  1. I would like to see F4G one day - and would be happy to purchase it. I wouldn't say no to AI version either (that and Prowler).
  2. Hi, this is great script - Thank you very much MBot! Is there any way to specify targets (units) within the group? For example - flight of two to drop GBUs on search and track radars of sam site rather than them choosing random units within the group - such as launchers. I suppose I could alternatively make drop on specified coordinates on the map hitting exactly where I want. I was thinking it should be possible to specify units same as you can specify static targets? Thank you in advance.
  3. Great Video, Thank you ED! I would like to know more about Iraq map - I know it's been said it will initially centre on Baghdad and then extended further south. How far North and East it will cover? Will there be Mosul? I would love to see screenshot of the coverage - current and planned...
  4. Let's join speculation train... I am going to go with the pattern of 2 aircrafts and 2 maps seen so far... I am not going to mention stuff I hope ED is working on - Afghanistan Map, MIG 29 and Mitsubishi Zero. Maybe Vietnam...? However, I would not be surprised if ED's line up is more or less dependant on what their existing and potential professional customers want... I can see their corporate customer assistance rep receiving number of requests for Eastern Europe locations as well some Far East locations... recently... I also thought it is possible that ED is not working on any map at the moment (aside WW2 Marianas already in the works) - seeing how good third party developments working out and using ED resources for development of world map engine instead... Enough chatter and onto the speculation train: Third Party: - MIG 17 - it is quite possible as it was in the works from what I've seen somewhere on the forum and YT. - A1 or F105 or WW2 stuff ?- I would not be surprised to see IL2 although there is currently no map to fly it... but who knows... although maybe there is not much point in doing IL2 due to the other stuff already there... I would not be surprised to see any other WW2 plane - particularly from the Pacific Theatre in the view of WW2 Marianas. Maps: - Korea or Vietnam (if ED is not already working on one) third party map - WW2 Eastern Front map or 1990 - 2003 Iraq map ( including Kuwait of course and parts of Saudi Arabia ). Personally I would like Iraq map very much and Balkans if somebody was brave enough to make it... regardless of what is going to be - I am very happy to see DCS growing developers base and users base - it is awesome!
  5. It looks little bit odd, why different emitters of the same battery would be split between different tables? Example: HAWK SR and TR are in Table 5 but HAWK CWAR in 6... Similar with EWRs - Tables 8 and 9. There is also mistake with SA5 - it is marked as SR but Code 129 if I remember correctly is for Square Pair tracking radar. The first three tables are probably correct as they are the same as previously used for PB engagement without HTS but I would experiment with rest of them as they look strange... I forgot to mention - you can actually make your own tables anyway so it does not really matter what's in them... I havent tried it yet though.
  6. Thank you Frederf. I am pretty sure there was no HTS F16 back then. In the same book he makes reference to HTS years later when he ends up weaselling in the same place again in 2003 and they got HTS by then. He appears to be generally not impressed with HARMS and "earlier" versions of HTS pod. I was also thinking of HAS mode as soon as I've read about the cross. But it is not on HUD. At least not in our F16. Since my original question I found another quote In this book: "Magnum! The Wild Weasels in Desert Storm: The Elimination of Iraq's Air Defence" there is a reference to slapshooting HARMS: "... If the Viper was carrying HARMs, we could use our targeting system to pass info via ALIC to the F16's HARM and retarget his missile. From there we could radio the F16 something like 'Slapshot 350', which meant turn to the heading 350 and shoot. The HARM would take it from there based on the threat radar we, in the F4G, had detected along that axis..." (Book is by Brick Eisel and Jim 'Boomer' Schreiner. I have not read the whole thing yet - found the fragment while googling Harm slapshots. Booked is ordered though...) So it looks more like RUK mode. However it is interesting when he mentioned using their targeting system to pass info via ALIC to F16's HARM... Now it looks like they were able to link to F16's HARM remotely from F4G? Or he simply ignored F16's pilot as an "intermediate interface" to punch in ALIC radar code before launching missile... Interesting.
