  1. +1

Just watched the video of the new ATHOS sight for the Gazelle, and it looks so much better than the sight overlay of the Hind. Let's hope ED can improved on this.

As for the sight position being weird for trackIR users, that can easily be fixable by adding a default snapview looking through the periscope.

  2. Just installed 2.7.6 Stable on another drive to test against 2.7.7 Open Beta.

Created a mission without moving units, to make sure everything would be at the same spots during all the tests.

    2.7.6 Stable:

Mi-24P Ramp hot start with MIRRORS ON: 36 FPS

Mi-24P Ramp hot start with MIRRORS OFF: 44-46 FPS

    2.7.7 Open Beta:

Mi-24P Ramp hot start with MIRRORS ON: 28-29 FPS

Mi-24P Ramp hot start with MIRRORS OFF: 34-36 FPS

Exactly the same graphics/game settings for both versions. Waited at least a minute for the FPS to stabilize!

    Specs: GTX 1060 6GB, 32GB 1866Mhz DDR3, Core i5 4670k @4.2ghz

  3. You must not try other games then. Path of Exile, Tarkov, Bannerlord, Skyrim, Fallout, hell I started my software development career with Ultima Online, a 1997 game and that community is still going strong...

Having 5k hours in Path of Exile, I think I can say that their community is pretty similar to ours lol. Every 3-4 months PoE comes out with a new league (which is basically a mini-expansion) and everytime the community's complaints are the same "These devs don't have QA. Performance is crap. I can't wait until PoE has some competition."

Also, Path of Exile had a pretty rough begining since it's closed alpha in 2011 with lots and lots of bugs, very clunky gameplay and incredibly bad netcode.

The only reason this game triumphed was because of a VERY hardcore and stubborn community that enjoyed these challenges, and kept playing/having fun despite all the issues.

So people would come to Twitch to see what PoE was all about, and they'd see those hardcore streamers having tons of fun, and feeling super rewarded by doing something cool or a difficult content, and the player base kept growing ever since.

So, IMHO the similarities are all there. DCS players are as passionate/hardcore if not more, albeit less numerous.

The Ultima Online example summarizes perfectly how DCS World is tied up to it's community. Both UO and Flanker are from the mid 90s (Flanker is from 1995 if I remember correctly). While UO's community slowly dwindled with it's development; Flanker kept evolving: Flanker 2.0, LO:MAC, Flaming Cliffs (expansion for LOMAC), Flaming Cliffs 2 (self-published by ED), Black Shark (that later integrated into FC2) and it all culminated with DCS World, that since it's inception in 2012(or 11?) has had a growing playerbase with each update or new module. In that point I agree with Wags/Nineline. I've been gaming since the 90s, and I can't remember of a company with such a long history of steady improvements and community growth tied up together.

@Mods: Sorry for talking about other games in such length, but I felt I could give my 2 cents about Wags' and Nineline's statements.

That being said, I agree with all the other stuff you've pointed out @Jabbers.

Valve's EA definition is pretty clear to me. Unless it's feature complete it's still in EA. So, a more honest solution would be to delay the Hornet's release to 2021.

  4. I can understand some less used weapons or features to be pushed to 2021 like the Firebomb and Decoy, but IMHO these should be part of the EA release:

ATFLIR, INS/GPS simulation, complete HOTAS functions, MUMI page, Jamming Targets on Radar, Flight member TGT on SA page.

AC Setup Data Card is super important too, but I understand that it needs a core change to really shine, like editing waypoints on the briefing or aircraft rearm screens in multiplayer.

    Stay safe!

  5. Hey!

While I'm away from my HOTAS, I've been using my Xbox360 wireless controller to fly in DCS.

I've noticed that with this controller, both left and right triggers are set as separate axis in-game, labeled "Left Trigger" and "Right Trigger" making it impossible to use them as rudder.

I checked the "Game Controllers" screen on Windows 10, and there it shows both triggers as just 1 axis, so I don't know why DCS is treating RT and LT as 2 separate axis.

    Is there a solution?

PS: I also have a Wired version of the Xbox360 controller, and while using it, DCS sees RT and LT as a single axis. So this bug just affects the Wireless version.

  6. This happens when the laser stops firing and the range is being calculated by the INU. For example, if you range a target that's like 7km away, and you slew the Shkval a little bit to the right and the range drops to 3km, the Shkval will start slewing down since it will think the target is much closer than it really is and will compensate for the wrong ranging at current closure rate.

Also, sometimes this happens even if you don't slew the Shkval after you lase. If you're flying erratically with lots of speed/altitude changes, the INU will miscalculate the distance to target and the Shkval will start drifting away from it.

I don't know if this is the correct behavior IRL but that's how it's been working since BS2 got released.

  7. Congrats on the announcement, Leatherneck! Looking forward to flying the Fishbed! :D

Sorry if this has been answered before, but will the Mig-21 come with DCS 2.0/EDGE as it was previously stated on ED's facebook?

  8. The announcement of the F-15C and Su-27SM being FC3-level first and DCS-level later doesn't mean I've "lost" anything, and doesn't leave me disappointed. If anything it gives me more awesome simming to look forward to!

I don't think we're getting the SM variant, since Wags said cockpits/3D models/sounds would be the same as the ones in FC3 :(

  9. I wonder if the 20 testers they had online were in the same game, or if I'm totally getting the wrong end of the stick.

20 in once game strikes me as fairly large for this series, but I've not played online that much.

Yesterday the 104th public server had more than 20 guys online, but my game crashed like 2 times in a row :(. Sometimes I fly for hours without freezing, yesterday was a bad day in that regard :P
