Cool map, however, dropping lower in altitude as in landing, frame rates are taking a beating.
Hopefully it’s just my rig, but my older rig does well on other maps so I dunno.
Update, now all of the maps I have are producing low frame rates. Perhaps the little update that was let out.
Yeb. Tried other maps, smooth. Lots of stuttering and lags on this one. Not playable for me. Think I will wait for patches.

Now that is interesting.

4k plus 1k… 5000€. Even though I could do it, I cannot justify it even for development and such purposes I use my kit for. With 4090, I am CPU limited, but I am thinking even my setup wont be enough.

MT binary is still required but is now the default
Thanks. Binary is there and didn't touch it . I reinstalled the whole show and seems that problems solved.

As I’m well versed in silly questions, I have to ask as I’m facing some issues with Reverb G2 and the 2.9.
Is MT part of this update and is the old bin MT that was used to run MT now surplus to requirements and could the be fully deleted?
I am thinking there might be some interference that affects performance.

I would recommend going through Thuds rig tuning. Rig tuning comes first.
I have done that and also used speed of the heat settings. Combo has worked exceedingly well.

Well. I changed to a 4090. FPS, jumped up, jittering has reduced considerably and disappeared altogether on certain maps. Not given multiplayer a go yet. MT with 4090 improves performance considerably. So from 63-68 I'm now getting up to 80-90fps on the same mission.

Here are a few links
This is great. I used these settings and left it at that. Still working fine.
Also have a look at items behind this link

My suggestion is: George/Petrovich AI should become an API to be used by all ED and 3rd party helicopters like other parts of development kit. Huey, Mi-8, Gazelle, further Kiowa, Bolkov-105 and others. It already works really good for Mi-24 and AH-64.
Unified co-pilot AI = need to remember only one logic to operate all helicopters (with small modifications to accomodate needs of specific type like differences between Petrovich and George).
Win - win for all ED, 3rd parties and players.
Contrary - every developer forced to use their own different AI logic, and make it from scratch, different for every developer and every helicopter (and player forced to remember all the different logics co-pilot AI) would be just a bad choice. Significanly increasing all helicopters development time, making players uncomfortable to operate different helicopters and DCS feeling less unified, loose cluster of modules.
cheers
I second that motion.

Like, even though - not 100% sure - pre 1991 there should not have been any patches at all on the flight suits.
Yes. Correct. Only the Shevretka, if even that, had rank insignia shoulder boards, perhaps wings and soviet coat of arms or alternatively a wings emblem on left arm. Flight suits usually had nothing, but some wore the Telnyashka under it, giving a distinct look.
However I do agree. I must admit that the russian flag offends my sensitivities and I do not like seeing it.

Tried the Caucasus map Mirage F1 Instant Action take off. 73-80 constant. No jittering or issues.

Just been away for 7 weeks working, updated and booted up open Beta, it's an absolute mess. Hats off for the improvements in the modules but the game is absolutely borked for VR.
Gonna put the HOTAS away and just play some 2D games as DCS in its current state for VR is not playable. Hopefully by the time the CH46 gets released ED have improved the engine. Every update ruins performance unfortunately.
After updating to 2.8, stutters are quite bad in VR. Not unplayable, BUT certainly not as much fun as it was before. Im thinking about rolling back to 2.7.

