  1. I went from a 9700 pro to the 9800XT but soon switched to the NVIDIA 6800GT. The 6800GT smoked everything out there for the same price and it gives me the ability to keep the card for SLI later on. I use dual displays for work and the NVIDIA support for that is much better than ATIs.
  2. Yeah that's why I posted J/A. Short for Jack ___. you fill in the blank.
  3. Gotta say I was unhappy with LOMAC after all the hype and left before the patches came out for the original, but FC is great and I find myself playing what should have been the original release. This is great!
  4. I'm sorry I didn't specify clear enough. When I said 20-30KM from each other I meant units (with one radar and eight launchers per unit). The launchers can be 1-2 KM apart from the radar. :icon_redf
  5. Classified ranges are even greater than whats published.
  6. It depends on the target your defending. When I was at OSAN AFB in Korea we had two units deployed on both sides of the airfield. (Kunsan AFB was the same down south) Now that sounds close and it is but it was still about 3-4KM apart. There was a golf course that goes around the airfield and it was in GOLF magazine as the most guarded golf course in the world. Usually coverage of the units is overlaping since they don't do a 360 degree search like HAWK did, but the Koreans had manned 4 barrel air defense guns around us (useless with todays aircraft). When we go out and play I would say we are about 20-30K away from each other but again it depends on the mission. Launchers can be quite close to the radar (just out of backblast area) or up to 2KM away via fiber optics or digital over radio, so the launchers can be spread out.
  7. As an ADA soldier for 13 years I can tell you you will be engaged without blinking at 30K feet 40 kilometers especially if you are high speed and head on, at 20K were gonna punch two missiles off at you because that's considered too close. If you are fast enough the system will engage automatically as you would be seen as a possible HARM or TBM threat. ECM is almost useless against a phased array radar that has final lock on. Ask the US coalition pilots flying in the last IRAQ war who got shot down by PATRIOTS (F-16/F-18). (They were flying outside the return flight corridors, improper IFF codes, and above the speed for the corridor). The FAS site has some good info which is fairly accurate as far as distance and capabilities. http://www.fas.org/spp/starwars/program/patriot.htm
  8. The Air Defense threats in this sim are unrealistic. Not necessarily the way they are situated but in the ranges they fire. I played with the HAWK, PATRIOT, and now the THAAD systems and I can tell you your not getting within 50K of the first two without them locking on you and within 30K they are gonna fire. Any low flying aircraft or aircraft using the terrain for cover will be engaged by SHORAD (Short Range AD such as Stinger/Sentinel/AVENGER/HUMRAAM). Granted the map areas would have to be huge to support this but at least it would be somewhat realistic.
  9. My BFG 6800GT card comes overcloked too but they put a better heatsink on it so it's covered under the warranty. In situations such as this I'll go buy another (doesn't work so well with mail order) then bring back the broken one and just get my money back. I've overclocked every vid card and processor I've had and they will normally crash before they fry. Sounds like it was bad or cheap components to begin with.
  10. So far everything I have works with the 64 Bit version except for my wireless card but it was out of date anyway so no drivers would ever be developed. LOMAC 1.2 works fine and I've been playing with the hope that sometime soon they would patch the addon to work. I've got a Saitek X52 with NVidia 6800GT and and Audigy 2 card. All the drivers are there for me and I haven't had any problems yet running any games except for this addon. Hell to my knowedge LOMAC wasn't a top seller so I'm not so sure why they are worried about protecting this add on anyway, simmers usually don't give this stuff away. The only program I did have a problem with was Perfect disk 7.0 but when I wrote them about 64 support they said they are currently developing a compatible version which should be out soon. I just wanted to play and was hoping someone could give me a time frame.
  11. Any kind of news when they might patch the protection module to be compatible with XP 64 Bit? Two days after I bought Flaming Cliffs I got my XP 64 bit CD from MS so that's what I'm runing now and it won't work with this program due to the protection program. So I have a $35 program I can't run and since every other game I have works and works better I'm not going back to regular XP. :icon_jook
  12. In mission 2 of the a-10 campaign instead of the normal TV or IR screen for the mavs there's some type of radar. I've tried switching weapons and still the same. Anyone know if this is a glitch or is there some way of turning it off to the normal way. I can't tell if the mavericks are locking up or not.
