do it right from the start. That doesn't mean I want to throw money away either. I want a rig that will allow me to run several monitors (maybe up to 10) and will allow the game to have a great frame refresh rate (is this the correct term?) Upgradeability is also a must so I can continue to use A10 2 and 3 and 4 when they are released. Basically I need a book that tells me what to build to do speciffic things.

  10. System Requirements

Gadroc and Deadman could you post your ideal operating platforms as far a s computer, graphics cards, etc. I am a layman and have no idea what to get for my cockpit simulator that I am building

  11. Does anyone have a link for the company that produces and sells the knobs, switches and buttons used in the A10. I thought I saw honeywell did, but I cant find that page now.

Also I know I saw a list of the knobs and switches by actual part number. Can someone point me to this link as well?

    Thanks

  13. Side view

I mean actual side mounted monitors that show the view from the sides while you are flying. You know you turn your head to the left and can see your buddy flying next to you. What track IR does on your center screen. I am wanting to make a pit like BadCRCs but i would like a full enclosed pit for absolute realism. This may not even be possible do the the amount of memory required but I am all for putting in a separate graphics card or whatever I have to do to make this work.
