  1. A friend and I suspected the same but its only a visual bug. Extending and retracting the gear has effects on aerodynamics. What got us higher speeds was mainly retracting cowling flaps and the other cooling flaps. They apparantly create a lot of drag. After retracting those we got to 300 kts quite easily. I cant say how realistic the effect is but I would expect that exposing so much surface area to the air stream with all the coolers will limit your speed.
