    So I haven't played DCS in a good while, maybe 6 months.

    I thought I fancied some flying so I strap on my dusty Track IR , boot to Windows and i'm off.

    Soon enough i'm crashing Ka-50s like a bad boy in single player.

     

    Then I want to play with a friend.

    I realise I have version 1.2.7.xxxxxx.

    He has 1.2.8.xxxxxx

    I have the open beta installed which is 1.2.8.xxxxxx but it's still a few versions higher than his so probably wouldn't work online?

    His version came down from an auto update. My auto updater doesn't update anything when I use the updater from my 1.2.7.xxxxxxx install note the open beta.

     

     

    I think GAH DARN IT!!! I just want to play.

    Ok maybe i'll just reinstall everything.

     

    Then I realise I have to download 6 files from the download page just for DCS world.

    Then Download the KA50 upgrade version for my Black Shark steam purchase which would also need downloading and installing again from steam.

     

    The SU-25 module, the MI8MTV2 module, A10c, A10a, Huey, and the stang.

    Then i'd have to install them all and probably use yet another bunch of licence keys which I would have to dig out.

     

    Then I have to redo all of my keymaps, but wait I could just copy over my current ones but then i'm thinking I have to go search around for the correct folders and files.

    Then there is my custom missions which would also be the same issue.

     

    I just kinda give up :no expression:

     

    It's soul destroying.

    That makes it sound like we are going to have to pay for completely new modules when EDGE comes out.

     

    No it doesn't

    I makes it sound like we're going to have to pay for Nevada if we didn't buy the A10c Beta.

    Either way, this is a niche market.

    You want these guys to make this stuff, we gotta give them food.....

     

    I think Waggs is buying the new iPhone, so thats why he's having a whip round with the sale ;)

    Does the paper come with a free scenery upgrade? of the Nevada variety?

     

    Am I the only one who is old enough to remember being told that early adopters of A10C would get a free upgrade?

    I actually understand what your saying.

    Seeing the Mi8MTV2 on sale is strange. I'm not going to argue though.

    Learn the lesson and hold off for a sale ;)

    It's weird a Beta goes on sale though......like I say, I an't complaining!

    I've been turning down settings for the last couple of weeks trying to get a really smooth frame rate and still make it look good.

    then today I just put everything on high and went from no MSAA to 8x MSAA in 2560x1440 on a GeForce 680mx in my imac.......the frame rate is no worse than with all the goodies turned off.

    I couldn't believe what I'd been missing out on.

    I figured it was realistic to assume the engines poor CPU utilisation wouldn't effect GPU effect like MSAA or HDR.

     

    What I found interesting was watching what cores the game were running off on my i7 3770 3.4/3.9 CPU .

    I tried assigning trackir to a core the game wasn't using. The game changes which cores it uses each time you start it up. Maybe I just got lucky today?

    I mean it looks great and runs superbly now.

    Just wondered , whats the done thing for you guys.

    For a long time I have been using Track IR with the lean forward as my zoom.

     

    Now, i'm not so sure it's so great.

    It's sure handy for spotting targets but can be annoying when you get fish eye.

    Maybe i'll put the zoom onto a Mouse Wheel or assign it to a button or axis or key perhaps?

     

    I just wondered what you guys did, every time I see a video online, their head tracking looks better than mine lol

     

    Also do you guy use different pre sets for different aircraft?

    Controls are 50% of the game for me. I spend hours and hours fine tutning the controls.

    The best we can do I guess is get together.....write out in paper or in digital form, our maps.

    Then allow people to download a preset.

    I might try this and put something up on my web site or something

     

    I have a Cyborg FLY 5 and I use 5 of the buttons for modifier butons or shift keys.

    One for CMS

    One for Weapons

    One random stuff , aircraft specific

    One For autopilot and navigation

    One for trim and extended controls.

    WTH happened to the load times?

    I use a Corsair Force 3 SSD (and 8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 RAM) and the loading times are horrible in 1.2.6. Not as bad as for the o.p. but about twice as long as in 1.2.5. I also have problems with clickable buttons not responding on the briefing screen etc.

     

    The Corsair Force 3 isn't that good as it uses asynchronous NAND , but it' still an SSD.

    I run the game off a standard hard drive . I have a fusion drive in my iMac. Does take a while to load but nothing I can't wait for I guess.

     

    As for the briefing window not responding, last night I realised the old ' no mouse cursor clicks work unless you ALT TAB out and ALT TAB back in' bug was back.

    What to do next?

    To be honest if you can't be bothered with the fuss of having to buy lock on modern air combat to then get flaming cliffs I suggest just buying the Su 25 3D cockpit version and the A10a ,both from flaming cliffs.

     

    Then I would decide to go for a chopper and get the black shark , which is still my favourite.

    thats a bummer. It get real complicated and drawn out and I always I make mistakes.

    I've been doing copy and paste for a while but I always end up forgetting to change some settings here and there.

    The cold starts become the warm etc...seen it online too.

     

    Anyway ,enough rambling. Thanks anyway.

    Hi.

     

    What I want to do is have a spawn for almost every module aircraft with a hot and cold variant.

    So 2 Su-25t cold, 2x Su-25t hot, 2x A10c cold, 2x A10c hot....etc etc etc

     

    Once i've done this for all the controllable aircraft I want to group them all together and have the ability to just drop the group into any of the airports I choose.

     

    Is this even possible?
