I think I've made it very clear what my position is and I think ED is shirking their responsibility to its customers. ED should make it clear that Steam and the ED Shop do not operate in the same way, Steam is generally seen as inferior, Steam has no plus sides to it but some negatives, Steam has less price reductions but if the customer complains it will be the fault of the customer for choosing Steam. Nice... I think I know exactly where I stand now... I have nothing else to say on this matter.

You are complaining to the Apple staff, that the Android store has a Sale on Apps and they don't. so you can't buy on the Android store, as it won't work on your iPhone...
Analogy fail.
Nobody is treated "poorly" normal market behaviour.Falling back on "normal market behaviour" is a cop out. "If ED have no control over Valve, will ED make it clear in the future that people should not buy their products on Steam as you're likely to be treated poorly and not get reductions, better still remove this inferior avenue?"
-
Ed has no control over anything on steam so how is this their fault? You need to drop the damn chip on your shoulder. Steam runs sales on Dcs all the time when ed does not. Those of us that were smart and left the steam version gets the best of both worlds. We cqn buy from any sales, get earky access to betas and such way before steam will ever see them. Truthfully i dont know why its even offerex on steam any longer. The only benefit is the updating mechanism when they eventually get them.
"1.2 Forum members must treat other with respect and tolerance."
Of course I'm sure if I made it personal that wouldn't ****ing do at all would it? Chip on my shoulder? Who are the ones personally attacking me and being snide for having an opinion about being treated poorly for using Steam? Are you guys shareholders in Eagle Dynamics or something? I don't very much like it being inferred that, for whatever my reasons, I'm stupid for wanting to use Steam and being treated the same when that's one of the distribution options given by ED.
Maybe I was wrong, but I thought there was a sale here not so long ago which coincided with Steam and I read here that "we [ED I presume] will be having a DCS module sale on Steam". If ED have no control over Valve, will ED make it clear in the future that people should not buy their products on Steam as you're likely to be treated poorly and not get reductions, better still remove this inferior avenue?

No I don't like it... No excuses, no damn excuses...

Why no 40% off sale for Steam users? Very annoyed...

Just got the newest update. I have two issues with the sights I'm finding the yellow reticle too blocky (6 pixel lines) and at some angles the reticle protrudes further than the head-up display.

Very useful set of links Devrim. Shame there's no F-15C dirty cockpit mod like the awesome A-10C one.
Edit: The c@sper's HD F-15 cockpit mod is great...

Marky,do you use SSDs?
I do not hansangb. I don't know anything much about SSDs other than one or two people say they're good for sims/gaming. I've got 2 1/2 TB of hard disk space so SSDs will have to wait. Just eyeing the "Samsung 850 EVO 1 TB"... Want one. :)

Is there a Trademark or Copyright like this listed on the software?
Such as "Copyright © 2016 NaturalPoint, Inc."
One popular free software I see nothing listed for or even an official website.
One in fact does have it. But it's not freeware, it's donationware.

https://sourceforge.net/p/facetracknoir/wiki/PointTracker/ (6 DOF IR tracking)
Trying to imply that a business is unethical because it actually sells its product is absurdIt is not absurd to suggest a company is charging too much... I do think £180 (about the price of a 32" Sony Bravia television or a MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960) for not very much is verging on profiteering.
-
Implying that TrackIR is overpriced because it's possible to make your own "free" device is like saying music CDs are overpriced because there's "free" music available on the Internet. :music_whistling:
You can whistle all you like, it doesn't make your analogy correct. You're really overreaching there, I did not steal anything and I never wrote that it was free...
-
Proving the point that in theory it works, but in practice a potential nightmare of glitches unreliability and frustration, dependant on a number of variables that are system dependant.
Which is why TrackIR is so popular...maybe ;) It's a professional product that works straight out of the box, that's what you pay for.
If your so concerned about the price, find someone in the US, wire them the money and get them to send you one as a "gift".
You have an odd way of proving things...
Anyway I'll leave this TrackIR fan club alone now.

