  1. My BigScreen Beyond HMD has a screen brightness setting. For similar brightness levels, which is better for visual quality and for performance, the DCS gamma setting or BsB brightness?

  2. 2.9.5.55300. Win 11. AGM-56F with Lightning II TGP on Hornet. Single player. MP not tested.

Previous behavior: Sensor control to TGP display, right DDI in this example. Use SA waypoint and WPDSG to point TGP near the target. Designate 1st moving target in TGP PTRK. Sensor control to Mav display (left DDI). Missile slaves to target designated by TGP. When in parameters, release missile. Missile (usually) tracks and hits TGP target. For next target SCS-R to TGP. SCS-R again undesignates target 1 and TGP reticle remains ground stabilized at Target 1 to facilitate designating a second target. Designate target 2. SCS-L to Mav display and second weapon attempts to slave to TGP and lock on target 2. And so on.

New behavior: Designate target and deploy missile on target 1, as above. Now SCS-R and undesignate TGP target 1. TGP reticle snaps back to WPDSG waypoint instead of remaining ground stabilized at target 1. Slew TGP to new target and designate. SCS-L to Mav display; however, Mav seeker DOES NOT slave to new TGP target, but remains fixed to WP. Greatly reduces utility of Mavericks.

One can also observe the HUD TGP cue does not follow the TGP reticle in PTRK. Returning SA to WP navigation (releasing WPDSG) at any point undesignates the TGP target and invokes slaving the TGP reticle to the WP.

    Tracks attached.

  3. Yeah, strange. I do not see the color shift you refer to - only the FOV very edge color shift. Blue-green in the horizontal, red at verticals. Perhaps I won the headset lottery, but I do have old eyes.

  4. Addendum. When looking for the chromatic aberration Kablamoman discussed, I did observe it; however, on my device the effect was so near the FOV limits I had not noticed it previously. I can just say that if upgrading from a G2 the improvement is dramatic. From other devices I cannot comment.

  5. I guess my visual acuity is less sharp than Kablamoman's and/or my standards less high, but, with respect, I offer a somewhat more temporate review of the BigScreen Beyond from his. I came to the BsB from a G2 and have never experienced the visuals the Index provides. Admittedly, the BsB has a small FOV, but I estimate that the center 50% is usable for reading instruments in DCS cockpits. I also had to endure the inconvenience of exchanging the HMD for a smaller IPD unit. The face gasket, however, fit perfectly and comfortably with no light leaks whatsoever. I confess that I have not noticed the chromatic aberrations Kablamoman discusses, nor the glare others have complained about, and found the screen brightness, and of course the resolution, significantly better than that of the G2 and the total FOV quite comparable. I can understand how an ill-fitting face gasket could affect the apparent screen brightness. My high performance PC with the BigScreen Beyond delivers a steady 75 fps at quite high DCS visual settings.

In summary it is different strokes for different folks, I guess, and everyone's visual perception is different. Your mileage may vary.

  6. For flight simmers a good DCS VR experience is unequaled. Settings for DCS VR will be dictated by your GPU, CPU, RAM and personal quality tolerance. You obviously need to adjust your seat position more forward. Have fun playing with settings to find YOUR sweet spot. Guess you got a good gasket and IPD fit.

  7. I have been using BsB HMD for couple of weeks and am very happy with the device. I use Quadviews fixed foviated rendering and 75 FPS setting. Excellent performance with DCS on a high-end PC: brightness, colors, sharpness, view smoothness with 2 base stations. Good clarity over about 50% of total FOV. Cost with required peripherals is admittedly pretty pricey, and a number of users, including yours truly, have needed to exchange headsets for corrected face gaskets and IPD, which is fixed on each device. The BsB support is great, however, and after getting the right fit the device is a marvel.

  8. I am using SFVR with SteamVR and the FSVR data panel is attached to my Valve controller until the controller powers off, at which time the panel relocates to the bottom left of my VR FOV. Can anyone assist me with instructions on how to change the data panel position in my VR FOV?

  9. 2.9.3.51704 Still can not get XRNecksafer to work. Made sure XRNecksafer API layer is first listed API and ON in SteamVR settings, started VRNecksafer both before and after DCS is running. When I engage assigned centering button (tried several), the "Not centered in game" message remains displayed.

  10. Update: Since last posting a month ago regarding the BigScreen Beyond I have received headset replacement -3 mm from original IPD and thicker face gasket to address my eyelash contact with the lenses issue. All good. Encouraged, I took the plunge and performed a PC part upgrade to 7800 3DX, 64 GB RAM and RTX 4090.

I am still performance tweaking, but am very happy with my BsB experience flying DCS. With pumped up DCS performance options to high settings, quad view fixed FR, and OXR am getting visuals that rival my 32 inch QHD monitor at a steady 75 FPS in single player with no stutters. Huge improvement over the G2. Will be flying MP soon and will be testing 90 FPS. I really notice no glare and sweet spot is large enough to satisfy me. And oc the tiny form factor is a major plus. Lots of complaints about the head strap, but I don't find it a major problem. In March BsB will be offering for purchase an improved head strap with earphones. Biggest issue people post about on Discord is getting the correct custom IPD headset. According to BsB, about 10% of headsets are returned for corrected IPD, since the headset has no IPD adjustment. BsB tho, is very lenient and accommodating in providing free replacements; but still tries one's patience. Definitely worth considering if one is looking for a new headset IMO. BsB, and its supporting equipment, is an expensive piece of gear, but once you get it right, it is really right.