I can no longer hide behind the graces of newbie status, since I have been playing DCS for 3 (maybe 4) years. I've been playing flight sims since my family got their first desktop 486 PC in the early nineties; think I was about 13. Flight Sims have come such a long way, improving upon every single aspect of the genre. They've also gained a wider player base. But for some reason 2 things regarding my relationship to them have stayed the same:
1) No matter how complex and advanced and realistic they get, I still found myself obsessing over making it MORE complex, advanced and realistic for the sake of immersion. I used to fantasize about what sims would be like in the future when I was an adult.
2)For some reason, despite everything I wanted and how awesome it is that these sims met my expectations and even surpassed them, I still suck. Maybe I did better when I was a teen because i had better reflexes but also the sims back them werent nearly as complex. I loved MSFS, that strike eagle game, (the one that's like an pilot mercenary version of wing commander) Falcon 3.0 was my favorite but it was hard one even then.I spent more time with that, I got that box with the add-ons and all this other stuff that sadly does not come with any games these days. and I even printed out binders full of technical data and schematics for every single piece of hardware and military vehicle I could find in the game. I was much better at Fleet Defender! cannot get good at them, especially my favorite, DCS. Its incredible frustrating and what's more, it doesn't seem like anyone really struggles in the same way. Ive watched so called noobs fly their first missioned and to my amazement most if not all of them catch on pretty fast, making it look easy.
What am I doing wrong? Here's a typical scenario. I fired up a mission on Liberation, jumped into a harrier strike group, and couldnt even get in the air. First, I missed something written very tiny on the chklist and the engine crapped out and rather than waste even more time trying to figure out what happened I stated over. Waited 14 mins for my flight's actual start time again, this time I said F it, auto start! Once I was all set I decided to make tgt pts for my JDAMs, I did that right even if it took about 30 minutes to figure it out AGAIN, I was pleased because I think i executed it perfectly albeit slowly. I decided to do a STO and rotated my nozzles/H20 chk etc, then as i began to throttle forward the jet just loses power! Why? There's just too many variables to go over so I just restart again, screw the tgt pts let's just take off i think I had already spent 2 HOURS prepping this and I just wanted to get going! I got about 20 fit in the air and then I went down in the water.
This is a reoccurring thing. I have had countless sessions like that one. Every day over and over again. I must be a masochist. I do learn a little each time but isn't there some ways of making it easier? I wish I had a friend who liked flight sims, but all my friends are boring artist types and were raised by pseudo bohemian boomers to see all "video games" as mindless entertainment and "mainstream trash consumer culture."
I think its these antidepressants im on. They have compromised my short-term memory i think, I cannot memorize anything unless its been repeated a million times. I think what I want to raise some cash so I can get a better controller set up. I need to rely more on muscle memory in line with a good HOTAS setup. The one I got now is so-so, its CH products 568 stick and the pro throttle. I don't really like how they feel.
Look. I am a real world pilot. Military, civilian, jets and helicopters. With DCS I have days and weeks like that. Over 17000 hours and counting, I figured that DCS should just be a breeze to handle, but it is not. Like any new aircraft type or a system you need time to learn its intricacies, especially as you treat it like a real world mission. Complexity can be astounding.
Think about it this way. Real world combat pilot flying an AV8 likely has 4 years in academy studying general military stuff, or NROTC, OCS etc. These follow up Naval Flight School. NFS is split in distinct modules. Basically Aviation Pre-flight indoctrination, primary flight training, intermediate flight training and advanced flight training. After primary, pilots are split to the available platforms. This is followed by more training in assigned squadron. Air Forces around the world are not much different. You are doing yourself what people study for years under supervision. The learning never ends, checks and training, requalification for various weapons, procedures, simulator for flight, instrument, missions etc.
DCS is hugely rewarding but it is not easy and can be as frustrating as it is rewarding. There a multitude of reasons for this, many software or simulation mechanics related.
Preparation is half the job or more. Repetition is mother of all learning. But here is the thing. Fly with a friend online. If not an instructor, someone else for input. But more than anything. I doubt you suck. It is just an immense amount of info to cram and handle. Keep at it and don't give up. Let me know if you need a hand.

Hi everyone,
I am putting together a PLAN vs USN themed pvp server and am looking for some audio files to add immersion during different events. Western radio chatter is easy to find, but I am struggling with finding any audio for the Chinese side. Does anyone know of any resources, recordings, videos or ever information or Chinese radio procedures?
Thanks!
I have some Mandarin ATIS recorded and that's it. Commercial ATC wont work as there are so many foreign carriers flying around that they spoil the atmosphere. Problem with any recordings are that one trying to bring a scanner into PRC is likely going to run into an issue. Anyone trying to record AF traffic and found out is going to find being slapped with an espionage charge. Governments from neighboring countries likely have lots of recordings for intel analysis, but these are probably classified. Sorry for not being able to help.

