  1. It looks like Gorton Digital can be had here - https://github.com/drdnar/GortonDigital.  It directly references MS33558 and probably should be the definitive font for these purposes.  That being said, I'm having a hell of a time getting fontforge to run without dying. 🙂

Edit: I should note that while the Gorton Digital typeface is very good, it differs greatly in a few spots from the MS33558 definition.

  2. Excellent work on the font folks!  Derek created that font in 2000 for the simpits.org group. 🙂  I'm sure he'd be happy to know his work is still appreciated!

BTW, for those that weren't aware of it, "real" aircraft panels are typically made using a silk screen process - unless they're a one off or a repair, and then I've heard laser engraving is used.

Based on the photos I have, it appears to pull on a shaft that actuates a switch. I created the model above yesterday, based on a DXF file I sent to Sierra99. :) When I get time, I'll pull apart one of my Suncom sticks so I can model the mounting post in order to add that to the assembly. I'm also using 8-32 heat set inserts to hold the box cover on. The cover is .125" aluminum as it'll give the frame a lot more rigidity and should help prevent stress failures over time.

  4. I heard back from a restorer and it looks like the solution ED applied is likely good enough - at least without additional information. :)

"The flare gun fitted to tube in cockpit was not the same gun as in the pilot Pocket. The gun in the Pocket was used for emergency after jump in parachute, you had lack of time to open the wing nut and remove flare gun from tube if you was in emergency But some Aircraft didn,t have flare gun fitted in tube, the picked up a Me-109 from sea in Norway for some years ago.On this one flare gun was not fitted in cockpit tube but in the stowage room aft in Cockpit."
