"Wags" does a great job of explaining the process in his video here in the 1st 2 mins or so.

Take note of the process to follow to prevent the deck crew messing about Turn on the battery and APU then Salute just once from Ground Crew menu and listen for radio comms and frequency changes. Once the deck crew responds visually, continue with normal start-up and alignment. DO NOT salute again until the last 2 aircraft on the deck are in the catapults. Once those 2 aircraft start to launch (+-15m from mission start), salute again and follow the deck crew instructions. If you salute too early or try to taxi before the deck is clear the other aircraft will stop moving or block you NOTE: your wingman will taxi way before you, do not be tempted to move when they do.
