  1. correct me if I am wrong but weren't there A10's in the last Terminator film too.

Aye, special A10s with the Thrust-to-weight ratio of an F-15 if memory serves right. I think I remember mid-film having to bite my tongue wanting to tell the wife there was no way those planes could manouvre like that in real life. Must supress the inner-nerd!

  2. Win8 does have a couple of niggles for me, around the context switching between Metro and desktop. But in ALL other regards win8 is better than win7. And it cost me £25???? Best MS purchase EVER.

The Chicken Littles can all go and keep their heads buried in the sand for all I care.

  3. "I'm not really a nerd, so I'll have to ask to get a little wiser:"

BOS, I think the implication from Leafer was that what you were essentially saying was:

"Hello Nerds, I need your help.

Can someone make my life easy 'cos I am unwilling to scan even just the FIRST page of the 'Home Cockpits' section" (which is where you'd get most of your answers off the bat.)

Go there and prepare to be confused, and don't expect any magic switches. It's all file-editing and a LOT of time to get all the type of stuff you're asking for, but it is possible.

Oh, and pay attention to anything PeterP says, he's Mr. Output.

  4. I've also had a nightmare experience trying to upgrade from 7 to 8!!!

Have an Acer Inspire 4820TG... it's a quality laptop with an i5 running 64bit W7.

However the upgrade fails EVERY single time at 68% completion with not a single clue as to why....

It does mention during the initial Upgrade Assistant that it seems the CPU/BIOS on my lappie might not support NX and thus the install may fail. But I have no indication if that WAS the reason it failed. I also have multiple partitions, 1 for temp/outlook/programs/documents.... have no idea if that's the reason. I am pissed and have just given up... thankfully I didn't pay anything 'cos I'm a Technet subscriber.

  5.

I have no reason to believe Betteridge's Law doesn't apply here...

It's been interesting times for Linux for the past 10 years, and sweet FA has happened, as Winz says.

My feelings are that something can only compete in this day and age with BIG money and a single focus behind it. Sony/Microsoft/Apple. The open-source / designed by committee nature of Linux hobbles it from competing against the big boys, IMHO.

  6. Great to hear Scorpi.

Yeah Viper, £25? It seems oddly cheap for Microsoft! Suspiciously so....

Must be a trap. Run away! ;-)

I really like the look of multiple Start Bars, 1 per monitor, and the reported noticeable increase in various normal desktop use-cases.

For £25 seems like an easy choice.

I'm sure it won't take long to learn to ignore/bypass/euthanize Metro....

  7. Hi ED/Testers,

(oh and forummers, stow any all subjective opinion on the topic-matter!!!)

Is DCS:World compatible with Win8 at this stage? I can see no official threads/news on the matter.

If not, is there any scheduled date for compatibility testing/ firmer position?

I'm interested in availaling of MS's 40USD upgrade from 7 at this introductory price; I believe that offer ends in January?

If not, I'll stick with Win7, no harm done.

  8. Disagree. OCíng is still the way to get your FPS in ED´s products up, however it will pour with posts afterwards telling you that graphics has gain weight in the equation. Went from 3.6 to 4.4 Ghz, believe me: fps boost you can count on.

The question is what`s next for DCS World: OC to 5 Ghz? Will the next version of DCS require you to oc your CPU?

Yeah I agree his fps will go up, but enough to justify the cost? I wouldn't bother personally.

  9. Any videos of helicopters blowing up rebels?

Apparently the rebels now have man-portable SAMs.

    Clearly nobody is supplying them.

Would you not see contrail from the SAM? When the camera is initially zoomed out, you can see alot of sky, and nothing like a plume of smoke leading towards the original position of the heli. I don't think the video's conclusive proof one way or another...
