  1. I have already imagine the A10A possibility and that can be nice !

Yes we would have the D for flying with the new systems, as well as the A which is the one we all knew about and A-10 fans loved. (I'm not really an A-10 fan since I love the A-7 Corsair II, but I also like the A-10).

It could be something similar to BS2. I would definitely buy it, providing it came in around the $20 mark.

Well, they could release it at a special low price for those who bought the A-10C, normal price for those who haven't and even a bundle containing both at a discount.

  2. Although I bought DCS A-10C when it was released, I haven't had the time to get into it until a few days ago. I think it's very good and the modern systems make it a lot more effective (smth like a slow F-16 :) ), and the attacks a lot easier.

I would have preferred the A-10A though, since I grew up during the cold war (regression to childhood :) ). So that's the A-10 I'd like to fly in DCS level of detail, having the now "backup systems" as main systems, sitting in the old cockpit and relying on the force instead of the sniper pod! :D

After the long intro, it's time to get to the point.

Since all this work has been put to the A-10C and we have a very good flight model, the backup systems are there, etc, how easy would it be for ED to implement an A-10A based on the work they've done on the C?

If it's feasible I'd sure buy it, but it probably wouldn't be worth the time for just one customer would it? So I thought I'd add a poll to this, to see how many people would also like the A-10A and would buy it, even if they bought the C.

Finally, as some friends have said, I can fly the C with the new systems turned off, or fly the A in FC2.

Well, flying the C with the systems off is not the same.

Flying the A in FC2 is obviously also not the same, which is one of the reasons I preferred the Su-25 in FC, which had a better flight model and made your life harder (ie. forced you to "fly" in a more realistic manner).

But that's how we sim-masochists like it isn't it? :D

  3.

    • Code injection via an unchecked LUA file

First thing that crossed my mind when I read this thread!

With this method you could also make some very good missions instead of a hack I think. If you've got the time to look into it that is.

Passworded servers and playing with people you know could be an easy fix for now, but it's true that you get to make new friends on open servers.

Personally, I've "met" many nice guys like the ones from VVS-504 and DFA, on unpassworded servers.

On the other hand, deciding to dedicate a few hours of your limited free time to the game and have someone spoil it like that, can make you regret not having taken some rest instead.

One of the reasons I only play on passworded when I have the time.

  4. I think rain would be even better for the Ka-50 in bad weather conditions, because you'd have to turn on the wiper to be able to see through the canopy, which would be more realistic.

As it is now, the wiper is just decorative unfortunately.

They don't have to make rain drops on the canopy very realistic for a start. Just scripted drops that disappear when you reach certain speeds (like in the f-18 video), but of course ED knows better how much work that requires.

    Maybe something like that:

  5. I used to play that on the Amiga too! Nice game.

I'm not sure about the remake though, because I generally don't like modern 3D games. Too many explosions, flashing things and overall exaggeration leads to anti-aesthetic results.

The only modern games that seem to interest me are flight simulators, but I don't have much time even for those lately.

  6. I think the first flight sim I ever played was Flight Simulator on a friend's IBM (the one that looked like a luggage and had a tiny yellow screen).

She said she had a game in which you could fly an airplane but she couldn't figure out how to take off. I managed to take off (out of pure luck probably) and then we just flew around spotting things on the ground, like people rowing on rivers etc. I bet those were supposed to be something else though! :)

Then I played a lot of ACE on the Spectrum and even more Falcon and Combat Pilot on the Amiga.

I think I've probably played almost every flight sim released on those machines, but nothing on PCs in the 90s since I first got a PC in 2000, because the job required it.

One day I was at a friends house and skimmed through one of his PC magazines.

Just as I was getting bored, I came accross an article about a Russian flight sim.

You can probably imagine the culture shock of jumping from Tornado and the unfinished Amiga version of TFX, to Lockon. :D

  7. I'd like to see full UTF-8 support in the editor and during gameplay.

In Blackshark I could type Greek in the logbook, mission briefings etc, but not in the multiplayer chat (in DCS-A10 I cannot write in Greek anywhere).

I checked out the game's files and I found a TGA - TXT file pair if I remember correctly, in which the TXT had the HEX Char codes and the coordinates of the rectangles containing the characters, while the TGA file had the actual characters in the Alpha channel.

