  1. Hey folks, I'm out on a limb here, because I get random crashes that I can't figure out. I've been on triple screen, and single monitor. Sometimes it crashes when I release a weapon, other times when a SAM launches at me. Sometimes I crash on joining, sometimes it's after an hour of playing and I'm just looking around my cockpit. I can't figure out a pattern, but here is the crash log (other than the "E##xxx#x", it's the same log data every time): I'm running 64bit win 7, and the rest of my system specs are below (i've switched to one monitor for now, 1920x1200) Any insight is appreciated!
  2. blarg Vlerkies, I'm just as sad the 6990 was limited in DCS, but I think you'll feel a lot better once you get the 680 installed. Look at the bright side, unless you play noob games like BF3, this will be a solid upgrade!
  3. Well, last update hopefully... The bad news: After researching the mouse issue the past few hours, I've found no solution that works without compromising SoftTH. The Good news: it's a bug that ED is aware of. The Really good news: It only effects single player. Multiplayer works just fine, although I'm not sure how or why these modes are different. The best news: MFDs are exported beautifully, and overall FPS are higher than original NV setup with no exported displays. I've got to say thank you again, PeterP for your simple yet elegant fix to my config woes. + rep'd.
  4. Thanks PeterP! The "keepComposition=1" is what got me. I had aero enabled in windows, and the "disable aero" in game option was unchecked, but that one line made everything snap to life! Next issue I am researching is the mouse...it's a yellow cross like it should be, but whenever I click in game, it thinks it's on the desktop. I've read a few posts already and it sounds like it's a known bug...wish me luck
  5. Sorry, these didn't copy properly on the initial post. Thanks again for any input! The white bars are bezel compensation via SOFTH config. Actual pic of the lcd's and config files are below: config.SofTHconfig: monitor lua: Options lua:
  6. Hi all, I recently setup two lilliput um-80s to export my MFCDs to in A-10. I was running NV surround, but it is not compatible with display link usb monitors, so I disabled that and setup SOFTH. I've got it running three screens, just like nv surround did, and set the resolution at 4052x1920 to account for bezel comp and the extra width of the lilliputs (set to the right, see screenshot). Attached is a screenshot of my monitor setup (via desktop), and a screenshot of the game with MFCDs exported to the same location as the lilliputs. It looks like it should be working, but the MFCDs are not displaying on my 8'' monitors. They're just blank screens (attached picture). What I've tried: -Lilliputs have most current drivers, and aren't broken (parts of the cockpit were on them prior to SOFTH config, and they display windows/desktop) -I've played with my SOFTH config, and monitor LUA. Both are attached, along with the options lua. -Disabled AERO, enabled AERO -switched MFCD pages, no visual on lilliputs -and researched more threads than I can count: Really running out of ideas and starting to feel a bit disheartened. Any ideas or feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks all.
  7. Hi all, Is there a way in the control options to set a modifier on a button so that it performs its action upon release? I ask because when using the TM Warthog, the a10 engines are cut by "button 30" being held. When you move the throttle over the hump, which releases "button 30" the engines start. Moving the throttle back behind the hump re-engages button 30, shutting down the engines. I'm trying to mirror this setup on the SU-25 but can't figure it out. Setting button 30 to shut engines off does not make them start when it's released. Setting button 30 to start engines sorta works, but moving the throttle back down the hump (re-engaging btn 30) doesn't shut em off. It's a one or the other sort of thing, as far as I can figure. I'm wondering if this is a custom command that was hard coded into DCS, specifically for the A10 when using a WH hotas, but am hoping someone smart has a way to do it with other commands/aircraft as well. Any ideas are welcome!
  8. Hi there, sorry for the late response Vlerkies. The benchmarks at the beginning prove my point that the 6990 was not performing as well as it should have in this game. My move to the 680 was a big improvement that I am still enjoying... That being said, DCS is pretty much the only game that I play. The 6990 benches better in several other popular titles, so it's sort of an individual choice whether the move to a single card will be beneficial or not. One of my friends had two GTX 560's in SLI and he sold those off for a 680...he noticed a similar improvement as well. So as far as Xfire vs SLI here, I would still recommend a single card from whichever mfgr. When the Nevada terrain comes out, perhaps it will be get more multi-gpu compatability but its honestly not something that I'd pin my hopes on.
  9. I'll give this a go, thanks for the input. I figured there would be one or two command changes, but hopefully porting old config files over will just leave the new ones blank or unchanged. Next thing I dread is configuring inputs for the new aircrafts I know I'll end up buying... *Looking at you P-51 & mystery jet in development*
  10. Hi all, I recently installed A10 beta module into DCS world, and was hoping I could avoid re-doing all my bindings. I saved an lua file from my current DCS A10, imported it in the DCS World A10, but it didn't seem to take. I haven't been able to find anything similar on the forums, but I have no idea if a binding import is not possible between the two versions, or if it's just a beta-ism? OR, maybe am I just doing it wrong?
  11. On the other forum, My bench was in A10. You took me to a forum with a BS 2 track, and you asked me to add to the thread. That being the case, I only thought it appropriate to concisely share my results than to change the subject or comment on something I have no experience with. While I do not support Obama, I'm not sure how that plays into the apparent miscommunication here.
