  1. For single player, I have a button on my HOTAS assigned to bring up the DCS comms menu (i.e. press F1 for Flight, F2 for ATC, etc menu)... New to multiplayer, using SRS, have the same button as my "PTT" button. Went into a multiplayer server yesterday and when using the PTT button, the DCS comms menu doesn't show (which is good....) Went into the same multiplayer server today with SRS also running... my PTT button does transmit on SRS, but annoyingly also brings up the DCS comms menu, so I have to press the PTT button twice to make it go away. Any way to set it so that in multiplayer my PTT button will not toggle the comms menu? Would prefer not to have to manually change control allocations when switching between multi and single player, if possible... thanks
  2. So in the end, I built a complete new system and found a second hand reconditioned 3080 Ti. Wow - what a difference! I can run DCS in VR with all settings maximised, and the big improvement for me is about ground units. Before, I found it very difficult to see vehicles - attacking a convoy of trucks on a road even from 1000-2000 ft was previously very difficult but now there is so much more detail, colour and contrast, things seem much easier to see. Vegetation is more vivid and buildings seem a lot more detailed. Thanks to everyone that contributed advice.
  3. So, in the end I bought a complete new system (parts) and built a new machine from scratch; managed to get a second hand very good condition 7800X3D - seems to be very swift. Thanks to all who offered help and support
  4. Well may I just say "thank you very much, Sir" because I had never heard of "PC Part Picker" before... then I saw the link you supplied was US/in USD so I thought "oh, that's a shame; a great idea but US focused." Oh no.... it's UK-too! Wow. I will now be having hours of fun with that. One of the bemusing things about this for people like me (who built machines years ago and hasn't kept up with what everything means these days) is all the different combinations of chipsets, interfaces, etc. That website appears to check compatibility and do 'best price', what a fab idea
  5. Thanks for info, that's reassuring. When you say it will increase FPS.... I interpret Frames Per Second to link to stutter/glitching etc. At present, my VR experience is very smooth and I do have most of the graphics settings in DCS set to 'high', it's just that object clarity eg scenery/distance viewing/clouds isn't as good as I would want (cockpit graphics are excellent). So would the increased FPS capacity mean that I get better graphics quality overall?
  6. Thanks for the reply. I have 32GB RAM; at present I have a 2070 8GB GPU although am also considering upgrading that too...
  7. I have an ASUS Prime A320M-K motherboard, am considering doing some upgrades to my machine but have to be selective due to price. I already have 32GB RAM, M.2 nVME storage and a GeForce RTX 2070 (8GB)-based graphics card. Hoping to soon upgrade CPU to something like a Ryzen 9 5950X. Is it as simple as swapping out the 2070 card for a new-to-me (second hand), thinking something like a 3080Ti 12GB? I use a HP Reverb 2 VR - will such a graphics card swap result in better graphics in VR or is it the VR headset that is limiting? (it is mainly things like spotting ground vehicles/ground scenery that I find difficult). thanks for any info
  8. Hello; I have an ASUS Prime A320M-K motherboard (AM4 socket) currently with a Ryzen7 1700X processor... possibly thinking about putting in another AM4 socket processor - something like a Ryzen 9 5950X or similar, hoping it will be just a straight swap although I will also put in a water cooler AIO type arrangement as machine gets hot when playing DCS. Is it as simple as swapping an AM4 for an AM4 -socket CPU? And will I notice any difference playing DCS with a better CPU? thanks for any advice
  9. Thanks for replies guys. Looks like a simple enough solution, but not obvious
  10. Yes, that's what I thought, I did those things already. Numpad5 does not show on the line as being a mapped key, but still is...
  11. I'm looking for a definitive answer as to whether the HP Reverb G2 supports the idea of passing through an image as received by the front cameras of the 'real world' on demand. I'm not interested in a full-scale 'mixed reality' passthrough. My use case is simply, when I toggle a HOTAS button, I want to be able to see my physical keyboard in front of me to press keys, and then press a HOTAS button to return to VR view. At present, I am having to physically lift my VR headset with my hands to be able to see the keyboard, it's a pain...
  12. In DCS control settings, I have bound a HOTAS button for re-centring VR so do not want to have the Numpad5 'default' option [I never set it...]. There are no 'keyboard' keys bound to re-centre VR according to my DCS control setup. The HOTAS re-centre works perfectly. Unfortunately, Numpad5 on my keyboard still fires a VR re-centre signal, meaning it messes up my view if my head is not centred. So for example if I was using Numpad5 to enter a frequency into the UFC scratchpad, it would have the undesired side effect of centring my VR view. Is there some lower-level setting [eg outside of DCS] controlling this? This is a HP Reverb G2 with OpenXR/Windows Mixed Reality thanks in advance for any ideas
  13. Hello everyone, some really helpful comments here. I didn't realise my CPU was quite as limiting as it is, because this PC (which was given to me) is 'so' much faster at DCS than my previous PC which was a 3rd generation i7. I'll definitely try those ideas about pausing with a given graphics setting to see the detail.
  14. Hello I have an nVidia 2070 graphics card and I can fly in VR (Reverb G2) fine. 'But' textures, clouds, scenery etc is no where near as good in VR compared to when I used to fly in 'flat screen'. But wow does VR make all the difference. My question is, if I installed a 'new to me' graphics card eg changed from a 2070 to a 3080, would I 'notice' the difference in VR? Is it going to change the VR scenery, textures etc enough? My other key specs are: CPU is AMD Ryzen 7 1700X 8-core at 3.4 GHz, 32 GB DDR5 RAM, nvme storage. If I'm going to buy a new (second hand) graphics card, I can't up any of my other specs, the wife won't allow more spending... any advice appreciated
