Thats not really a fair statement, mostly because Black Ops and the MW line are starting to wear themselves out. Take into account of BF3, Crysis 3, and any recently released titles for PC only before announcing a decline in PC gamers. I agree the pc gaming is closely coming to an end, but its still technically a long way off. I suggest waiting for GTA5 to be released before judgement is passed.Do you own a smart phone? Do you use all of its functions?Btw, those 'millions' of other gamers is a shrinking market.
For example, COD Black Ops sales as of 6 months ago were about 8.4 million units. Less than half a million of those were for the PC.

Haswell is a Intended Mobile Architecture , so .. There's a reason all the reviews are bashing it.
and it's sad, when a INTEL Biased website bashes the Haswell chips.
I find that funny with a 33% increase in performance in FSX when compared to a 2600k. But we'll see.
-
On other hand, its still up in the air. Ill see if I need one after overclocking this, but Ive heard this chip doesnt need more than 1v to get to 5ghz. I shall see. If I do, Ill wind up with the ax1050.
-
If you don't mind my asking, considering the horsepower and investment you have, why would you not throw another $50 at your PSU and get an AX series?
Because that means I have to spend another 200 dollars on this thing. Im already thinking about getting a 1050w, but from all the wattage calculations Ive ran, I dont need anything more than what I already have. Im upgrading from a 2600k, not intending to build a brand new computer.

Looks like this weekend Ill be able to quote some new figures. Got the parts, just backing up the hard drives now...only 2 more packages of bluray disks to go.
New rig looks like:
Haswell 4770k
Asus Sabertooth z87
Corsair H100i
16gb Corsair Vengeance DDR3 12800
eVGA GTX680 4096
Corsair tx750 psu
OCZ Agility 3 SSD
3x WD Black in RAID-0
Anyone who doesnt know yet, old socket cooling fan post hole patterns 2011 and 1155 will fit socket 1150. They are the same 75mm hole spread.

Hi,
I am a huge fan of the DCS Series. Spent many hours in the A-10, the Shark and the Huey.
I am really looking forward to the Mig-21, as it has a radar and a little more A2A capabilites than the A-10.
However, to pass the time, is it a good idea to buy FC3? I mean the F-15 looks great, altought it isn't high fiedelity.
I enjoy starting up the A-10 and doing flights realisticly as far as a simulation allows. Will FC 3 be fun too? What do you think?
Best regards,
Jonathan
If you want, shoot me a PM and Ill see what I can do for ya.

Ah, americans... ;)
Just so you know: Ubisoft only offers this to US customers. If your IP is non-US, no-go.
Why? Ask Ubisoft, I have no clue.
Or he can ask someone who would be willing to buy it for him and send him a USB thumb drive with the installer files on it. Its not like I have 3-4 disks laying around, Im not going to use the download installer for anything. $9 for LOMAC and a $5 thumb drive cant possibly be considered a major purchase.

Im not dead set on it yet. I have too much stuff on the hard drives to back up to want to tear apart the chassis right now, and I might just buy the stuff and keep them in the box for another 2-3 weeks. Not to mention an awful lot of payware stuff for FSX that needs to be reset, DCS stuff that needs to be deactivated, ghost turds cleaned out of the case....

I would like to know what your experiences with it are so far. I might upgrade today, but Microcenter doesnt open up until 11, and Im not exactly sure if they are doing a huge sale on the LGA1150 processors or the LGA1155 IB-e processors.
Edit: I take that back. Microcenter has a great deal on the LGA1150 sockets, selling the 4770k for $269, over 100 bucks off retail.
-
Okay thanks Jona. That sucks. I can't find any website where LOMAC is sold as a download version.

You're welcome.

Could it be something to do with the cold?
Cold weather aids in facilitating lift. Its cold, denser air, not to mention it helps the engine attain higher compression ratios.

