  1. Hi brettt777, if u´re still seeing an X mark on your MAVs, just check if you turned on the A/G mode and MASTER ARM switch on. It seem trivial, but u can get to MAVs via STORES page even if u don´t turn on A/G mode or MASTER ARM switch. So just check it. Another thing to check is, if u´re getting a solid target lock. Slewing your MAVs seeker to the point where your TPOD is pointing isn´t always enough. You should take in account that your target could be hidden in trees or in terrain and your MAV´s seeker just can´t get a solid lock. That is when you still get the X mark even if you think everything should be just fine. Well, sometimes it isn´t . So re-check your lock via TPOD, then slew your maverick again and voila, you can ruin someone´s day. Goliathus
  2. Hi guys, thank you all for your suggestions, it clearly declares that DCS has great community. I played DCS recently and I was able to push MIG 31 using your advice. To be clear, I picked up my fights, cause I was on a strike mission equiped with 4 mavs, so I tried to avoid the MIGs until it was necessary to defend myself. I tried to be as fast as possible before I was shot at and not to fly direct at enemy. Then I tried cranking and after one or two cranks I shot my AMRAAM at the MIG despite the fact it problably went stupid immediately and I flew to the deck. I got lucky, cause it seemed like if the MIG lost me for few seconds (I´m not sure if theAI is programmed in DCS in a way that makes it possible for the AI to get confused and loose its target) and I was able to fire another AMRAAM within 15 nm from the deck to the "chemtrailing" MIG. I was happy to survive and I scored a kill as well ... and then I screw my AG mission :-) But it was soooo much fun.
  3. Thx for your advice. I´m not sure when is the moment I can consider the enemy missile trashed after I try notching it. I still get the RWR signal as if I was in grave danger, so I´m afraid to reconnect and get closer. Even if the first missile go stupid before its able to go pitbull, there is a good chance there´s second one in the air already. Sometimes I was able to survive if I dived for the deck almost immediately and turn cold. But going cold is the exact opposite of what I should do if I wan´t to get close enough to fire my AMRAMM. So I´m a lost case in this fight and am fighting only to survive, not to score a kill and clear my way to complete my mission. This whole thing bothers me since I play a campaign, where the whole battlefield is around the Cyprus. Its sooooo small, that you simply can´t engage any ground targets if there are usually 2 - 3 MIG 31s in the air all the time. I can´t outrun them, chase them if they are winchester, I just get frustrated. I can´t even count on my F14 (AI operated) buddies, cause they get shot after a while and I simply can´t afford to buy new F14s each turn. Even my PC struggles if there are 50 jets flying all around and plenty ground units are figthing as well (its a massive CPU killer and I get low FPS instantly).
  4. Hey guys, I decided to start a new topic to get some tips from more experienced players. I like to play DCS with Liberation campaign mission generator and I fly exclusively the F/A18C. Its a great jet, but not the fastest one, so it has some clear downsides while fighting other jets BVR. Do you have any tips how to successfully fight the MIG 31 equipped with long rage missiles? I find it impossible to get close enough to fire my AMRAAM, cause I´m always defending ultrafast missiles thrown by the MIG 31 at me and I´m happy to survive. I try to respect the MAR and to find where the MAR is in specific conditions, but it is noway near my launch capability. To make it more difficult, when flying a mission, there is almost never a single MIG 31 in the air, so I get shot at from more than 1 side, thus only way to survive is to go cold before I even get shot and looooong before I can shot at the MIG 31. In some instances it makes impossible in SP (I don´t play MP at the moment) to get near my target, cause it is heavily guarded by these MIGs and I remember only few cases when I was able to kill MIG 31 - it was because I hid behind two F14 which kept the MIG defensive with their phoenixes, so I managed to get close enough to fire my AMRAAM with kill potential. So is there any possible (not suicidal) tactic to fight a MIG 31 in BVR with a F/A 18 C? I can´t count on AI buddies, they tend to get shot easily. Thx
  5. Well maybe my learning curve is not so steep in this matter, cause I fly the F/A 18C since 10/2020 I consider my self still being a noob. Orbiting nerby frontline can be tricky in a cloudy day, especially if the clouddeck is only at angels 2 - 3. Its hard to not expose myself to enemies and usually I can´t count on my AI buddies, which love kamikaze flying in to the hills or flying somewhere over the rainbow until there´s no fuel left. But I love this game, it is soooo much fun to play. Until you meet the almighty SA10 covered by few TORs. Thanks gyus for your help.
  6. Thx. I get the point, there shouldn´t be any easy way of spotting tanks and make them sitting ducks. I guess in reality I would get over radio at least some information where to start looking. After 2.7 update it is sometimes almost impossible to orbit over frontline, cause the cloud deck covers great area quite often. Since this update I wonder if there is some other way searching for enemy tanks without cheating the reality (F10 map, red smoke etc.). To be honest, its not easy to spot aircraft either in dogfight after I loose sight for a while. But I can get over that using AA radar properly (yea, only if I don´t get shot before I could find the enemy). Well it seems I just need much more practice. AI buddies are soooo all-seeing, they always report what and where they see. They just mysteriously know whether it is an air defense target or something else I´m struggling to find any targets that are non-moving, not on road or in the middle of a large grass area. But yeah, probably that is as it should be in reality as well. Using HMCS is important to me in every aspect in DCS, cause at the moment I´m not able to maintain good SA without it, especially when flying at night (if I trade it for the NVG instead).
  7. Hey guys, maybe a noob guestion, but I struggle when on CAS mission, cause I have problem to find targets. Let me picture you my problem. I play DCS with Liberation camapign and when I´m aasignet to a CAS mission, I get waypoint where I can search for enemy ground targets, its usually very rough position, units are very often just somewhere nearby (logically). Usually I fly with atflir, use mavericks or something similar (guided). Then there are situations - if the enemy units are pushing (on the move), I can use A/G GMT radar mode and find my targets without any problem, only issue is that I must visually identify the unit if it is friendly or not. But if units are defending, they are static, I can´t find any small targets like tanks etc. GMT mode is of no use, cause units are static, map mode is useless, cause small units are well hidden in terrain and cannot be spotted on the radar (at least I don´t recognize them on the radar). Only way I could from time to time find any targets is by pure luck. If I was shot at, I could navigate my atflir on the spot and then engage the unit, or if I was lucky enough that enemy units where very near my waypoint, I could spot them by atflir. By this is usally not the case. Can you help me what is your way of spotting enemy ground units on CAS missions, when you have no specific coordinates where to search for enemy units? It is easy to engage units if you have labels on, but that is not realistic to me, I refuse to use them in any variation. And also it is easy if you get specific GPS coordinates where you can find some units, but what if they moved and then they went static somewhere else? I just think I´m missing some certain way of searching for ground targets using onboard systems on my F/A 18C. Yea, I forgot to mention JTAC, of course I can find units marked by red smoke on the ground, but I don´t see it very realistic, cause in real life, the smoke would be only somewhere near the unit and enemy would be stupid to stay exactly on the spot after he gets marked by JTAC smoke. Using laser MAVS is one way of searching/eliminating enemies, but there must be some other way. Can you help me with this? Also a simple addon to my question - what is your way of making all hud symbols visible when using headtracing system? I use Delanclip and usually if I zoom out when in my cocpit, my HUD symbology stays like if it is still zoomed in and I can´t see all the information on the HUD (cause the symbology exceeds the HUD after I zoom out). Thx for your help.
