  1. Well for now, I'm going to try and form a group of guys/gals to fly in DCS BS with. I've posted my interest on the FSX forum as well. As mentioned, I'm not looking for something serious, more casual, fun type flying, blowing things up etc, and especially learning with fellow pilots also interested in the BS. Keep in mind I'm a nooby, but I think cooperative learning could be a blast and help promote the curve a bit quicker! If anyone is interested, my forum is at: fsx-multiplayer-meetandgreet.com. I also have my own TS server. Stop on by and let me know if you're interested. I might have other members of the forum interested as well, but just put up the post today. I guess if I'd known ahead of time I could have chosen a domain name more fitting to other sims as well. Oh well, hindsight is always 20/20. :D
  2. Hahah.. yea that game to.. :) I should elaborate.. I use TrackIR, so when I get out of game (after playing it for a while) I feel like I still have to keep my head centered otherwise the display on my monitors will turn on me..
  3. Hi AtaliaA1, Well I currently already run an FSX Multiplayer meet up forum and I have considered finding pilots to fly with in DCSBS via the forum as well. Although the forum does not advertise DCS on the surface, I have a section dedicated to flying other sims in where I have mentioned the BS. Its new and has a small group of memebers, but I'm hopeful over time it will become established. ;) If I'm unable to find a fit anywhere, I may just try to incorporate a squad over at the forums. Cheers, Brandon
  4. Ah yes good point! I'm in the U.S. Denver, CO. Timezone here is MDT.
  5. When you get out of the game and everything on your monitor still appears to be moving.
  6. Hey everyone, Just picked up DCS BS a few days ago and have been spending hours in the sim learning as much as I can. I've already got the start up procedures down for the Shark, and have created a few missions solely for training purposes. Today I've spent pretty much the entire day reading, watching vids and going through the shooting range mission to learn how to use the weapons. My flying skills are still meh (as I'm guessing they will be for a while)! I'm getting the auto-hover and trim down, but still have difficulty here and there, especially when lining up to shoot targets. There is still tons I need to learn and keys I need to get setup (though I've got a fair amount already setup on my X-65). Thus far I still need to go through the ABBRIMS and learn navigation. I do have about a year in FSX, so I'm not totally noobish when it comes to understanding flight plans, VORs', NDB's, VFR, IFR, ILS landings etc/however am completely new to helis...lol I've been reading around the forum and noticed there are quite a few squadrons (Squadron Directory). With so many out there its tough to choose who to contact. I suppose I can query as many as possible but thought I might get some info here first. I'm basically looking to form up with a group of people to learn the DCS BS with and eventually get into some multiplayer action. The downside (if you can call it so), is that I have only two days per week avail .. Mondays and Tuesdays. Both days I host FSX multiplayer sessions for about an hour, maybe two at the most, but am free after that, usually around 2 or 3pm afterwards. I'm not looking for any, 'alarm clock', ops if you will, just a fun, helpful and friendly environment to enjoy flying the Shark with others. If anyone knows of a good group to seek out/contact, let me know. Cheers, Brandon
  7. Hey Yurgon, thanks for your response. I can definitely tell the difference between game and real mode, thats for sure.. lol. Compartively speaking, yes, the heli flies much easier in game mode. Interestingly, my rudder commands don't seem to have as much authority in real mode as it did in game mode. But it could be I'm missing some added controls since making the switch to real. I didn't know about Rcntrol + enter to display controls, this will come in very handy as I learn to fly this bird. Just learning what all the shortcut key commands are is pretty overwhelming at this stage, but I'm sure is to be expected. On setting the null zone, it helped by not moving the heli forward after starting the engines. And, as you witnessed in my track, I had difficulty settling the bird down after landing. And probably due to trim which seems to be more effective in real mode as it didn't appear to do anything for me in game mode. The X-65 is a great flight set up to have, and much more precise than the $20 ST290 that I had. ;) Having profile settings for various phases of flight really makes things easier. I'll have to double check the, 'cyclic stick', category just to see if my setting in wheel parking was accurate, b/c for the life of me Lshift+W didn't do anything for me in game mode, but it sure works in real mode!
  8. Haha..missed ya by a few minutes. Yes, I'm staying in real mode from now on. I think both modes had me pretty confused.
  9. Hey MVSGAS, You're right, I was still in game mode as I later figured out how to actually switch modes. For the KA-50 Game mode, there is only the wheel brake option which has the, 'W', key assigned. And for the KA-50 Real mode, there is the wheel brake and the Wheel brake parking option. (Wheel brake with, 'W', assigned and Wheel brake parking with, 'Lshft+W', assigned) Once I switched over to the, 'real mode', everything worked as it should. (including figuring out the trim system) ;) Interesting there is no wheel brake parking option in the game mode. Needless to say, I think I'll be staying in the real mode from now on and learning from there! Thanks again for taking the time to go over that track and answering my questions.
  10. Ok, so looks like creating the null zone got me up and running. I also switched over to regular sim mode. I'm still confused however, as hitting Lshift+W doesn't set the brake. I have verified the correct key combo under options. By the way -- you guys are quick. I really appreciate all the help. :D Got the track saved. colddark.trk
  11. Hey MVSGAS, matter of fact I did assign my throttle to the collective, so I'll cycle through it before starting the APU - great idea! I'm not sure what you mean by Track, sorry I'm as green as green gets with this sim. My only experience is with FSX.
  12. Well still no joy. I have noticed however that when looking at the options menu for arcade mode, there is no, 'wheel parking brake', only, 'wheel brake', which has the, 'W', key assigned to it. In the real sim mode, I can find the wheel parking brake and the wheel brake options and in fact the wheel parking brake does have W+Lshft assigned to it. But because I'm in arcade mode I can only assume I have the option of only using the wheel brake and not the wheel parking brake? I've also noticed, the brake is already set when starting out (as I've created a mission where I can simply learn to perform the cold dark starts). But as the 2nd engine comes alive, the bird begind moving forward. I've got the Saitek X-65, so I'll create a little bit null zone for the, 'y', axis as that is initially whats moving me forward once the engines get ramped up and see if that works.
  13. I'll give that a shot. Thanks Migo! :D
  14. Hello all, Well to date I've been fairly successful getting this awesome bird started, but I'm missing something and cant' seem to find the answer, hence why I'm here. Once I get the blades spinning and engine started, the BS starts moving forward. I've used the, 'W', key for the wheel brake which of course stops it, but once released begins moving again and I can't complete the rest of the procedures with the thing taxiing all over the place on me.. lol. I've also checked my collective which is all the way down. I've made sure by using the, 'A', key. I've also made sure throttle was all the way down by using the, 'page dn', key. I've been through the key commands in game and through the manuals and can't seem to find a parking brake. Does one exist? I've watched a few youtube vids, but none that I've seen even mention setting a parking brake prior to going through the normal startup procedures. If it makes any difference, I'm starting out with this sim in arcade mode. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Brandon