  7. It does not work like that in real jet. It is preprogramed on the tape before the mission. Known threat locations (usually estimated) can be marked as well as some custom "figures" for example no flight zones (box) possibly even polygons (not sure which version of software on real F16). Depending on SAM site type and what it supposed to defend, you may not have exact intel on it's location. Even strategic defences can be moved around to certain degree. During Vietnam war SA2 sites were moved sometimes in the matter of hours despite not being designed to be particularly mobile... Fast forward to Desert Storm and later conflicts there was more and better intel available from satellite imagery, but again there was a lot of sites that were not known. Especially smaller and more mobile SAMs such SA4, SA6, SA9, SA11 and SA19 to name few. Not to mention MANPADS. Their location is rarely known exactly if at all. They are very mobile and can move in the matter of minutes. Another example would be Soviet era Motorised Rifle Regiments - a corner stone of cold war eastern block warfare - there would be 4 x SA9 or SA8/SA13, 4 x Shilkas/ SA19 and probably as many as 30 SA7/SA14 or newer MANPADS. Protecting Regiment on the move or when in combat. No Threat circles for that either. Not to mention, that such regiment would have 40 tanks and about 140 BTRs/BMPs all with guns that could possibly hurt low flying plane. Try setting up half of that in DCS and see how long you will survive in A10 or try to SEAD them air defences... (Not even sure if any PC would be able to process such amount of units in DCS...) Then several of these and tank regiments would be protected by several batteries of SA6/SA11/SA17s and on the whole front would have SA4s and later SA12s (more or less SA10 on tracks so it can move with the whole front...) In The Middle East you could sometimes assume possible locations for SA6 looking at the premade sites but there is no guaranty they are going to be there. So that threat circle can be programmed visible on the jet but the SAM maybe somewhere else (Don't think it is currently possible in DCS mission Editor) Add IADS and you wont even see RWR warning for the SAM until it is shooting at you. If IADS is designed properly you will have very little time to react to that missile... All you will see on your RWR is EW radar. SAM will activate and shoot when you fly above it or from behind you. Also some more modern SAMs do not give launch warning same as older ones. Satellite intel aside, any other sources of info can and are being used - from ELINT to local "covert intelligence assets". None gives 100% guarantee that the SAM will be there. So we have got it quite easy with stock DCS SAMs at the moment, as even mighty SA10 uses early version of missiles which allowed for launch detection. Check HIGH DIGIT SAM mod to see more modern and deadly versions. I also highly recommend IADS mod - it makes air defence in DCS a lot more realistic and deadly... In case of your question I suspect that was the aim of the campaign/mission designer to leave locations of some smaller and mobile SAMS "hidden" otherwise it is too easy, and unrealistic. F16 in recent Beta got HTS pod which can detect locations of the SAMS and is one of main tools of the trade for SEAD/DEAD missions. Good luck!
  8. Hi, I am reading "Viper Pilot" by Dan Hampton. In the chapter about Desert Storm, he is ordered by his Lead to "...Slapshot SA2 at bearing..." He then describes (I am paraphrasing): Aiming Harm Cross on HUD at the target sam and launching Missile at it. What mode that would be on F16? It does not appear to be any of the modes we currently have. If understand correctly those were pre-HTS days and F4's were carrying pods to locate sams. In the book his Lead orders him to Slapshot specific Sam on specific bearing. It appears to be some sort of SP mode with marking on the HUD for where Harm seeker is looking. Similar to BORE mode on Maverick except no slewing? Did it require to lock on before launch or was it lock after launch. If so did pilot had pre-set the harm to go after specific radar - Fan Song for example? Or would it just lock onto any emitter in the seeker line of sight represented by that cross on HUD the author mentioned. I would appreciate if somebody with knowledge could explain what mode was that and if it something that DCS F16 may get in the future? Thank you in advance.
  9. Hi there! Thank you very much for the great mod! It is awesome! Question about Command Centre: It says in the manual: "The command center represents the place where information is collected and analysed. It if is destroyed the IADS disintegrates." Could I ask for clarification on how this "disintegration" would look like please? I am experimenting with small setup at the moment - one command centre (Command bunker static), one node( another static command bunker), 1 EW radar and SA2 and SA3 sites both with P19 as first unit and power plant static as power source. All appears to be working as it should. Destruction of Node results in sams and EW going dark (as I programmed in lua) same with the power plant destruction - all goes dark and stops working. However when I destroy command centre (debug status shows Command Centre destroyed), all sams go autonomous but do not go dark like they did if I destroy comms node. Is that working as intended what disintegration means in this context, or have I messed up programming it? If I understand correctly, it means the whole IADS system disappears and sams working as standard DCS AI? Sorry if it is stupid question, I am quite new to Iads and mist scripting. Sorted. Found it in one the first lines of the manual... Looks like I'm too blind to fly... Thanks again for the great mod! All the best to everyone!
