  1. Excellent post thanks.  I'm having the same issue.  I had NO ghosting issues at all.   It started with Elite dangerous actually where the throttle wouldn't zero.  So I tried the regedit thing to clear the calibration and that didn't work.  So I took it apart and tried to center the throttle gears exactly at the right range but it just then wouldn't give me max thrust.

The only thing that worked was to do the manual button dip switch toggles to reset the unit.  Then the throttle range was correct.

So as a side effect of taking it apart and putting it back together the ghosting started.

I tried the USB port thing, the dimming, many other things.  Took it back apart, cleared the grease best I could looked at the wires found no kinks etc.   But the majority of the issues did indeed seem to be from one module.  I looked and that harness is compressed pretty good from when you put it back together.

My ghosting issue is there can be no movement at all involved and it'll go off.  SO infuriating I've had to basically disabled all those functions on the hotas and assign keybinds and not use the buttons.  I have some ferrite barrels so I may try that too

But in my conclusion the whole thing started just because I took it apart and put it back together

  2. Ok as a follow up. I reinstalled from scratch after a thorough cleaning and defragging of my machine. This decreased the load times from 4 mins to 2 mins.

    That is good.

So I ran the first campaign mission which is what I use as my benchmark. Managed to get all the way through it without a crash.

    That is good.

I request a taxi permission.. all of a sudden the nearby Tornados stop taxiing and would not move for the rest of the mission. Could not get the tower to allow me to taxi. Could not get my wingman to follow or take off either. So I had to just take off without permission. No orders would get him to take off.

So the taxiing still seems a bit messed up.

The JTAC again I keep getting an "Abort Abort Abort" after being cleared hot and not even having my master arm turned on. Not firing a single round. This has happened a couple times now.

I also got hit by a nearby sam it seems. I saw the damage on the aircraft, but absolutely NO warnings went off, even though my countermeasures and ALQ were damaged. So that was bad.

Moments of lag again were pretty bad, which seems to coincide with turning on the TGP or switching to it, or getting closer to ground troops. If I make a strafing run it goes to 1 frame per 5 seconds...

So performance is still piss poor, though I get a good 20fps on the ground at startup with no MSAA or anything turned on.

In my mission briefing it showed about 100 repetitious reports of being hit and damaged (the countermeasures) over and over again. So much so that loading the debriefing was so slow it was almost useless to scroll around.

So that was the 2nd time I was hit with no warnings but I lost systems with the new patch.

Several other anomalies of course the jtac not updating because of improper net settings.

I think this patch pandered to the online people more or less this time. I think I'll wait another 2 months when .8 comes out and try again. Should be polished and ready for an actual release then.

  3. Have to admit the sound guys are brilliant. Especially the doppler effects and lag time from explosions and other aircraft are spot on. Especially the muffled parts.

However the explosions of missile nearby are useless.. you should hear a really loud pop, especially when you have a SAM the size of a telephone pole exploding nearby..

    That is my one complaint.

  4. What a difference! I completely reinstalled simm as Wags suggested. Now missions time loading is normal (like before), and gameplay is real smooth.

Gonna try this reinstall procedure this weekend and see if I need to eat my hat.

  5. Smeghead, comparing Crysis 2 performance to DCS is like comparing Miss World to a Nobel prize winner. Crysis 2 is all about good looks without much depth in terms of CPU-side simulation and DCS is first and foremost a very intricate simulation with enormous CPU loading. As a bonus we get nice graphics as well, but the bottleneck lies with the CPU.

That means your graphics card is waiting on the CPU to produce new data to draw its next frame. Get better CPU+mobo+memory and you'll see a good performance increase, get a better graphics card and you'll see the same performance.

Ah.. yeah I have a quad core processor and my video card has only been released for a month. I have many many sims and games that run fine, including ARMA II etc. I'm just saying I'm waiting until this is playable without bugs or performance hindering my experience. I can get past a lot of things and I do, but some of the bugs just really take away from the experience. Not the type of bugs a real pilot would encounter with the systems either.

  6. Same here. The "//" trick solved some freezes like a 3-4 second freeze when MAV's hit a target, and upon a switch to F3 external view- but they are still quite bad.

Bad stutter when turning on TGP. (not pwr- but selecting mode after warmup) others are a bit random.. will try to write down some specifics if I can find any other patterns..

Frames seem pretty sucky to so-so to me. (MP mission: "separatist aggression" as client, host only other one in room..)

Yeah I'm getting them all. I so want to enjoy this sim, but I just can't. I had hours of enjoyment learning many of the systems but now that you want to put them in action it just doesn't work well at all. I think i'm just going to come back in about 6 months when this is ready for most people to use. Funny how I can run Crysis 2 at full detail but I can't do 1440x900 with half detail on this without really bad stuttering at times (mainly due to hard drive) but even on the ground the frame rates are not too great.