  12. Keep in mind, everything I did is on three 1920x1080 displays in a portrait setup (check the image for the resolution on the settings). Also, this is something else that surprised me...I find NVSurround to be more enjoyable than Eyefinity. Let me clarify, in gaming it's pretty much the same. On the desktop though, Nvidia captured several nuances that AMD missed. For example, on Eyefinity if you make a window full screen, it spans across all 3 displays. Nvidia spans it across only the monitor that the window started on. Much easier to read a webpage when it doesnt span across the bezels and make me adjust it. Also, the task bar only spans the bottom of the center screen. You can stretch it across all 3 if you want, but eyefinity starts it that wide. Lot of looking left or right across empty space. Lastly, when shutting down it puts any notifications on the center screen (again instead of spanning). Overall, it just feels more refined and thought out. I loved AMD in the 6xxx series, but Nvidia seems to finally be catching up with them in regards to features and ease of use.
  13. Hello all, For anyone interested, I've posted a GTX 680 vs HD6990 thread that benchmarks the two on DCS A-10. Terminal Meltdown thought it might hold an interest here, so the link is: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1427563#post1427563 Thanks, -Phox
  14. 11 Nov 2013: Posted another graphics card comparison, this time the GTX 680 vs R9 290. Check it out here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1926626#post1926626
  15. Hello again, My initial benchmark results are posted on the following thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1427563#post1427563 The results were pretty impressive, give it a look and let me know what ya'll think!
  16. Hi all, I had a HD 6990, and was not getting the performance out of DCS A10 that I expected. After much research, I found out that DCS simply DOES NOT support crossfire. The issue is discussed here, where many people claimed insignificant gains with Xfire, or even worse: negative scaling. The issue was finally addressed by Eagle Dynamics here. Basically, its not supported, nothing we can do, and nothing they can do. When Nevada comes out, maybe it'll have better luck. I was curious how the GTX 680 performed against the 6990 on DCS A10 but couldnt really find any comparisons. I felt confident it would perform better in this particular game, and while the 6990 benched better in most other games, I really only play DCS. I did my ebay research, and was able to get enough $ off the 6990 to switch to the new 680, so thats what I did. In the process, I benchmarked the two to see just what the difference really is. The test setup is in my signature, but the actual bench consisted of the following: Two 1-minute fraps benchmarks of a track specifically saved for this benchmark. I wanted an area with buildings, trees, and mountains in view. This was a setup I knew was hard on the 6990. All special settings on both cards were turned off, or to "application controlled". Part1: Runway start at Senaki-Kolkhi with the TAD and TGP (white hot) on my MFCDs. I didnt pan the view, or move the aircraft at all. Just sat on the runway for one minute. Part2: Right after part 1 ends, I throttle up and take off. 1 minute benchmark begins when the wheel brakes are released. Upon take off, the TGP is slewed to a point on the ground (in the trees). I ran both benchmarks on low, medium, and high graphics settings on both cards. The 6990 was ran with cross fire on, and cross fire off (simulating a single 6970). BTW, the 6990 is on stock voltage, but overclocked to reference 6970 clock speeds. here are the results, with specific settings and gpu usage as seen on MSI afterburner: To put it simply, I was floored. Not only does the GTX 680 stomp my old 6990, but using crossfire actually reduced my frame rates! the 6990 performed worse than a single 6970 would! This was an amazing and worthwhile upgrade in my opinion. The 680 literally doubles the framerates on high settings. Aoh, and the medium benchmark on the GTX 680, i forgot to turn tree distance down to 1500. It was run at 6000. Clearly, your milage will vary. I'm not sure if SLI has the same issue as crossfire or not, so I can't really speak for anyone upgrading from a current NV setup. From the standpoint of anything AMD 6xx0 though, it's a definite improvement. I plan to continue testing with higher settings, mirrors, and FXAA, so stay tuned for more info in the near future. Let me know if you have any questions or comments!
  17. benchmark progress Ok, spent the night doing 6990 benchmarks...here's the idea: Play a track beginning at the end of the runway at Senaki-Kolki (daytime). I have the TAD, and TGP (White hot) on my mfcd's. Benchmark 1: 1 min fraps bench just sitting at the end of the runway. Benchmark 2: 1 min fraps bench of takeoff with the tgp slewed to a point on the ground. Both benches were ran with cross fire off at low, med, and high settings, and again with cross fire on. So 6 runs of the track in total. I'll post the fps results of everything along with specific settings soon as I get the GTX 680 through the benches. Should be sometime Friday, maybe Saturday night. Let me know if there is anything I may be missing, or if there are any other conerns, thanks!
  18. sidewards Hoooo!!! Hey all, I've got a 680 comming in this weekend. Sidegrading from a current 6990. Since DCS scales with xfire so terribly (1 GPU @ 100%, or 2 GPU at 65%), I am expecting a reasonable jump in performance. I've been searching high and low for DCS benchmarks with the new card but havent found one yet so I'll post it here for anyone interested. Plan is to run a fraps benchmark with identicle settigns in a notoriously poor fps area (ramp start in front of many buildings). If anyone has any specific requests let me know by Friday :-) Also, someone mentioned no widescreen (3x monitor) benchies? Hardocp is boss at this, and they have a pretty solid review. No DCS A-10 of course (noone ever does), but they do have several other games that can give you a feel of how it performs in relation to a 7970 on the big resolutions.
  19. Hi there, I've got three things I wanted to say/ask, and I've written them in order of most important to least. First off, Going Ugly is my favorite server by far! Many thanks for running it! 2: Would it be possible to get a download of the missions you rotate? Would like to still be able to play a few of them on SP when the server is full. 3. The server sais it can handle x/16 or some odd players but you can't fly once there are 8 individuals in a cockpit. Basically 9 and up can be observers only. Is this a hard limit of the game or something that can be adjusted higher depending on the mission?