I would wait and see what 2023 brings in DCS optimization since you can't really enjoy any Dollar of your expense if you opt to do so.
If multi-threading frees up enough CPU that you will find yourself GPU-bottlenecked you could then upgrade, likely for a lower price.
If that won't really happen, hang on another year or opt for a CPU upgrade to fully utilize your 3090, once such CPU's are available.
I personally doubt that we will ever see a CPU who's single-core performance is powerful enough to lift all the heavy weight + VR,
that's why ED is really pushing the Multi-Threading feature, and Vulkan. Both address performance issues. Until that has been solved
and delivered, you can't really make use of all the cores modern CPUs have and as such GPUs can't run at max load.
That is pretty much what I am thinking as well. Wait and see.

When I see the frame rates others are getting with a 4090 it starts feeling awfully tempting! Then I remember what the scalpers are charging and it’s suddenly much less tempting.
What settings are you using? And what frame rates are you getting? Are you flying VR? Your signature says you have an 850W psu. You could probably get by with that, but if you’re going to throw $2000+ at a 4090, you ought to also get a 1000W ATX 3.0 power supply. So, you’re easily looking at over $2,500 for this upgrade. Personally, I’d hold off. You already have a great system. If you need more frames per second, there’s probably some optimizations you can do to squeeze out a little more (possibly a lot more) performance.
VR only. Reverb G2. Frame rates are good enough. As I said, I am currently looking at consistently being CPU not GPU limited. I've tweaked settings for NVIDIA and DCS based on what I have found from other users here on the forum and testing. I'll take some screenshots later.
I will wait a while and see how it develops with multi-threading etc. Performance has dropped somewhat with stable update 2.8. I run both Beta and stable versions on my laptop and only stable on what I call the beast.
10 hours ago, EightyDuce said:What monitor are you running (resolution/refresh rate)? Honestly, unless you're going for 4K at higher-end refresh rate (90+) or are playing in VR, I'd hold off unless you have a burning desire to spend $1600+.
Don't get me wrong, it's a monster of a card, I just picked one up to finally upgrade my 1080ti, but if you're CPU-limited on a 3090 you will be even more so on a 4090.
VR only. That is what I am thinking as well.

I've actually figured out that already, but I think it is worth a discussion.
It seems that I am consistently CPU limited with DCS with good margin left on GPU. Alas I was wondering if there are any other compelling reasons to update from a 3090 to a 4090 than "I want one".
I am thinking that until DCS introduces the long waited multi-threading there really is no need for that and that I would wait and see what comes up with the Vulcan and other changes.
Any thoughts on this.
My current specs are as follows.

Ok yeah that worked for me! What's odd is that I was using simple comms
It took me a while to figure that out… but as IRL, intercom needs to be selected. Otherwise you'll be talking to yourself, unless of course your aircraft has hot mike and thats connected to ground guy plug. This has led some very embarrassing incidents with pilots talking garbage in the cockpit with ground guy listening to every word. Works that way too.
We use a simple procedure. Check switches and buttons, check mike and headset plugs connected, swap headsets (unless flying with a helmet) check CB’s. If all fails, open up and call maintenance.

Show of hands... how many here are running a 4090?
Not yet. Waiting for mine. But really what I cannot wait is that DCS introduces multicore. These are nice, but not. That is a huge performance drop in VR. I use it exclusively. Not monitor at all. Alas I will not be updating until issues are solved. One would think that multicore and VR support would be a priority. VR and AR are the present and the future with dropping prices on hardware and more available options. I like the platform a lot, but if we take a step back with new updates in performance, well not much to look forward to.

What’s the current state of play with AI wingmen? I have only just started doing some missions that include these and they don’t seem to do much. What’s the best way of getting them into action? I usually have enough on my plate flying the Helo, managing George ( as while he will attack things if directed he does not really do anything without my say so) to micro manage wingmen and pick targets etc as well……..
With Ah-64 and Hind, I keep using wingmen with great effect. I find them useful especially in rather hostile environment distracting GBADS. Engage enemy air defenses is a brilliant command.
Stuttering badly in VR but only in the Kola map in (mainly)fixed-wing aircraft.
in VR Bugs
Posted · Edited by Baltic Pirate
Any improvements with the stuttering. Incidentally I’ve got exactly the same issue. 4090, and reverb g2.
I reduced the preload to 55000 and stuttering is noticeably less. Flyable. Did some other tweaking as well… small changes in settings. Totally flyable.