Have you seen this thread to fix the blades flying off at start?
No, but Im looking now, and I dont really see anything relevant to fixing that problem for myself. I will take a look in my settings though, see if there are other axises that are assigned to something that shouldnt be assigned to it. Edit: just looked, didnt see anything set incorrectly that would throw the blades immediately. I can have my throttle and collective pulled back to idle at the very beginning of the mission with the controller synced, and still toss blades. Its infuriating to say the least.

I experienced trim issue in Huey (just a few minutes ago in MP mission) and Ka-50.
In my opinion and observation; If you turn Central Position Trimmer Mode on, the problem is not to come back to really center after trimming. I mean if you set deadzone, it will be easy and faster to work controls again. Because DCS wants your cyclic to see center point first. Then allows you to continue to use controls.
So, I don't use Central Position Trimmer Mode anymore.
I can only replicate this problem in the Ka-50. In the Huey its different; the helicopter will fly at the last speed, heading, attidude and vertical speed until it hits terrain...then it will follow the terrain until the aircraft stick is responsive again, then explode. Kinda like this series of screenshots.
-
Even further testing revealed that the Huey does NOT have this particular trim glitch the Ka-50 has, nor have I successfully repeated the trim bug I have experienced from time to time. Maybe it was fixed in the previous update unknowingly because I havent experienced it in almost a week now. I will post a track immediately after it happens -if it happens again- next time.
Here is the latest track - me testing the trim button with the stick purposefully uncentered immediately after trim. 100% of the time the stick was responsive immediately after my joystick was returned to center. 100% of the time my aircraft was unresponsive until after I returned my stick to center. Not once did I have to hit the trim reset button to regain control, unlike in the Ka-50. Again, nothing about my flying or my settings has changed.
-
After further testing, Ive noticed that it is indeed bugged in the Ka-50 as well.
In both of these tracks, I left the stick purposely uncentered every time when I was stable and high enough to play with the aircraft. Almost all of the time (not every time), the stick and rudder are dead frozen until the stick is returned to center. 9 out of 10 times did the stick respond after returning the stick to center. The 1 time out of 10, the stick and rudder did not respond at all, no matter what position the stick and rudder were at when I untrimmed the aircraft. I knew I wasnt crazy. I am still trying to replicate the problem in the Huey, but this one is few and far between.
Just to disspell any doubts that my stick is the problem, I have thoroughly tested my stick.
TM Warthog - stick was just greased this weekend with EM-30L Molycote as per this thread here

Stick tested in Windows 7 using Joystick Calibration (everything centered)
Stick to Center box tick-marked in DCS
No futher mods

Apologies, I have not got to this sooner. I don't have the track in front of me so I am typing from memory.
I watched your track and can pretty much see that what you are experiencing is being caused by your controls not being returned to centre. You were in a very dynamic manoeuvre at the time with your rudders moving at the time that it occurred. Also you used a very quick single click trim command while still moving the controls.
I recommend you follow my advice about checking calibration of your controls and adding a deadzone. The problem will go away. I had the exact same issues with an old X-52.
Also, as an aside. Unless your stick is force feedback, the method for trimming that a lot of people (including myself) have adopted is to press and hold the trim button while performing the manoeuvre, and then release the button, then centre your controls. If you do a search of the forum you will find a lot of advice on this.
Again, please check your control calibration that windows is recognising that your joystick and rudders are registering as returned to centre and add deadzones to your axis in DCS:W.
Good luck.
This is the bug you were referring to in the -50. The bug Im referring to is in the Huey. Ive stated more than once that the bug is 100% completely different than the bug I have shown here, and I will post that track when it happens again. Even then, I have tested this a few times - you can move the controls with the trim button depressed and/or off center, and these controls are frozen completely.

