Mighty amraam not so mighty in real life?
Kelju_K replied to Kelju_K's topic in Military and Aviation
Quoting myself here: "I think that a pilot that can visualize the situation well, should be able to cause enough problems for the missle, any missle for that matter to miss, without necesarily breakin the lock." Your reply GG: Not really. Think about it this way, just to avoid introducing new missiles, we'll talk about firing R-27ER and AIM-120 inside mutual Rtr (it used to be called NEZ, but they stopped calling it this for a reason ). The guy firing the 27 will be shot down if he doesn't break lock. Well i have proven you wrong. I can cause your precious noobram enough problems to keep presing without breakin the lock on su-27. There are ED testers that fly regulary on the servers who have seen me do it numerous times, ask them if you dont believe me. Just because you cant do it, doesnt mean nobody can. They are stupid, the missles, and as long i know exactly how stupid i'll find a way to go around them if i take it as my mission, like i did earlier allmost just because you were telling me it's not possible. And your style to answer to peoples posts here is very unpleasant. Used to think that you just know these things better. Now i know you're just a arrogant **** Kel -
I have allways felt that the relation of how much you see the cockpit/world is off. with russian planes i have moved the pilot back a bit in the cockpit by altering x trans in snapviews. in F-15 it (x trans=starting point for 6dof) cant be moved back more than 0.26 for some reason.. also hud size cant be altered in any planes. give us control over these (all if possible..) settings and everybody could make their cockpit meet their preferences. What you see on your screen is everything to immersion. people have different size/amount of monitors, also we all have the screen a little bit different distances from our eyes. So more options to set it right for each individual is needed or at least wanted. kel

It is? Nice feature actually now that i think about it. Thanks for your reply! Edit. So the radar aligns itself with the plane when vertical scan is enabled, but otherwise it stays stabilized? Hmm.. other behaviour of the radar doesnt support that hypothesis. I shouldn't be able to put the bandit to the corner of the radarcone by banking 45 deg if it would be stabilized... Maybe only the scanzone controls have been made so that it allways behaves that way to make things more simple in a "russian way"? Heh.
-
Well, of course it's not but the scanzone controls behave like it is. Example: if you are banked 90 degrees, say left (left wing pointing towards ground) logic would tell me that scanning up and down would in this case be actually scanning left and right horizontally (like vertical scan works when banked 90 deg), and scanning left/right would be scanning down/up. But in fact, if you are banked 90 deg moving the scanzone up/down still moves the radar up/down (in relation to horizon), and left/right the same. So when banked and turning, you should move the scanzone to the side that you are turning into rather than up if you want to pick up the bandit faster. Don't know if this is a feature or a bug, and dont even care now that i know about this, just wanted to give a heads up about this to other flanker/mig pilots out there. Cheers. Kelju

Yeah! i want a 109 as well. 190 is zoom and boom only, and boring because of that... at least with the earlier 109's you can turnfight a little even tough they are not made for that. F4 would be awesome. the plane of the legendary star of africa, Hans Joackim Marseille!

And if i got the eagle to go defensive early enough i could maintain lock and get his ass on eos and wait him to recommit and send et at him, then extend. a good pilot stayed in the fight long enough to force me to notch but so did i to him. then it was more or less equal terms but mostly eagle pilots fought so safely that they gave me the chance to gain the upper hand. now they have no fear of the er and im the one running or dead. as for gameplay, to me its allmost the same.. "You really shouldn't be able to do this easily" Easy is not what im askin here. just possible. Anyway. this is all i have to say on the matter before the pacth. get back to you after that. Kelju -

Ofcourse i would be in the notch in that situation!! Right now if i start to launch er's at 30 km the eagle doesnt have to go defensive more than taking me at gimbals of his radar while i have to go to the notch. And that is the reason i been trying to find the "hole". This is all i want really, to be able to force the eagle to notch without going in to NEZ(or whatever..) So that i have chances to find him first after my notch!!! my notch doesnt do me any good if the eagle can maintain lock. i would have to extend anyway in that situation. Obviously this is what i did in FC2. cant do it now. not with er's anyway. -

