  1. I'm glad you like it! It might take me a bit to get more of them done since this is the only one I've really ever used in sim so it was just a matter of putting my procedure to paper. You are more than welcome to put them up once I get them done. I'll send you a PM with my progress updates. I noticed a few errors on this one when I relooked at it this morning so I'll fix those up before passing along a final copy. Also if you look at your dads old charts and find any information to add to these please let me know! Also do you guys have another airport that you use frequently that you would like me to put at the top of the priority list?
  2. Hey all, I was doing some research and found an addon for Fs9 that simulates the Leapfrog mission which the RCAF carried out to take squadrons of Sabres across the atlantic ocean to bases in Europe. Contained within this package was a few actual scans of approach plates to airports that they flew into. They were pretty rudimentary but as I have experience flying into CFB Goosebay all the time, it was awesome to see how things have changed from the mid 50's. I decided that I wanted to try my hand at making a few approach plates using these as templates for use in DCS World with the Sabre. Below is one I quickly did up this evening for Batumi. I based it off what I imagine a pilot would be issued when they arrived in theatre. I called the Batumi beacon "The Batumi Range" but its based off the NDB as they are practically the same thing. The chart is set up to get you down for a landing runway 13 in pretty poor weather. This still has to be flight checked a bit to confirm it won't slam you into any hills but I've done a similar procedure before without issues. I did this mainly for myself but if people like this and feel they would use it, I'll probably make a few more for some other airports in theatre. Please let me know what you think, and if you fly it and have any issues with it, let me know. I'll make the changes.
  3. I think this would be great! However until the ATC is able to control AI units, I think this would be more frustrating than anything. I find getting back to my airfield now with limited military AI flights bad enough, let alone throwing in some civil and full on military flights! It would be nice to see a few civilian aircraft models though, so that mission builders can use them in their missions. Maybe you have to intercept a civilian airliner that has a communications failure or something.
  4. Hey all! I've been learning how to fly and attack targets using the A-10C and I can use most weapons, fly instrument approaches etc. I'll be darned if I can survive when I go to virtual war though. I tried flying a campaign mission (downloaded one) and the target was advancing tank columns. The target was covered in air defenses but SEAD flights were going to soften it up beforehand. I took off with a standard load of CBU-87s, CBU-97s, and a few AGM-65s. I watched the SEAD flights attack a few targets, rtb, and then got a target assignment from JTAC, and was pointed in the direction of some tanks that he told me were in close proximity to SA-6s, SA-11s and MANPADs. I did some looking over the target using the TGP and couldn't locate these air defenses and decided to go for it. I've tried this mission several times and I haven't had much luck. I've tried different tank groups, and different types of attacks. What tactics would you guys use in this situation? I've tried using CBUs at high altitude, in which I got hit by a sam while I had to fly level. I also tried as low as I could go with them (Bad idea...I know) and got hit by AAA coming off the run. I'm all for tank plinking with AGMs, but I'd definitely be rtb with some CBU's on the racks. I'm not a trigger happy guy, I'd rather survive with some weapons left over. Should I even be thinking about trying to use CBU's here, or should I just use AGM's and call it a day? Thoughts on tactics, or techniques that might help me be effective and survive? Thanks! Justin
  5. This is the link to the mission with the navigation points. Very well done. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/38356/ This works great if you are making a custom mission and I plan to use it. The problem comes in play when you try to play a single mission, or a campaign. With no way to merge the points into that mission, it doesn't really work. I have found a text file that seems to contain some waypoints for a database and I've done a bit of messing around with this file but with no luck. I can't get any waypoints to show up in game. The files I'm referring to are located here: DCSWorld\Mods\aircraft\A-10C\Cockpit\Scripts\NavigationComputer\Database Again, I'm not sure if these are even the correct files for what I'm trying to do. Hopefully someone who has more experience with coding and this type of file can offer some thoughts on if I'm even in the right spot. I know how to create flightplans using the CDU. I went through and figured out approx coordinates for all the navigation points on the ILS approach into Viziani, input them into a flight plan and flew the entire procedure to an ILS landing. Worked great, but I'm not sure if you can permanently save these flight plans.
  6. On further looking, I found a mission that adds in most of the waypoints and taught me how to add further ones that I need in the game. So this solves my problem for custom mission, but not for already made or campaign sorties. If anybody knows how to add these points permanently to the data base that would be great! I'd also try to release a version of this to the public if I can figure out how and get it working.
