  1. Am relieved someone else is having that problem. I have a Saitek X52 and experience exactly the same thing. So annoying, particularly when in the thick of it, and the TGP on the left console just doesn't satisfy.;) Sorry for the short hi-jack; now back to your regular thread. -- Joker
  2. Just a quick aside to StrongHarm: First, I wanted to thank you -- your posts in this forum have been universally helpful; indeed your contributions have probably been the most useful for me of all of them. Thank you for easing the learning process a bit. I do hope the limitations of this kind of forum interaction doesn't tick you off too badly. Frankly, these battle-of-the-titans discussions/arguments are very valuable for the rest of us, since they are clearly coming from articulate, knowledgeable sources. I admire all the input thus far in this thread, and hope you will continue to interact in them. Even tho it may seem to get heated at times, that clearly is because of the passion for the subject, as opposed to the ego and silliness often seen in other flight sim forums. Thanks again. -- Joker
  3. The other great thing about the sim is that it attracts grown-ups. Do a Google search on "putatively." Hasn't been used on a flight sim forum since 1994. -- Joker
  4. Have we gotten our $60 out of this thing yet? :smilewink: -- Joker
  5. I can't for the life of me turn it off and on or adjust the volume despite having read all the relevant threads. Anyone else actually successfully turned it off or turned it down? Thanks. -- Joker
  6. Thanks. The training files are a little unique, it seems to me, because they are interactive and will not advance until you do the thing that will provide the trigger for it to proceed. And in most cases this is necessary because these are set-up steps for that which follows. So I guess there is no good way to shortcut doing everything again and again, even tho some procedures later in a training file don't really depend on setup during earlier ones. -- Joker
  7. Any way to bookmark or fastforward thru a training file so I can repeat something that came later without sitting in real time through all the stuff that comes sooner? Thanks. -- Joker
  8. Hi all, I've seen several references to the X45 being a pretty hopeless HOTAS for this beta, and that at the very least one needed to upgrade to the X52 (or one of the elegant/pricey units now available.) I have an X45 which handled Falcon 4 very well and now, before I start grinding out a similar profile for the DCS beta, I figured I should ask for the specific gotcha's I'm going to confront. It's been a while, but is the problem not being able to pick up the Win key, or not being able to distinguish a press and hold vs press, or something else? I'm inclined to try to live with the X45 for awhile longer, at least until I get more familar with this sim, even if it means using the keyboard a little more than usual, but perhaps I'm missing something really significant..... -- Joker
  9. Thanks for your time Panzertard. As luck would have it, I experimented some more and, for some reason, without changing anything, it now seems to work in all modes. If I can re-create the problem, I'll post again -- although I have been running the program in administrator mode, there may be an issue running from the shortcut on the desktop vs. "All Programs>Eagle Dynamics>etc.>etc. Not sure of that, tho. Again, thanks for the kind expenditure of time -- although I'm sure I'll be back. :) -- Joker
  10. Well, I have assumed the first attempt to buy the beta did not go thru, so I did it again and got the expected email, serial number, access to beta forum, etc. Things were looking up... However, it is not clear to me what I'm supposed to do with the serial number. I get no "serial-dialog box" and there are no prompts for it when I invoke the program and none of the options I have before it stops me with the above error code give me an opportunity to enter any serial number or validation code. Perhaps it asks later in the sequence (after I'm getting the error code?) Interestingly, I do get a prompt for the serial number with the Multiplayer .exe and it seems to accept it OK. Are all downloads identical or do I need to go back and download again -- perhaps my matching serial number is encoded in a unique download that I get only after buying the package? In any case, still get the error indication shown in the first post. Have downloaded several times, have installed and run both 64bit and 32bit .exe's as administrator several times, have restored my system to a previous time (and previous dx) etc., etc. but still no joy. I'm encouraged that I'm seeing several others who are seeing the same error indication as I, but haven't yet seen any reliable fixes... Will pursue this in the focused beta support fora but just wondering if there is something obvious here that I'm missing. -- Joker
  11. Just bought the beta (I think). When I was at the sagepay site, after clicking "proceed" to "complete your payment" the site timed out and never returned. I assumed it worked because I found I could download the 4 files, install them OK (apparently), and the introductory screen seemed OK. However, any attempt to fly the jet gave me an error (. Re-downloaded and re-installed, neither 32bit or 64bit worked (I'm running Win 7 Professional 64bit). I'm beginning to think I need a serial number (but see no place where I could have entered it.) Any help from anyone welcome. -- Joker
