  1. Ok ... I am missing something.

    I updated to 2.1 ok.

I downloaded and installed the Normandy files ok.

I downloaded and installed the asset files ok.

I launched DCS and it asked for the key code for the assets ok.

But I just see Nevada map. I don't see any way to actually ACCESS the Normandy map (was going to make a mission in the mission editor).

I DO see the Normandy map listed in my module manager, just not how to get to it??

I did notice that in module manager, the Normandy map did not have a serial number box next to it like other modules so I went to my profile on the website and (re)obtained a key for Normandy and went back to the module manager and hit the DRM and inputted it. But still ... I don't see any way to access the map.

Same issue here. Exactly the same problem.

  2. same for me, updated to 2.1...but Normandy doesn't show up in the module manager as being available. Interestingly it shows up along the bottom (as a tile) along with the other modules, giving me the option to 'buy' it (again!)

That's exactly where I am at here. Same situation where I have keys but the module manager is an empty shelf. Doesn't show, however, Normandy is now available to buy in the row of icons across the bottom of the main menu screen. No option to insert purchased key anywhere. I "checked" the keys via dcs profile while logged in, then returned to game, only to see no change or option to download or install. I refuse to CMD because of the possibility of infringing upon user agreement, and so elect to wait for a proper solution, where the product is presented in the normal fashion, inside the module manager. I always play it safe. But, I guess that's probably why I never get caught seen floating under a parachute..

Anyway, really looking forward to getting Normandy installed. I'm sure it'll be sorted out soon. It always is with Eagle Dynamics, in the end. And just look at the quality of these modules and maps. It's truly never been a better time to be a simulator fiend. Thank you DCS, for being the flagship for all aviation simulators, to date. And well into the future I'm sure.

    See you all there.

Edit: Installing now. Upon running DCS 2.1 the following day, Normandy install prompted immediately and automatically began installation once entering the module manager. Assets followed the next time I entered the module manager, and is installing as I type. Yay!

    Good day.

  3. Control surface check before takeoff

You probably did not mess up, the default install seems to assign some really crazy stuff, like axis and button assignment across multiple controllers. When is set mine up, the first thing I did was wipe out all the default button and axis assignments and entered them all clean.

    That's the ticket.

Every install, first thing I do, is enter the axis controls and reassign all critical systems. A common conflict for me is twist rudder on my x52 flight stick. It is necessary to ensure that the assigned axis is not doubled up with two peripherals simultaneously. So if rudder or throttle or any axis control behaves eraticaly, head into the settings and scroll to the right to reveal any other devices which may be doubled up in the axis assignment columns. If throttle is assigned to an actual throttle, then make sure to delete the assignment on all other devices along that column.

Hit ctrl enter while in cockpit to bring up the red cyclic and rudder box position indicator. If you notice eratical inputs while testing control surfaces on startup, shaking or vibtating input feedback, you've got a conflict.

Manage these things on the ground before leaving it. That's the pro way to take off.

    Nevada is awesome.

    Especially for an alpha!

  4. Black screen crash while zooming in wheel mouse on mission editor map. DCS appears to attempt a restart which hangs. Then the windows alert DCS has stopped working with the option to wait or close. Hope this helps. Eager to settle in to Nevada. Looks fantastic!

    (edit)

I've since updated my catalyst drivers.

    It's running now.

  6. Personally, I have no interest in an alpha. As much as I want to fly new terrain, I have no desire to deal with anything less complete than a beta release. Not all that thrilled with the beta part either, when I consider that it is the core of the sim, what the modules need in order to function, that we are talking about and not a module.

This is also how I roll.

We all know that even once software is clear of beta, bugs will crawl, albeit fewer.

I like finished products, with fewer bugs.

    Imho:

Those who pay a premium for a product (pre-order) deserve a perk. Because they should be seen as donators. Having paid full price before release obviously aids in the development of the to be released product. Furthermore, the customer then becomes a beta tester, a much needed element to secure the stability of the finished product. This is not fun. Crash crash crash etc.

I believe that this commitment deserves a perk. And so early access seems appropriate, since they have already committed to the process of "fixing". They won't complain that it's not working properly. Instead, these types are best suited to be given this perk for the betterment of all.