  7. Hey all, Did some searching and even looked through the LUA files myself but I couldn't crack this one. What I would like to do is add a few waypoints to the game database so that I can easily pull them up in any mission I'm flying. The reason would be to say add in the waypoints for the approach plates contained within the awesome approach plates that Snoopy and Noodle created. Rather than have to input the coordinates every single time I want to go direct to AKAKI for the ILS13 in Batumi, I'd like to just be able to type the waypoint name in and fly gps direct. I found what I think it the waypoint database for the A-10C under the A-10 mod folder but I'm wondering if anybody had an easy way to add waypoints to this file. Thanks in advance, Justin.
  8. Just to go back to setting flaps for landing. I also notice that the plane seems to start to climb rapidly when you put the flaps down but this isn't nessesarily unrealistic behaviour. In most airplanes, you put the flaps down in stages and at each extension usually the aircraft elevator must be pushed nose forward and trimmed nose down. That's the way it is in the Saab 340 irl. I've notice people here saying that you must trim up when putting flaps down in the sabre but that's not what I notice. As soon as I put the flaps down, I have to pitch down, and trim nose down to relieve control pressure. While it's very pronounced, it's not nessesarily unrealistic. Most aircraft don't go from 0 flap to full flap in one big movement, and that's going to upset the aircraft a bit.
  9. It would be cool if the Detrola LF receiver worked. Easy to use hard to master, but it would be neat if the system worked. There was a system made for Fs2004 that allowed similar equipment to work properly and simulated the Radio Ranges of the time. With out this equipment we have no choice but to navigate using pilotage, or in the case where a mission designer puts upper winds in you could manually plot the whole mission into a navlog. The way to do this is way more than one post here can explain. Theres lots of explanations to be found online though!
  10. I know this is a bit late, but I'll do my best to explain GCA. The system consisted of a radar set that was tuned to show where the aircraft was in relation to the runway in question. Using a screen at the GCA site, a dedicated GCA controller could see if the aircraft was to the left or right of centerline, and if he was too high, or low on the approach. The pilot checked in with the controller and was provided initial approach clearance, and then told there was no need to respond to anything the controller stated apart from a readback on the landing clearance. The controller would then start talking the pilot to the ground. Things you would typically hear would be as follows, "On slope" "Left turn 5 degrees, correcting centerline nicely" "Right turn 3 degrees, on centerline, on slope" "Slightly above slope, increase rate of descent" "Slope correcting nicely" "On slope, on localizer, resume normal descent rate" "Cleared to land runway 08, check gear down" "Over runway threshold" And at this point hopefully the pilot has seen the runway and can make the landing visually. I've done them in real life as a civil pilot flying into joint military/civil airports when the controllers needed practice. Very cool system, although we call it a Precision Approach Radar now, not a GCA. Using this system you could recover aircraft with very little onboard equipment.
  11. I've since done about 3 other missions, and I've never had it happen again. I'm thinking it was a bug. I've tried to recreate it and I've never been able to. My understanding was that the homing system isn't modelled as well, so that's what kind of threw me for a loop. To defend myself on the tacan ident, I am a real pilot and since I only had a short taxi, and I was going to switch to the tanker tacan to ident it anyway (which I've since realized I have nothing to really ident there anyway) and wasn't bothering me until whatever tone that was went solid. Thanks for the tip on pushing down the volume knobs on the intercom panel though, I didn't know you could do that. I thought you had to twist them off Anyway, if it happens again, I'll repost but I'm thinking it was a glitch. I also forgot to mention that I pressed no buttons, and tuned no radios when the tone went solid. It just kind of happened..
  12. Hey all, This morning I tried to do an air to air refueling mission when I ran into a strange problem I've never had before. After starting up all the systems and getting my radios set up I had an identifier tone coming from what I thought was the Tacan. Since I was going to switch to the tanker Tacan airborne anyway, I didn't bother to turn it down. As I taxied out, another indent tone started to sound, which wavered a bit and then went solid. At this point I noticed that the FM homing light had illuminated. I tried turning all the volumes down on both the radios and the intercom panel, and even tried turning the radios off all to no avail. The sound continued no matter what I did. Even changing all frequencies had no effect. I eventually had to abort since I couldn't stand the noise anymore. Anybody have any ideas what this was or how to fix it? Thanks, Justin
  13. Hey everyone, I just bought the sim and have been having a blast (Literally) I did a quick search and found excellent set of airport diagrams. but I also see that no one has done any approach plates for the sim, due to a lack of corelation between IRL and the sim. Does the sim have any active NDB's or such that can be used for full procedure approaches? Using those charts that were shown in this post http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=64700&highlight=approach+charts it should be possible to conduct full procedure approaches and use the NDB tracks to put you right down the pipe. How do you guys do it? (I'm a real world canadian IFR pilot so I understand the lingo, even though I've never seen those types of approach charts, I think I've figured them out.) Thanks in advance guys, and thanks to DCS for making such an awesome sim!
