i looked for this mission and miz and do not have it. i have all the maps and the F-16.

The file name is actually : "F-16C - Persian Gulf - Turn Off the Lights.miz"

    The path on my PC is : "C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\aircraft\F-16C\Missions\Single"

And yes, we found a way to correct th problem. Which reminds of the british TV show "The IT crowd" and it's famous quote : "Have you tried to turn it off and on again ?"

hello. please post more info. mission, track, DCS.LOG. more clues can be derived from more information. this does not seem to be a global issue or the forums would be blowing up. also posting in a specific AC forum can help things.

The mission is "Turn off the light" which is provided when you have the F-16C module and the persian gulf map.

I tried mdmasters trick and it works : "I toggle the GPS time field to "off", then suddenly the data link starts working, the sync field says "syncing" (or something like that) for a moment, and then it changes to a status of "fine".  I can then turn the GPS time field back to "on" and the data link seems to work."

  3. It's not really a bug. I changed my PC monitor. Same resolution (4K). I used to shut down (power off) the monitor when flying in VR, for 2 purposes :

    1. Less problem of "picture drifting" in VR

    2. Reduce electricity consumption

No problem with my old monitor. With the new one, if I shut it down, the mouse cursor field gets limited to a small rectangle part of the field of view in the upper left corner. When I power the monitor on, everything is back to normal.

    OK Thanks.

I really don't understand the ergonomics of the fighter cockpits, be it F/A-18, F-16, F-15, ... . Did Boeing, Lookheed, ... engineers really study the ergonomics like "OK we must design a cockpit where everything seems natural, efficient in combat, easy to learn and remember". Or do they like I do in DCS with my gear : "OK I have this HOTAS with these switches, how can I map the most convenient way the functions I need".

(The same with MFDs : look the Hornet, where the alert messages override the bottom of the page of the LEFT MFD, even if it masks valuable informations. Couldn't they do better ? Was it coded by an intern ? Such bad design for a fighter that is worth millions dollars and goes to war. Can't understand.)

  5. I just began the process to try to learn and understand the whole stuff, but from where I stand, castle switch depress is only necessary to make HUD in control ? (press castel switch depress and then castle switch up). Idon't really understand why.

Problem is : many of us probably don't have HOTAS with many four ways + depress switches.

Could we have an option to make castle switch depress to make HUD in control not necessary (only castle switch UP) ?

  6. Hello,

I made 3 OCA strikes. Myself has SEAD escort.

    1. SIRRI AFB

Debrief : No AFB got any damages ! Bombs killed many AK-74 and that's all. I remember I saw several buildings (military hangars) burning. No damage to the runway or valuable asset.

    2. PLayed the mission again.

That was good ! Runway destroyed. Radar sam destroyed. I even had the opportuniy to destroy 2 MIGs standing on a parking with my GBUs. Good job !

    2. BANDAR ABBAS

Same as mission 1. Bombs killed many AK-74 and that's all. No significant damages to the AFB.

P.S. And Thanks for the update of the kneeboard. Much appreciated.

Unfortunately I can't do anything about wingman behavior.

Oh yes I know. I replayed the same mission. Didn't encounter the same bandits but the wingman engaged. He even saved my a*s when a bandit managed to get behind me. The problem is AI behavior is really "unpredictable".

It would be good to have at least the overview Maps in the Kneeboard where the different CAP, CAS, SEAD areas are located and their names.

I concur. We really need this. And maybe the channel frequencies chart.

Other issue, but this is DCS not the campaign I guess : the wingman refuses to "engage my target" despite repeated orders and repeated acknowledgements. From BVR to merge.

  9. "Engage my target" doesn't work how I would like it to work, I mean to sort targets, i.e. Tell the wingman to engage bandit 2 while I engage bandit 1.

For exemple, in the Hornet : I have a bandit designated on the rader as primary and a second one as secondary target. I command “engage my target”. He acknowledges. On the SA page, with DL, I see the wingman engages my primary target. Fine, then I switch (undesignate button) my primary and secondary target designation so I can engage the other bandit. THEN, unfortunatly, my wingman changes his target too ! He constantly engages your primary target wathever you designate. So what's the point ?

So you can think you'll use “engage bandits” command, let your wingman choose his target, and then choose another one for yourself (if you're flying a bird that has DL). But on the “Hornet 1989 Alert 5” mission, for exemple, you have to destroy an attack package of 4 SU24 escorted by 2 MIG29. The idiot wingman chooses to engage a SU24. So you have to deal alone with the 2 aggressive MIG29.