Anyone having an issue with the ribbon cable binding up, you can unscrew and pull on the female connector pin that connects the stick and the ball to facilitate tautening the ribbon cable. You can insert the ball and set the pins in, and reinsert the outer hull, then push the ribbon cable through to keep it from binding up on anything internal. Didnt see anyone mention that in this thread, so I thought I would.
-
Not hearing much from anyone telling me its a centering issue now, so either A) Im stupid and its pointless to keep at it, or B) it actually is a bug. Be nice to know which...
-
And here is a track file that shows you that I know how to use the trim properly AND fly properly.
-
Ok here is one for the Ka-50. Im mainly concerned for the Huey since its more severe than this, as I cant recover from it. In the -50 I can. This is just a me-screwin'-around-to prove someone wrong track so dont judge the flying.
Towards the end of the flight, Ive centered the stick and rudder, and then pushing both pedals in and out repeatedly for 1 whole minute, as well as giving 100% play on the cyclic in a full 360. Nothing for one whole minute (or whatever). When it happens in the Huey, I will post another track, and it is totally different from this bug in the Ka-50, which is what Ive been trying to explain to everyone for the last 3 pages. Again, one last time, in the Huey, the only tick box I have ticked is the centered stick box, and the rudder is unlinked in the H-1.
-
I dont know why I have to keep repeating myself. Ive been flying Black Shark since it first came out. In russian. 5 years ago. Im pretty sure I know how to use the trim function by now.
When it happens again -and it will- I will post a track file. I know "full well" what you are talking about. This bug I am referring to IS NOT A CENTERING ISSUE.

What do you currently use as a main monitor? If at any point you have plans to upgrade or replace it, you could just consider buying a large touchscreen monitor and kill two birds with one stone. I briefly toyed with the idea of getting one myself, but ultimately decided on 27" IPS display. http://www.newegg.com/Touchscreen-Monitors/SubCategory/ID-514
A Samsung LED 27" monitor on HDMI. Ive been thinking of getting a second monitor, but really hard up for space on this desktop.

Porky_pig...
What is most likely happening here is that your stick is not returning to centre properly. It may physically be returning to centre but sometimes if the pots are dirty or if the calibration has drifted the software reads it as slightly off centre putting it outside the zone that DCS World accepts as being centred.
There are a couple of ways to fix this...
1) Recalibrate your stick using the windows calibration software in the game controllers section of your system settings. This will also give you a handy little graphic to check that you are are getting a proper return to centre.
2) Set a small deadzone for all your axis in DCS world. That can help smooth out a slightly cranky stick.
3) You can increase the size that DCS:W accepts as being centred. I can't remember off the top of my head how to. But a forum search will reveal it I'm sure.
You should also check that if you have rudder pedals attached that you aren't resting your foot heavier on one side causing an input that throws the centre position off. Also in controls setting unbind all axis that you aren't using so that you don't get inputs from things that also may throw it off.
I have had this exact problem with an old x52 that was a bit sloppy around the centre position and would refuse to properly return to centre. I fixed it with a combination of method 2 and method 3.
But just to be clear... this is not a bug. The central position mode will lock the controls solid until it detects ALL control axis are at the central position. If DCS:W never detects a valid centring of the axis due to bad calibration, centre slop, or insufficient deadzone it will do exactly as you have described.
Go and try the things I have suggested. Or uncheck central position mode, which will still trim the helo as it pauses control input momentarily to allow you to manually centre your controls yourself.
I can 100% guarantee you, following the above advice and the advice of others in this thread will resolve your issue.
Good luck.
Goddamnit. Does anyone actually read? One last time. My joystick is centered. The trim button was previously clicked. I KNOW THE AIRCRAFT STICK WILL NOT WORK UNTIL IT IS CENTERED. Ive known this for quite a while now. The aircraft freezes. DOES NOT WORK. When I am unlucky enough to get the bug again, Ill post a track. Thanks.
Haswell released today
in PC Hardware and Related Software

OK. First few flights in DCS on this Haswell seem to fair out pretty good so far. I have the fps capped at 30, and it pretty much stayed there with or without FRAPS recording. Did a fast test in the Huey on the gunnery range, and the only time the fps dropped below 25 was when a tank exploded - and I just happened to be right next to it. Wasnt much of an improvement, as I regularly had 30fps capped with the 2600k, but it didnt stutter as much with FRAPS running. In FSX I saw a HUGE difference, and this tells me that DCS is more GPU driven than I once thought it was..
