  1. The textures in itself look great, and might even look better than stock DCS 2.0 eventually. But your mod is suffering from the same issue that Toby23's mod is, it doesn't blend in with the rest of the ground textures very well.. Perhaps something can be done about that?

  2. A topic on scaling of aircraft (and maybe even ground units, can't recall) has already been made and no official respone has been given in that topic. Also, it is not on the official feature list for DCS 2. I think you know what that means, for now...

  3. ED SIMS SCREENSHOT THREAD!!!!

Jacob, in the shots in the above posts #11272 and #11273, what combination of effects mods and settings are you using there? If SweetFX is among them, could you indicate which version of SweetFX (e.g. 1.5.1) and add or paste your settings file.

These shots look like I might try out your settings.. I like how daylight/sunlight is making the overall scene less colourful but it might be too white-ish to work with.

  4. You don't have to wait for hours and hours.. Last time I checked I could download with an average of 17 MB/s, both via the downloader of my browser and via the ingame module manager using the updater.exe.

Perhaps you tried to download at a point where half of ED's customers was downloading because a new patch was just released?

  5. as mentioned above and you can also send text messages.
And in addition to sending a text message you can also send the target message in a way you'd recieve from the AI JTAC. This way the receiver will receive an attack order which he/she can accept or cancel. Take note though, the elevation of the target as given in the attack message is bugged right now so you'll have to manually adjust it.
  6. Not to go off topic but recently I keep stumbling upon posts about the "new F-5" with a lot of people hinting at a new module one way or another. I've never seen or read anything about an F-5, did I miss something?

  7. the A-10A doesn't carry the Litening Pod, that's the difference of A-10C, only the C version carry it, A-10A not. I want to know, how I can identify the A-10A empty.
I'd rather not use that assumption because you could stumple upon an image of a test platform A with a TGP on it. Instead, the C has a small dome on the back behind the canopy (GPS antenna) and a T-shaped wing, also on the back behind the canopy.

The C: T-shaped wing clearly visible

The A: clearly no T-shaped wing present

  8. I use Target anyway, so assigning a key combo to the TIR functions works fine for me. Most programmable mice should also allow for that to be done as well.
After I've installed TARGET (to turn OFF the LEDs, nothing else) it seems TIR accepts a joystick button as input. It didn't when TARGET wasn't installed. Guess I don't need JoyToKey anymore. Thanks for reminding me to try again. :)
  9. You can but, there is a gotcha. TIR doesn't distinguish between devices. If you have multiple controllers sending DX and you assign TIR center to DX1 from 'Joystick 1', then every controller that sends a DX1 signal will center your TIR.
Last time I checked TIR software doesn't let you map joystick buttons at all. I have to remap HOTAS throttle MIC switch UP to an unused keyboard key using JoyTokey and map that keyboard key in the TIR software...
  10. I would say an i5 would be just fine, you don't really see benefits in gaming from an i7 vs an i5.
I'd like you to support that statement with benchmark results from ingame tests (no synthetic tests please). Not to annoy you, but I really can't agree with this.

Oh and before this thread ends up in the newer = better battle, I'd like to say I'm taking the bang-for-buck ratio into account when stating my arguments, focused on gaming.

  11. First of all, this one is going to get moved to the hardware section, but I don't mind you posting this here.

Second, we don't know how DCS World 2 will respond to different kinds of hardware so either you buy what you want/can afford now, or you wait until DCS 2 final (that is: not ALPHA/BETA) is released.

Third, I'd still go for a 4th generation Intel i7 because the 5th generation is generally aimed towards more cores and less Hz per core. The 4th generation in general has less cores and more Hz/core. Most games can not make use of more than 2 cores so naturally you want the highest power per core instead of more cores. A good example of a CPU for gaming purposes would be the 4790K. Stock 4.0Ghz, stock boost 4.4Ghz, OC'd 4.7Ghz. Some say they reach 4.8Ghz OC-ing but those are the exception.

  12. Full screen mode is still not possible and I see no chance to solve this problem. The reason is the additional Aries radio panel, which must be visible all the time on top of the DCS screen. In full screen mode, the entire window z-order is under control of the DCS application. The Aries panel is not usable anymore. In difference to older DCS version, the program does not crash if started with Aries in full screen mode. There would be some black magic possible if I would hack the internal DirectX function scheduler. But this would interfere the DCS program code which must be prevented in the interest of the software creator.

BTW, all damaged trees are removed and we are in a good health with the exception, that my body is stiff by all this lumberjack work.

Maybe I'm saying something stupid now but I've been using your Aries with DCS in full screen mode for as long as I am using it...?