Ok. first of all thank you gg for your last reply. that cleared up couple of thing for me, in addition of comparing fc2 track with fc3 tracks. I noticed that in fc2 i was able to splash/force the F-15 on defensive earlier, thus preventing me to get in to NEZ (preventing the eagle pilot to launch that 120 that close to me that they can do now) of the amraam due to longer legs of the fc2 r27er + the problem you mentioned with the current 3d model makin me more "visible" have made me easier for the eagle pilot to keep up with my maneuvers. And i have to tell you that i had gotten used to being able to maintain lock and avoiding the slammer if i just time, and choose my turns wisely while performing the turns at max g at right speed (not an easy task btw). Previously my success rate with this approach was higher than you might think, and thats why i still believe that once we get our 3d model and the patch im still able to fight the eagles this way. Like in the video the other USAF guys says that all missles are defeatable becauce they rely on so many variables. And i think that this is the way it should be. I think that a pilot that can visualize the situation well, should be able to cause enough problems for the missle, any missle for that matter to miss, without necessarily breaking the lock. I'm not suggesting it should be easy, but possible. This would also make the game more interesting and exiting, and imo more realistic. Bear in mind that no real life pilot can practice missle evasion as much as we virtual pilots can, or as safely as we can. That's why i believe that we, the computer pilots should be able to out perform records of real life engagements. We do it SO much without self preservation being in the way of our development as pilots. Waiting for the new 3d model and the patch. Best wishes. Kelju P.S And yeah most of the uber behaviour of the slammer that i have encountered, has been online. hope that issue will be fixed in the future aswell. -

It's not about doing it right or wrong. It's about me refusing to believe that there is no way to evade the amraam while maintaining the lock. And i will never believe that being the case. That's why i have been experimenting, only to find a "hole" in the holiness of the spamraams dynamics. I could extend when i get the warning of the missle gone active, Or just brake the lock and notch, then reaquire you and try to engage again like other veteran flanker pilots do. Or i could just lurk in the valleys trying to find you with eos. I'm not that stupid!!! doh.. like i said, its not about that with me right now. It just not rewarding at any level to have to brake the lock or extend every time you are lauched at with amraam. And that is, what i understand, the reason why most of the 51st guys are not flying much now. (sorry if i spoke on your behalf here, correct me if im wrong) We all. even us, the ruski plane pilots want the game to be exiting. Right now it's far from that... -

Hah! i could have swore that the "it must have been a dud" comes up. LOL! If you watched the hole video (or the missle part of it) you would have noticed that it took 3 missles to get the mig. (-"at 5 miles i shot my third missle, another amraam..") And i have the U-turn on track file, i just need to dig it up and i will post it here. have more of the super maneuverability behaviour on track files as well, seems that i have to do some digging. It makes me wonder how on earth the 120 got out that "bad" in the first place? cant you beta testers get splashes without it being so uber? Or are you just looking things trough "star and stripes goggles"? Right now getting kills with the 120 doesnt require any piloting skills what so ever Yesterday at 104th server i was schooling a noob countryman of mine who had no idea of anything really (3rd or 4th time online!!!) and he was 3rd in the stats, splashing experienced flanker pilots (after i told him only when to launch and when to extend!) with the F-15! I mean C'MON! is this really how the game is supposed to be??? Is that all that is required from an Eagle pilot to gets kills? P.S. Sorry Joonas if i dissed you here, i had to bring this up, to make a point :( -
In this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sfxdbs2n5F4 starting at 41.11 minutes (the missle part of the video) F-15 pilot tells his story of his first combat mission 1999 in kosovo. A Serbian mig 29a pilot evades the amraam, (launched at 14 miles) after it has gone active(!) by just notching it (prob used chaff too i suspect ;)) I have been trying to replicate this scenario in the game in all possible angels, speeds, ect. and it simply can't be done. Not even 180 at this situation (maneuvering after the missle has gone active after 14 miles launch) work. Plus I have seen amraam make almost a U-turn and splash me. seen amraam makin so hard turns that it leaves an angle to the contrail rather than a curve. I know the game is still in beta, and i hope that after the promised patch, this REAL LIFE situation is replicable in the game. Thanks. Kelju