Additionally, this method will encourage those not paying a premium, to do so, and get early access, which builds DCS World more quickly, as it has in the last year or so. It's really building speed now.

Lastly, I don't see why DCS would "blackout" beta testing because, as most of you have figured already, it builds hype. More sales. Nothing will entice a customer more than seeing that another has what they themselves can not.

This is the essence of marketing.

Don't forget though, that the more DCS earns, the better it is for everyone.

Let's face it, where would we turn, if this fizzled out, again?

    DCS stands alone, and proudly.

    There are no others.

  7. DX is just so overrated..

There is no indication that they are going to offer Dx12 support anytime soon....

I too was hung up on the high end. I tote above average hardware too. I eventually came to realize, especially since DX10 implementation, that DX versions have been released more frequently, with increasingly subtle tweaks in visual quality. "Visual" meaning, what I see. Yeah, I've read it all too, but the polygonal pixel pumping flex show, ain't all its hyped up to be. I care about what I can distinguish, that is all.

Because as it was stated above here:

"I didn't even realize that DCS was not using DX..."

    That's just it, isn't it?

If it's always looked great, who cares.

I don't mean to attack this statement. I just think we all get a bit hung up, on our higher end hardware sometimes.

Don't let the fact that DCS doesn't implement the latest DX version deflate your experience. You're just not missing out on much..

Looking at the tidbits of DCS 2 sneek peeks we've all been allowed to see, it's clear. If what I'm looking at there isn't DX12, it's just not something I'm overly concerned about, if you get my meaning.

    It can totally wait!

    :)

I've always been mostly annoyed with fresh DX versions. They are notorious for bogging down performance in exchange for marginal graphics/shader quality increases. Eventually they become adopted (adequately optimized).

I found myself asking the same question about a year and a half ago. This genre does need breathing room though (open doors for all PC's). I'm personally very impressed with how great DCS looks on an older, more reliable DX version.

  8. This looks very nice, especially cockpit. Almost photo-realistic and it is for us, virtual pilots foremost, because cockpit what we watch all the time. Thank you for share these pictures with us.

Odd, I was just thinking the same thing yesterday. That with everyone upping the realism, the cockpit is indeed, something we are wedged into for several hours at a time. And so, it really helps to have those intricacies in the cockpit.

    I agree entirely.

  9. I was going to suggest the Mig21Bis. Purchased it yesterday, gotta say it's probably the best DCS module I have tried. That's based on just a few flights and messing around with the training missions for a bit. If you enjoy learning systems (both fun and funny!) and a great flight model this iconic bird can not be beat.

    I'm not far behind.

    It'll come down.

Leathernecks only contribution. A fine one indeed. It does seem to be stunning quality. It was a close call for me, in the end, I chose 2 modules instead of 1. It broke the deal, that I could get 2 by passing on the dart. I was impressed with the amount of training tools available with the Mig21bis, almost bought it.

Once it's price loses some altitude, I'll shoot it down.

  10. Congrats on the Mig21bis

I just got the MiG-21 too. Able to start up and get her off the ground, but that's it. Can't wait to start throwing missiles around!

Supesoft, good call on getting the Huey. It's one of the most fun modules to fly and comes with an excellent campaign. The Sabre does not include any campaign.

    Hey Mango,

This was something I considered when making my decision. The campaign. Really looking forward to flying it. Just busy with work. I'll need a couple days to settle into it and actually learn anything. Fell deeply in love with Ka-50.

    Really happy with the Huey.

They did a great job of it, and all their products apparently.

Leatherneck really did do a good job on that cockpit. I do aim to own that jet. I spent a great deal of time researching it. I like it, it's fast! I like it a lot and will buy it.

$15 or bust for me lately unfortunately, if I'm ever to own a decent number of modules.

Mig15bis was obviously out of reach for me now. But I'm watching it too, patiently, like a wolf.

    Enjoy the mig21bis.

    Lol, "the dart".

    Totally.

  11. Please add possibility to pay with paysafecard.

Thanks for that quick response. Wife just sorted it out. Amazingly..