Unfortunately, this file has only got English and Russian, instead of the full character table.

I added a few Greek letters to test it and I could see Greek characters in the multiplayer mission briefing and chat.

Could the complete character set be added to these files?

  8. Great to see the Birds of Prey box again, loved that.

That was a great game! You could fly almost any plane you could imagine, from Transport to Fighters (there wasn't an A-7 Corsair II in the game though  ).

It even had a dynamic campaign, which was great for 90-91.

At first I was put off by the fact that all airplanes had the same generic cockpit, but each plane had a different flight model so it didn't really matter, especially in HUD only view. :)

  9. @ dotChuckles

Hey, I was a fan of Megadeth in the 80s too!

    @bumfire

Yes the photo isn't very clear in some parts, probably got to do with the light and my shaky hands. :)

    Sorry about that!

    The games pictured are:

Dawn Patrol, Reach for the Skies, Mig-29 Fulcrum, Flight Simulator 2, F-15 Strike Eagle 2, Thunderhawk, Combat Air Patrol, Subwar 2050, Jet, Tornado, Gunship 2000, F-19 Stealth Fighter, Coala, Silent Service 2, Dogfight, Av-8 Harrier Assault, Birds of Prey, A-10 Tank Killer, Flight of the Intruder, ACE, F-16 Combat Pilot, Falcon Mission Disk 1, Falcon Mission Disk 2, Falcon, Fighter Bomber, Fighter Bomber Advanced Missions, F-15 Strike Eagle, Strike Force Harrier, Spitfire 40, Red October, Silent Service, Combat Lynx, Skychase, Battlehawks 1942, ATF 2, F-29 Retaliator, Gunship, Interceptor, Night Raider, ATF, Delta Wing, Fighter Pilot, Jet Pilot, X-Plane 9, Lockon, Flaming Cliffs, DCS: Blackshark, Steel Beasts and FSX.

I've got to admit that some of them weren't exactly simulators (eg. ATF), but they were as fun, so I couldn't omit them.

  10. I've read some nostalgic threads in the forum about good old simulators like ACE, Combat Lynx, Combat Air Patrol etc, so I thought I'd upload a photo of my simulators for the elders to remember and the youngsters to discover (I hope that makes sense in English).

Most of them are for the Amiga and the ZX Spectrum, except from the ones in bottom row which are for ehm... IBM Compatibles. :)

    Enjoy! :pilotfly:

  11. Does the DCS-A10 have full UTF-8 support on Multiplayer chat, briefings etc?

In other words, have the appropriate tga and txt (char code - coords) files been updated with the complete utf-8 table instead of just English and Russian?

If not, is this planned for the final release?

  12. I'm happy as long as DCS modules are compatible.

If having to patch all the previous modules is a time consuming process, it could be better if there was basic DCS installation (eg. DCS-Base) and flyables would be installed to that, so you'd just have one DCS directory with everything in it.

The base installation could be upgraded independently of flyables, which would implement interfaces to use the engine's features (eg. abstract aircraft systems, cockpit interaction etc).

Anyway, I don't know how DCS made, so it could be already done this way.

As far as FC2 compatibility is concerned, I think it would be better to focus time and resources on DCS, to release more flyables.

I might miss the Su-25 because it was the toughest to fly, but the DCS flyables are tougher, so I can live without it. :)

On the other hand, MP missions with many aircraft roles (CAS, Fighter Sweep etc) are possible on FC, but we already have a helicopter and an airplane on DCS, with more to come.

On next DCS module priority, I'd love to see a 2 seater (eg. Apache, F-111 or Russian equivalents), as it's great fun to be on the same airplane or helicopter with a friend. I think it would be a great feature for the DCS engine.

On the other hand, a fighter would fill the gap of FC2 and bring more player roles to MP.

Personally, I'm happy with any flyable, as long as it's as close to reality as possible and that's DCS' goal isn't it?

  13. As far as I recall, on the Su-33 you have to connect once to a basket even if you can't see it (keep the small circle on the HUD, inside the big one).

Once you've connected you can see it, or even all of them if I remember correctly.

It doesn't matter if you disconnect, you can still see them.
