  1. From my experience, modding FC only yields about 1-5 FPS and is usually not worth the effort. In general, the only real modding one can do is to disable the shader effects, or use the settings ED provides. The only real modding you should do, in my opinion, is custom textures and custom models. As to your system, FC does not recognize dual cores, so your CPU speed is effectively halved. Drop scenes to Medium, Haze to Advanced, up colour to 32 bit (many effects need this to operate properly, and modern graphics cards are optimised for 32 bit). Running FC in a window is a performance hit, full screen is best. The overcast Mod is fussy, and doesn't make much, if any, of a difference. WHOAH!!! AA and AF OFF! OFF! OFF! Not suprised you are seeing so much stutter. AF to 2 AT MOST (THATS ALL). Ignore the advanced settings, you don't need them. As to the rest, you will just have to wait for my magic wand to come back from the cleaners. Hope it helps.
  2. I fly the MIG29 a fair bit and it's worth keeping a couple of things in mind: Firstly, it's radar is much weaker than the SU27. Secondly, just because you have the aircraft pointed at the target and have a lock does not mean you are guiding SARH missiles effectively. CHECK YOUR HUD. IF the radar lock is brocken in Russian craft the passive heat system takes over and will attempt to maintain the lock, and it does not guide SARH missiles to their target. To use the MIG (and Russian aircraft in general) with SARH missiles prevent the target from flying in the notch. Best of fortunes.
  3. I found identifying ground targets visually with medium visibility settings a pain (you have to be right on top of them sometimes for them to display), so I set about editing my graphics.cfg file to see if I could get something better. Altering this line; "structures = {40, 5000};" , to this; "structures = {40, 20000};", produced smoother play and a slight improvement in FPS. Also those vital targets were now visible further out. I think it works because LOMAC has a set of priorities of what to display in range. Furthering the display range means that high priority srtuctures are displayed further out at a lower LOD thus improving FPS. It's very much according to taste, but I hope it helps someone.
  4. An interesting and learned thread. Good posts all round. In the single player campaigns there are fights with more than ten planes a side involved. While the computer controlled planes are probably not the most erudite pilots (they're better than me), the mess on the UHD of some using jammers while others don't from both sides can make reckonning the the situation difficult. Any thoughts on the value of this in human versus human multi plane fights? Tutorials would be fine (Hint, Ironhand, hint).
  5. Just a few notes: The main intention of this procedure is to provide a smoother gaming experience, it has no effect on FPS that I can discern. Be aware that the more high resolution skins that you use, the more resources you use, and the more likely you will see a drop in FPS. The original texture does not load. This is the reason for placing the CDDS entry early in the graphics.cfg file. One can compare the resource usage and affect if one places the CDDS entry at the bottom
  6. 1) Make sure the HiRes bmps have the same name as the original bmps in the original cdds file (Use Loman to find their naming). 2) Build a new cdds of the HiRes bmps using ED's tools with a distinct name, say MyHiRes.cdds. 3) Place this file in the Bazar\World directory. 4) in the graphics.cfg file insert the line ; common = ".\\Bazar\\Terrain\\Surface\\High\\MyHiRes.cdds."; immediately after the line highFolder = ".\\Bazar\\TempTextures\\"; 5) Your HiRes texture should now show up in the game. Hope this helps.
  7. I agree and try to choose the terms of the fight, and try to engage one on one (or two on one) as much as possible. But to succeed in these missions you have a limited time frame to achieve the objectives, and I find myself brawling anyway. Some of the difficulties I've found brawling (I tend toward the MIG and SU25, not familiar with the US planes); - Often, the strongest radar on your RWR is a friendly to the rear, making range determination impossible. - F15 & F16 firing volleys of AMRAAMs - Friendly fire, especially from the rear. - Ground fire scattering the fight and making coordination difficult. - Planes gaining flanking postions, especially from below as much from the side. - Mass use of ECM making TWS useless. - Darkness! Makes the above much worse. Any thoughts on how to minimise or manage the above while in a brawl. Any tracks(with or without commentary) appreciated.
  8. The focus of most of the advice I've found on the web,in the manual, and on the tutorials is concerned with one on one jousting matches (Irohand's site is a noted exception). And, as I've been bumbling my way through the MIG29 campaign last chance, I'm wondering what tips people would give regarding success in the sort of brawl that occurs in these missions (say, miision 2 or mission 3 of the stated campaign), where there are about a dozen craft on both sides piling into a limited area of space over a short period of time. Thanks in advance.
  9. BINGO!!! Thanks Red Star. Seems so obvious now. Brit_Radar_Dude, the AlasRojas website was the one of my Google finds too. They also have a procedure for using it described but babelfish does little for my Spannish. Thanks anyway. In fact with the alt-w override you can launch them in climbing flight for even more time.
  10. My understanding of sab-100's frome reading posts here and elsewhere is that one adopts level flight, turns on the laser, the red light shows up and you drop them. This is not working at all for me. The only way I have been able to drop them is in a dive bombing profile, which only results in about ten seconds of illumination. Could someone provide some tips and/or tracks to show me the way to the light? Many thanks in advance.