She pulled it off man. Thought I was gonna miss out on the sale.

    Grabbed Huey and Mi-8

    Own all the choppers.

Korea can can wait, and probably will anyway, so..

    :)

  12. local support appreciated

Finally completed the Ultimate Argument campaign and I have to say that it was absolutely excellent. $10 for such an incredibly well put together campaign is ridiculous value for money.

The final mission felt immense with so many contrails streaking through the air. Flying back to Guadata in the dying evening light with the epic closing music playing was fantastic.

    Loved it! :)

    Congratulations!

I grew up in North Van.

So that means I'm buyin it!

    Thanks for the nudge.

    $3 on spring sale

    :)

  13. Both great modules. I'd say if you're already committed to the Mi-8 then go for the Sabre for something different. Then get the Huey at another time.

That's how I was leaning actually

    Thanks for the help.

    One more thing though.

What are your thoughts on dropping the Mi8 for the Huey instead?

  14. Got myself the Mig-15bis and the Bf-109K. Don't have a clue when I'll find the time to become familiar and capable in either of these two aircraft as I am STILL trying to get my head around all the strengths and weaknesses of the F-86F, P-51D, and of course the voluminous amount of knowledge one must have to operate ALL the systems in the A-10C. But I will keep acquiring these modules because as I told my wife, Eagle Dynamics (DCSW) is the ONLY waterhole in the desert for those of us who want reasonably accurate flight simming, so I will support them financially even if I may not avail myself of each of their offerings. Thanks ED!!

    Well said sir!

    :)

  15. I'm looking for some advice on what others think would be a good purchase for me at this point. Don't want to let this sale slip by without grabbing a couple modules.

Committed to the MI-8 already @ $15 and am wanting to keep it at $15 since I want it all eventually, minus the divorce. So.

Now I'm between getting the Sabre or the Huey.

My currently purchased modules are as follows:

    P-51D

    BF-109 K4

    KA-50

    A-10C

    Flaming Cliffs 3

    Thanks for your input.

  16. Must be super exciting to discover DCS World now with so many choices!

Back in 2009 we only had the <most excellent> Black Shark, and were waiting like starving dogs for any news on the A-10C.

To me, flight simming doesn't get boring with time, but instead only more exciting and intriguing. :)

    Like this comment.

I also have been around since the start. So yes, things have never been so good for simmers. I'm actually building a cockpit because of how impressed I am. It's worth doing now.

  17. We are all very excited to get our WW2 planes in DCS but it is probably going to take some time before we get them. So...

Out of all flyable planes in DCS WW2 that we are expected to get(or already have), what is the favourite of yours? Feel free to discuss and compare them.:pilotfly:

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------

I already have my own, which is the P-51D Mustang.

I love the P-51 for it's looks, sounds and armament. I love .50 cal MGs as they are great for deflection shooting and I love the sparkles that they make on impact. The whining sound of the Pony going through turns is amazing. Besides, the bubble canopy cannopy is awesome (you have almost 360 field of view). I like all the flight characteristics of the plane. It feels powerful and untamed at the same time. I only envy the Fw190s roll rate and Spitfires sustained turn rate. :P

I wonder how it will compete with the 109K4?:book:

    Great post.

You obviously have a good understanding of when it comes together. I just love that feeling when you finally get it. Something clicks with the aircraft and you are fused together as one.

It's a great feeling. Only possible because of DCS. The potential is amazing with campaigns and multiplayer possibilities.

I am hoping we can buy a bomber soon so we can have fleets of piloted aircraft to escort.

I too have the P51Mustang. It's the only WW2 aircraft purchased thus far. My eye is on the bf109 now. I'll own most of them eventually. P51 is indeed one of the finest of the WW2 birds, and will probably remain, one of the favorites, even as the other aircraft roll out in the future.

Manned bombers is what I'd like to see. I want to see all the elements of DCS brought together, to form the ultimate real time battle field.

  18. If the tactics are to be taken seriously, ai bombers will not suffice.

It can be made possible. It's the one thing I feel might save the gen re. Realistic combat missions or campaigns. Real tactics. Ai has always been poor at best. We will need real bomber pilots.

