The date is now January 2025 so I’m a little late to the party! After several attempts to hit the 20,000 ft. gate, I punched my F2 button to see my external view and verify my landing gear was UP but to my surprise I saw a pair of drop tanks (fuel tanks under the wings). After clearing the 10,000 ft. gate, I jettisoned both drop tanks and found it super helpful! Now I clear the 20,000 ft. gate and start the next instructions …turn to 94 degree heading and climb to 25,000 ft. for 22 miles.
That where I get stuck! Even at only 160 mph climb rate, 22 miles should take about 7 minutes! I’m flying 10 - 15 minutes and never see another gate, no more instruction, …nothing! The briefing says you will be instructed to your “airport” destination. How about giving us the destination airport NAME?
Is the Airport destination so far away that I shouldn’t jettison my external tanks to reach the 20,000 ft. gate? Am I suppose to hold the 94 degrees heading longer? 20, 30, 40 minutes? Also, at 25,000 feet, I’m in and out of thin cloud layers, am I missing the gate hidden in cloud layers?
I think Charnwood is great training for student pilots but can also be frustrating … like Crosswind Take-Offs/Landings …. How about a little reference in the briefing area regarding how to crab into a crosswind? Maybe at least mention a Link to reference Crosswind Training!