I'm getting tired with solo missions and dealing with AI (AI stands for Artificial Idiocy, right ?), I'm willing to try to fly with humans so you can cooperate efficiently : “you engage the trail bandit and I engage the lead, roger, let's go”.

  10. Same problem with my TM Warthog. Set a dead zone to 20 on the TDC axis, and it becomes doable to designe a box (almost as easy as AA refuel, requires as much calm). 20% dead zone seems to make the TDC axis usable for other purposes. I will try to adjust the best value. I think Eagle Dynamics should address  this issue.

  11. I have a strange behavior in mission 04. When I lock a boat on my radar, the target coordinates are assigned to the current waypoint (Wall socket for instance). It means the WP  coordinates become the coordinates of the target at the moment it has been locked on the radar.

If I use F10 map view after the WP coordinates have been changed by the lock, the initial WP coordinates luckily appear on this view, so I can read them, and set them back again in the HSI data page using UFC to restore initial coordinates ... until next lock.

Is this a normal behavior ? Did I set something on a system - a feature I don't even know it exists ? (happened twice as I played the mission twice).

Or is this a problem specific to this mission ?

  12. Had the same issue on first time. Circled before WP to let him rejoin ASAP, because I know stupid AI wingmen run full AB to rejoin until they're settled, and I wanted him to spare fuel. That does'nt work in this mission and make him indeed run east full AB endlessly.

Then I went to WP 1 straight ahead, slowly, and it went OK.

    SPOILER !!!!

The boat is a yacht and said to be stranded so the wind is no factor.

What I did is estimate an almost direct trajectory from the port of departure to Haïfa, assumed a speed of 20kts between 16h30 (hour of depart) and 20h (time Claire said the boat stopped).

That way I determined a rough point and then search west from that point.

I picked it up quite easily with the radar in SEA mode and the FLIR.

I agree that from there you just turn around above the boat and enjoy the fantastic voicings but that is something very unusual in DCS 🙂

Thanks! That's smart. English is not my native language, I hadn't understand the boat was stranded.

I found it interesting by being unusual.

And I can confirm you can pick the boat on the radar and use the FLIR.

But you have first to analyse the trajectory, calculate the time the boat traveled and assume a speed ; then take into account the drift under the storm.

Yes I remembered the BRC for carrier recovery was 211, so I thought the wind was blowing from that direction, right? So the boat must have been drifting north northeast. But of the hell can I estimate a distance?

  15. I think I used the preset channel on PRI. Worked fine.

By the way, the mission is extremly boaring. Silly Claire ! How can I find you, if you can't  use a GPS ? My radar won't catch your nutshell, only the big boats. So after scaning the big big  sea with my own eyes for a very long time, I just got tired of this and ended it all. I'll skip the mission. Sorry Claire.

I think you should lock your mouse cursor to the DCS window...   and maybe set the headset to not go to sleep.

Thanks for your help. I already set my headset to never go to sleep.

How do you lock the mouse to DCS window? DCS uses the whole screen, it renders the right eye image on the screen. The only way to put the mouse pointer out of DCS would be Alt-tab.

Try clearing and resetting the WMR environment and disable the headset sleep options. I think you can rebind the flashlight as well, to make sure it's not bound to something DCS uses.

I've never had any of the issues you describe though, I doubt it's specific to OXR 🙂

Thanks for your answer. I'll investigate the flashlight bind stuff.

I periodically do a WMR clear environment.

I have set the "never sleep" headset option and yet I got once this annoying panel : "do you really want to shut down the headset?"

  18. Thank you very much for sharing all this. OpenXR gave me a nice performance enhancement.

A slight minor negative effect, compared to steamVR, for me : slowly but surely, the view goes up, and I have to recenter from time to time  (I have a HOTAS button for this)

Other issue : sometimes WMR interferes : the WMR menu appears in the middle of a flight. Or a message : "do you really want to shut down your headset ?" Or the flashlight.

In the best case, I can pause DCS, use my HP G2 controller and make this stuff desappear and resume DCS. Sometimes I can't recover.

rayray is another user that comes to the forums to help and provide helpful advice. my 2 bits is that some mission creators, for good reason, make it so their missions cannot be modified. and i think make it so overrides do not work. at least that is my experience. but i do know these settings you mention do work in many missions. including my own. have you reached out to the campaign designer to ask?

Yes I did in the dedicated thread.

Set it and forget it. No need to save anything.

    HI rayrayblues,

Are you ED staff member and is this an official answer?

I'm not sure you understood the point. If my understanding is correct, checking this option should override the options set by a mission designer by my own options. This is not the case in Cerberus North campaign.