So sell us bombers. We will buy.

This is when dcs will make serious $. When this happens.

  19. Next wish drops bombs.

After reading other posts about wanting a flyable B17,

"requesting a target to shoot down sir"

I dream of squadrons of fighters protecting fleets of bombers. Shouldn't be a dream though. Even one bomber, so bombers could fly missions. The tactics would be unprecedented. Real. And if they fail to deliver there, that's sad. If they do decide to actually simulate WW2, I'll buy a Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS, and always be on DCS.

Many reads on those posts anyway. "B17"

Alotta interest. This could get so good..

  20. throttle bumps

Hi there, I just purchased BS2 a few days ago after playing Take on Helicopters for a few weeks and wanted something more realistic.

I started with the BigfootMSR training missions, done only the flight ones so far and I gotta say, compared to the autopilot-less helicopters in TOH this bird is a joy to fly. Landing, too. It's rock solid so long as I trim properly and don't turn off the autopilot channels (I did that at first, thinking "pffff who needs this I can handle it! then promptly flipped the bird over 5 meters off the ground :joystick: *)

Anyway, I had a few questions and I'm sorry if any of these had already been covered (I only got to page 36, couldn't read the rest).

    1. I use TrackIR, and when I move my head it seems like the view starts to slowly auto-center itself, even if I don't move my head. Is there a way to disable this?

    2. Where are the "Engine Throttle Levers" in the cockpit? I know I cannot directly control them by clicking on them with the mouse, and have to use PageUP/PageDOWN, but I would like to be able to actually see them so I know what position they are set in. For example PgUP x2 will set it to "auto", but then what position does PageUP x 1 set them to? And if I press the button 3 times, why is there an alarm that starts going off? I'm sure if I could actually see where they are and see what settings I'm changing I'd figure that out...

    4. Difference between Barometric and Radar altimeters. In the training mission it says that the radar altimiter is not accurate above 300 meters, so it switches to barometric. But I notice that when it switches, there's a giant leap in altitude it displays. For example as I'm climbing to 300, to goes like.. 270, 280, 290, then when it passes 300 and goes BOOM! 0600+ meters. I'm so confused... where did these extra 300 meters come from?

    5. I have a Saitek X52 Pro. What should I be using to control the collective? When I started playing Take on Helicopters I only had a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro, and for a $40 stick that wasn't bad. But it had a tiny little flap for throttle (or collective) and that was very insufficient.

So I bought the X52 so that I could have a dedicated throttle, but, something I couldn't have anticipated is that this throttle is not smooth... there's some kind of "bumps" in it at the lower end and at the far end, meaning that if I try to apply smooth collective over these "bumps" then I'd have a similar bump in collective input in the game - not good!

And even ignoring the bumps, the rest of the throttle seems a bit stiff, even when I turn the resistence knob all the way down.

I tried the slider, but it's a little stiff and doesn't give me smooth control either. I've also tried some of the rotating rings on the throttle, but again these are rather stiff and don't give good control.

What do you guys use for collective control? Maybe I should just add some grease or something to make these things smoother...

    Thanks for any help!

    * Turned out the toe pedals on my rudder were setup to give banking input

I also was frustrated with these bumps in the X52 Pro throttle. I adjusted the knob to give it zero resistance, which only made the bumps more pronounced. I tried putting the resistance to full, which almost eliminated the bumps, but was too stiff. In the end I ended up setting the resistance to around 90% and actually got used to the bumps. Another thing that helped me though, was building a rig for racing/flight simming and it allowed me to secure my throttle to the rig. This allowed me to push more heavily on the throttle without having it slip around while doing so. Now I can hold the throttle with a stronger grip and stabilize through those "bumps" without much of a problem at all. In fact, I hardly even notice it anymore. I highly recomend securing your throttle in some way to achieve similar results.

Admittedly, this is not the only quirk with the X52. However, I'm still overall very satisfied with the functionality of the X52 and believe you took a step in the right direction by picking it up. I would only trade it for a Warthog Thrustmaster, which is a $500.00 high quality force feedback flight stick, which I can't afford, but still admire. X52 has served me very well though.
