  1. Thanks for the reply. I ended up ordering the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9, with the notion of upgrading the GPU later if necessary. Hopefully, I can hold off on a CPU for a while. I just upgraded my HOTAS too, so I'm excited to get this bad boy hooked up. Now, I just need to remember how to fly the damn plane.
  2. Hi all. I'm planning to upgrade to a 49" ultra-wide monitor. But I'm not sure if I hav the rig to support it. Can any of you tech experts out there give me some feedback on whether DCS will run well? Also, what would be the best specs for such a monitor? Here are my computer specs. Thanks in advance for any help. Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700 CPU @ 2.90GHz 2.90 GHz Installed RAM 32.0 GB (31.9 GB usable) System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor Graphics Card PowerColor Radeon RX 5700 XT 8GB GDDR6 Graphics Card
  3. No, I use it for other gaming and work. Space isn't a huge issue. It's a standard size non-master bedroom.
  4. My office desk isn't working very well for DCS right now for a variety of reasons. Any recommendations for a reasonably priced desk/table option? Any advice for things to look for? My set up isn't too crazy. One 31.5" monitor, HOTAS, keyboard, speakers, rudder pedals. Much appreciated.
  5. Fiddling with the axis settings did the trick. Thanks for your help.
  6. Thanks, but I'm familiar with all that. What I'm trying to convey is that I can't center the ball using trim. Full left trim gets it about half way to the center. Right trim just makes it worse.
  7. I can't figure this out. At every stage of flight and at any speed or altitude, I'm experiencing significant side slippage that even full (10%?) left rudder trim won't correct. I know the engine power pulls the aircraft a bit to the side, but I thought speed would correct most of that so that only a little trim would be necessary. But I put the rudder trim full left and the trim bubble won't center. I figure I'm missing something obvious, but I can't figure out what. Any advice would be appreciated.
  8. Thanks, so is the best way to do that by using the quick mission function?
  9. I'm fairly new to this module and DCS. I've got a good feel for the basics of flight and want to build some combat experience without getting my ass kicked too badly. What's the best way to start? Server? User Missions? Campaigns? etc.
  10. Thanks guys. I tried both and it did what I wanted. Much appreciated.
  11. I'm new to the mission editor. I'm trying to create a simple mission with lots of enemy aircraft in a specific area to practice using the radar. I set their mission type to "nothing" and create two waypoints for each unit expecting them to simply fly back and forth between the two waypoints...at least that's what I want. But when I start the mission, all enemy aircraft immediately RTB. Is there any way to just get them to hang around up in the sky?
  12. I've owned this module for a few months and have started to feel comfortable with basic flight mechanics. I've decided the next step in my education is to tackle the radar. The problem is, I'm not sure how to go about it. The radar development has gone through several updates and it seems most information/videos are dated and don't include every function. Chuck's Guide may be an exception to this. It's enormously helpful, but hardly a tutorial. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to learn this topic without poking around a bunch of fractured sources from different dates/points of development?
  13. Figured this out for anyone having the same problem. Although it worked fine with the F/A-18 module, a USB splitter doesn't seem to work with this module. The Throttle ends up getting transposed onto the stick and visa versa. Plugging the USB cables directly into the computer ports instead of the splitter solved the problem.
  14. I've noticed in several videos that when fiddling with knobs and switches, one should be able to freeze the camera for a sec to accomplish the task. Is there a particular keyboard command that does this? Or are they just active pausing. I can't seem to hold my head steady enough to, for example, set the TACAN frequency.
  15. My HOTAS bindings (Thrustmaster T16000) keep changing. I'll reset everything to my liking. Save the profile, etc. Then when I come back in to change controls, everything is screwed up. More often than not, it saves my throttle bindings to my Joystick, so, for example, my Trim disappears and I have 2 TMS settings, one on each device. I'm tearing my hair out. User error? Or broader issue? Any help would be much appreciated.
  16. I've been playing DCS solo for about 2 months now and have about 75 hours into it. Most with the FA-18, some with the P-51. I'd like to try multiplayer but I'm mildly intimidated by it. So, to alleviate that, I have some questions: 1. When you get on the server for the first time, do you just do your own thing and ease in to group activities over time, or immediately engage with a group? 2. How do you Voice Communicate with others on the server? What's SRS? Is it necessary? 3. Are people who are already on the server already doing something together as a group? Will I be intruding if I join the server? 4. Is my low skill level an issue? Will I be "in the way"? 5. What's the difference between a normal and an open beta server? How do I know which is which? Do I care?
  17. I recently chose the P-51 as my first warbird. I've got a pretty good feel for the aircraft now, but man, the only thing I can hit consistently with those 500 pounders is my own plane. :( It's going to take a while to gain some proficiency I can tell. No questions, just venting. But if you have any advice, it wouldn't go to waste.
  18. I just created a practice mission with a single wingman. I can communicate with the wingman pre-takeoff, and he communicates with me pre-takeoff and while airborne. But while airborne, I can't communicate with him. The PTT button works on the ground, but not in the air. I imagine I'm doing something wrong, since I'm pretty new at this. Anyone have some insight?
  19. The parking brake may be it. It's worked so far. Thanks.
  20. Since the recent patch, when I start from a cold start, the INS is aligning properly maybe 50% of the time. The other 50%, I start the engine(s), turn on the DDIs, switch to GND, press STD HDG on the HSI and nothing happens. No count-down timer, no qual count-down. Just a 0 timer and "NO ATT" blinking on the qual indicator. If I turn off the INS and turn it back to GND, the STD HDG option on the DDI disappears and still nothing happens. If I quit and restart the mission, it usually is fine. It feels like a bug, but given that I'm pretty new at this, I'm willing to consider user error. Anyone else having this problem? Any feel for what I may be doing wrong
  21. Whoops, should have mentioned nav. I've learned that pretty well too.
  22. I'm just starting to learn the FA-18 as a newcomer to flight sims. I've learned (i) taxi, take-off, straight-in landings, (ii) dumb bombs (CCIP) and rockets, and (iii) carrier take-offs. I've started on JDAMs and Radar. I only have about 3 hours a week to play and practice, so I have a longer than some ramp-up. Two questions: 1. What should I target first for learning? New weapons systems? ECM? Other? 2. At what point can I try multiplayer with reasonable capability? Do you need to learn every function first? Or can you dive in with only partial knowledge?
  23. When searching in RWS mode, why would you ever choose not to enable LTWS? The LTWS information is more granular and helpful. Is there some advantage to running RWS without LTWS enabled that escapes me?
  24. I'm in the process of learning the Hornet. How does one create a mission where the enemy planes don't shoot at you. I want to practice the basics of radar and A2A weapons and don't want a hot enemy until I get a little more proficient. Would appreciate any advice.
