  1. We need more red pilots :)

To the guys who fly F15's - you need opoosition as well. And if you really want to fly fast movers I'd advise some of you to learn how to fly a SU-27 just in case, otherwise the fighter slots will be limited to 2 per side as in current sign ups since they need to be even number. I know red is not as appealing but we need some balance here :)

  2. What would you guys say if we made this event twice a week, for example the additional day could be Sunday and a bit earlier, like 17-18 Zulu?

Wednesday is a difficult time for some people I know (work etc.) and who would like to take part, on the other hand some of you guys can't make it on Sunday probably. But if we made the event twice a week I guess it would suit both groups?

    What is your opinion?

  3. What KukY said. I also like the integration into DCS world a lot and the way interacions between different FC3 planes, A10C, KA50 and Su25 can be set. You can finally have missions with player fast mover support or nice team vs team games using all kinds of aircraft.

Even with the simpler flight model compared to DCS the planes are still fun to fly and fill the fast mover gap nicely.

  4. Awesome mission yesterday, I had a lot of fun shooting down F15s and A10's - although I was surprised that F15 didn't shoot radar missiles back and had to close the distance for sidewinders. Only later did I learn Aim7's were bugged for them :)

Anyway, great fun yesterday and it's awesome to see so many human pilots in the air, all cooperating and with a purpose. Server stability was very good as well, I think some connection bugs were fixed since last week and the framerates were very good as well.

I definately look forward towards the next week's event :)

  5. It was an awesome evening. I'm really glad the server was stable and the framerates very playable. Also happy to see the whole concept evolve all the time.

    @JaBoG32T Butcher

You can set up whisperlists and hotkeys on Teamspeak to contact different channels, for example as ground commander last week I had set the hotkeys to speak to different squadrons individually. You can also set your list to be able to speak to the commander, air support, other KA squadron etc. Works the same as TARS this way, you speak to different channels separately and without having to leave your channel, except that you don't get simulated radio range and a nice sound effect :) And you'll be able to ask for air cover, new directions from the commander etc. If you need help setting up the whisper lists next time just give me a shout.

Anyway, great fun yesterday and I look forward towards next wednesday :) Unless you want to test the mission earlier so just let me know when and I'll come.

  6. You're probably right about the processing methods, though like you said and what I can confirm, the computing power required for both is negligable and doesn't cause any performance hit.

To sum up i'd say that pros and cons of both are:

    - TrackIR - easy to use "plug and play" device, good quality of tracking and software, high price as a minus

    - Freetrack - requires some manual work to set up properly, might require tweaking software for some games; same quality of tracking as TrackIR if you do it right and put some work into it; low priced and a good solution if you want to save money

  7. I'll do this point by point, no offence mate but you're wrong in some cases :)

a frame rate of 120 vs 30 for a webcam. This leads to faster response and smoother motion.

PS3 Eye camera has 120 fps. It's the fastest webcam available, same speed as TrackIR, also it's very cheap. The only negative is that you hae to unscrew it and do some manual work to remove the IR filter. But it's not a big hassle. What you said is true in case of some other webcams available on the market but not this one.

image processing in the TrackIR. There is no CPU required to follow your movements, TrackIR acts as a 6D mouse to the computer. With Freetrack each camera image is processed and transformed to find your head motion. This uses CPU time, but if you have more than two CPU cores it should not affect the simulation.

Freetrack works exactly on the same basis as Track IR by following the IR LEDs' movement. The process uses 1-2% of your CPU, I imagine it's the same with TrackIR. I think what you meant was Facetracknoir which uses face tracking software on unmodified webcams and which is quite heavy on the CPU and takes up 10-15%.

good precision guaranteed and not depending on the precision of your soldering skills.

That is true. If you want to pay extra for that comfort. It's not very difficult to make the point model though, even basic skills are sufficient and there are plenty of guides how to do it. Also, you can just make another point model later without any hassle or improve the old one. But yeah, it takes some effort compared to none with TrackIR. Just think if the amount of work you save justifies the price difference. All depends on personal preference I guess.

everything working out of the box and good compatibility with a large number of sims/games

That is true. But again, I wouldn't pay the premium price just for this. With freetrack you sometimes have to use some workarounds with some games, since there might not be native support but it works fine in DCS, Arma2, Falcon BMS etc.

Don't take it personally, I'm not attacking you, I just see no reason to waste money this way - I do think TrackIR is waaaay overpriced due to lack of competition (niche market I guess).

It just depends on how you value your money and time. I guess for a person that values convenience over possibly saving a couple hundred bucks TrackIR might be a better choice.

  8. Awesome job guys, really nice to see you work hard on improving the gameplay :)

As for fighter loadout I'd suggest one for Su27s as a pretty standard one 4xR27ER, 2xR27ET, 2xR73 and 1xECM (since the F15 has it by default as well). Though if you take away the ET's and replace them with ER's I'm ok with it as well. I guess it will be more even if Blues have only Aim7's and Aim'9s :)

Ah, one more thing I remembered though I can't remember if we said it during the first mission. I'd suggest disabling CBU's for A10's. Not only that one can take out a bunch of tanks or other vehicles but it will also bring down the fps of every person on the server, which is not cool :)

  9. @Endy the files are in the server smile.gif Hope it will work.

Awesome, thank you. :) If possible can you test it if you have FC3? I can also come a bit earlier on wednesday and see if it works.

One more thing I remembered. Please remove the AWACS on both sides if there are any. If they're on you can pretty much see everything that is in the air due to data link which makes things too easy :)

As for loadouts, I assume we can change weapons for FC3 aircraft freely? ECM as standard loadouts for both sides?

Also, I know it's a preliminary list of people joining but on the day it would be nice if each side had exactly the same number of FC3 fighters to keep balance between sides in the air. I don't mind so much about strike aircraft but air superiority will be the big thing here.

PS. sorry for all the ranting, I just want to help with my remarks :)

  10. It has to be serverside as well, tested it. If you put it in your folder it will work fine in singleplayer or if you are hosting a multiplayer session. But if you try to join a server which doesn't have this mod installed it will not work. Trust me, I'm using the mod all the time and tested online on different servers as well. Has to be on the server or it will not work for anyone on that server.

  11. One more thing. Please restrict the view in mission settings to "Map only". This will allow only the ground commanders to see the units and only in visual range. All the pilots will not be able to "cheat" using the map to quickly acquire bearings to target. This should make things much more interesting.

  12. Is there any desired number of people you want to have each side and in each slot? Anyway, the possible roles for me:

    - F15 (pref.)

    - A10 (2nd)

    - Su27 (3rd)

    - ground commander if very needed (although I'd rather someone else did it this time, I wanna fly a bit :P )

Edit: Did you manage to tweak the fog of war issue perhaps?

  13. Yeah, I'd say close the server for additional participants after the mission starts. Although I had like 4 disconnects and had to reconnect again so I guess allow the ones who got kicked back in :)

I think there are still issues with CA, once my PC froze completely and I had to restart it. Not to mention diconnects when Alt-tabbing...

  14. Despite some server issues yesterday the event was definately a good try and we build on it since we got some valuable experience.

I had the pleasure of being the red commander and all the pilots on the red side were doing an awesome job disrupting blue ground attacks as well as shooting down enemy A10's.

As for the map view, it is true I had full visibility of enemy units. I think this has to be tweaked a bit, the intel is just too good this way. Although I believe both sides were on even terms here.

Anyway, I look forward to doing this again, it was a good effort and can only get better :)