Oh well, another patch another disappointment. See ya in another month or so for the next one.

  7. I'm seeing frame rate loss too...also momentary freezes rampant.

My review of my first mission with the new patch.

I defragged and optimized right after applying the patch to be sure it was not going to be hindered by fragmentation.

Considering the system I have (quad core, 1 month old vid card etc) I'm still disappointed. The performance keeps going down down for me every patch. I mean it is smooth at first but once you get into the action and thick of things I'm getting really long lags especially near the ground.

So far it took me 3mins and 59 seconds to load the first campaign mission. Once I was in it was smooth @ 1440x900 with much on high.

I got permission to taxi, but my wingman just sat there and didn't move. So I had to order him into a formation to get him to move and follow me. He eventually took off and caught up.

I took off and once thing I noticed was the contrails above. Pretty cool. But when I look up with my track IR the WHOLE contrail will disappear at times! So there is some sort of graphical glitch for that.

So to near the IP, I call JTAC to check in. I tell him I'm ready for the 9 line, and then right away out of the blue "Abort Abort Abort!" then asks me again if I'm ready for the 9 line. I'm like wtf I didn't shoot.. So I ask for it, get the coordinates.

Got the data, but no data uplink again! I had the right net / group ID so it must not work again...

So I turn on my TGP - had to wait 5 seconds of lag for it to turn on.

I eventually got the coordinates and manually put them in and they were spot on. Quite a battle going on so I fly in and try to drop some cbu-97's and when I do it becomes a slide show. I turn around frustrated and say screw it I'm going to strafe the rest of the armor column and the lag got so bad I basically went from 2000ft to instantly being on the ground in flames.

The good news so far now after a couple missions is that is has not crashed. After the last patch I couldn't get through 2 missions without a crash.

So we are seeing some progress. The list is long... keep plugging away! I can't wait to try multiplayer finally to have the data link working.

  8. I haven't touched the sim since the last patch. It broke too much to make it playable. I'm just going to sit and be patient and wait for a release that is a legitimately done product. Patience is a virtue...

No multiplayer SPI pretty much killed it for me.

  9. The current theater has been around for ever and is getting very old, and the fact that you have a A-10 Warthog flying missions in Russia against a large amount of SAM's is just a MAJOR turn off for me. I understand it would take a large amount of time and resources to build a whole new terrain, but for me this theater is just turning me away.

Imagine DCS-A10 Iraq/Afghanistan/Iran, etc. Even a middle eastern fictional theater would be fine, and i think it would boost sales a lot. Honestly Navada sounds boring if you ask me, I simply don't buy a combat flight sim to fly around and do training. I don't understand ED putting all this time and effort into a training area of operations.

    Just my Opinion.

    /agree

  10. Iran is the next logical choice. Afghanistan has no air force to speak of, just tribals fighting.

Iran is a potential powderkeg that would be spectacular to model. Hard of course and time consuming but putting the work and effort into a middle east theatre is worth it in the long run. There is always trouble going on there. The whole middle east gulf area is waiting to blow up.. Even throw Israel in there as well.

Then you'd have the map and data for years to come... Could use it for pretty much any upcoming game.

See if you can steal the data from F4 for South/North Korea as well while you are at it.. :)

  11. I agree.. I don't think we'll ever see a dynamic campaign with static targets and objects that pass on to the next mission etc. Their real area of expertise seems to be in the pit and flight models. That is a good thing.

The development of a dedicated server with tools for the owner to add flights, and tanks and objects on the fly would probably cure this impossibility. An online dynamic scripted long term dedicated server would be fantastic.

Think of it this way. One night I start the server. Set the mission parameters, set certain flights to repeat for so long like cap, sead etc. Only set it to repeat for 24hrs. I come in the next day see that 50% of the missions were shot down, t hen that means I can only really set up 50% of the caps or less the next day. I can set up missions for trains to be rolling in reinforcements from the North, or ship bound reinforcements from the south. Set up waypoints and different scenarios. Come back the next day see how it progressed. See if certain objectives were held or not.

This control gives it a dynamic feel for online players...

  12. cool, thanks for the tip! Hadn't thought about the fact that I'd be able to see his SPI on my TAD.

I've recently been trying to 'ween' myself off labels (have them adjusted now so they don't show up very far away and are just little dots "."). so I'll take any help I can get!

That's interesting. How do you do that? I'd like to modify when labels appear. Like only when you are within 3 miles or less would be good. Also having it only dots would be super. It makes it more realistic while using your TGP from that point forward. Eyeballs can see higher resolution than this sim so I'm assuming people would be able to spot targets long range with their eyeballs better than the game would indicate.
