Doing My Part
I have done everything I can do and had fun with the phoenix dedicated servers but when their TS went down it was worthless. nothing worse than idiots who can join a server running a game that has fairly high system requirements but not run TS cause they explain in type they do not have a microphone. WTF
I have X52(custom Profile), G13, Triton Headset, 5 monitors (3 set to eyefinity 2 dedicated to a custom Helios profile) cockpit is displayed n a 32inch touchscreen, and an extremely high end desktop.
I own a personal CNC machine and have every intention of designing a home SIM, I am finding it hard to dedicate the expense of building a sim for any aircraft in this game.
Hate and troll all you want but my argument is valid. I just checked every public server and there is a combined 29 people logged in right now. I just droped more money on that Combined Arms and for what. I have seen 2 servers that make use of it?
DCS is worried about making more clickable airvraft when they havent even finished making the GUI for the existing aircraft compete with industry standards. Why do we still have to edit lua code to export gauges and such. I can't even change from the A10-C to the KA-50 without doing massive file changes in both the options for my screen and in the program files to make helios function.
Helios is a great program and Gadroc deserves more credit for it than DCS does for everything else they have done. DCS should include something like HELIOS, ffs we can't even change our game sounds without going damn near to the desktop.
I can go on and on and on with issues that need to be prioritized over new aircraft and every one of those reasons represents a percentage of members that DCS discourages.
This is exactly how I feel about DCS products, argue and turn your nose makes no difference. I am new to flight sims as of Jan 2013 and have put a fair amount of time towards learning everything I can. So, my view on this should carry some weight, I am not jaded or appreciative for the things that DCS does better than others. This is all I have seen and I am not impressed.
Consider the demographics for a moment. First off they need a descent computer, interest in flight sims, enough knowledge to not be intimidated, expensive equipment like joysticks/g13 etc, knowledge of programming(must have to edit lua and extract), a shit ton of patients, be willing to hand over 40 bucks every time they turn around, and the time to invest in this very serious hobby.. I have seen and met a lot of people in my life but never have I met anyone in RL that flys home simulators.... The demographics are small enough without adressing issues by people who are willing to give it a go.
They can't stay in business on just your dollar....
one last things you veterans have not had to deal with was almost an extremely big deal breaker for me. THIS FORUM, it is cluttered with old information from previous updates that have never been archived. It was nearly impossible to sort through it all just to makes sense of half the things needed to get started. Three fn days to find HELIOS, the website is down and you now need to go to gadrocs workshop to download it but with hundreds of links from 2009 still showing in the searches I thought it was discontinued. 2 weeks after I get Helios working properly they update DCS and the export.lua was moved and instead of playing I am trying to sort out the 1millionth problem!!!!