I'd go for quality TrackIR over home brew any day, I wasted time & money on the FaceTrackNoIR / CL Eye setup, and had 2 of the most frustrating days imaginable.
Useless for me.
I'm UK based and would happily pay for a Track IR for peace of mind, the potential for issues is the home brew kit spoils the experience.
Two days, what were you doing? I've just set mine up and it took about 6 hours (someone who is not disabled would be able to do it in far less time), most of that time was messing with FaceTrackNoIR's settings but the most difficult bit was removing the IR filter form the camera and fitting two layers of floppy disk for a filter. As I wrote it cost me £25 and it's a very decent head tracker.
-
Did you make your own joystick or graphics card for free? just curious...
My MSI NVIDIA Gtx 960 2 GB cost £15 less than TrackIR 5 Basic, that's exactly what I'm talking about...
-
Thank you all for your replies. I've managed to find about another 8 FPS and I have some settings higher and one or two that were off are now on. It's pretty tricky getting the settings right... Even though I have some trepidation, I'm really looking forward to the update... Fingers crossed.
-
"It's a reasonable price for an excellent product." No it isn't, it's a rip off made by a greedy company. Nearly £200 for flimsy IR tech like TrackIR, reasonable price, yeah right...
"And the software used by the home brews is probably pirated from NP. That's why it's given away free and not sold. Otherwise they'd get sued." Evidence?
-
Even if I had the money I would not buy TrackIR because I think NaturalPoint is talking the **** charging £180 (basic) for not very much is verging on profiteering.
USB Head Tracker Tracking Pro Clip £17
Sony Playstation 3 Eyetoy Camera £6
CL Eye Platform Driver £2
FaceTrackNoIR V200 £0
A bit of time scooping out the IR filter £0
Total £25

You've got a GTX 1080 8GB and bothering about a few FPS going below 130? I doubt many can detect any change in FPS above 50 (between 25 - 30 FPS is usual for film). Thanks for the video though, I had another go at my settings and found another 8 FPS and a have one or two things like AA set higher and HDR on. Mad...

I hope that's the case Rangi.

How would I know what everyone knows, that's why I asked? Well that's that then...

Windows 7 64-bit
MSI GTX 960 2GB (I should have brought 4GB of which I'm kicking myself about)
MSI 970 Motherboard
AMD FX-6300 Six-Core Processor, 3.50 GHz
16GB Ram
Not the best system even for DCS v1.5 (usually between 40 and 60 FPS dependant on how many enemies etc with the occasional huge drop in FPS for no apparent reason). Being I'm on disability (and would rather not stare at a wall all day long) I do worry that DCS v2.5 is going to make a huge drop in FPS on my system because I can't afford to upgrade right now (£200 - £300 is a lot of money and £400 - £500 is out of the question) as I've only just upgraded and buying the expensive FC3, Gazelle and A-10C (about £90).
So the question is, will DCS lumber along at low settings or render my outlay a waste?

Unless you have a super-duper system it's not wrong to even up the odds a bit.

The new textures for the An-2 Colt and MI-8 at least makes them look a lot better but my issue is if I'm making a mission for the A-10 or Gazelle I want the airbase to look American, British or NATO and not have a ton of Soviet gear clogging up the place.

Thanks for your posts peeps.
zaelu: Thanks for you post, very useful.
It seems the whole integrity check business voids modding to a great degree. I haven't used JSGME yet as at first look it seemed difficult and I usually don't get along with mod organisers. I will have to spend some time with JSGME/OvGME sometime, it's either that or collate all the mods I want to use so I can drop them into the DCS World directory and keep a dirty/clean DCS World directories and rename them when I want to chose which to use. Hope that makes sense, it's 3am...

..will DCS 1.5 still work after EOL?
in DCS 2.9
Posted
I hope 1.5 can still be playable because I'm on disability and cannot afford/waste money on buying components unless they're worn out especially the way things are in the UK right now... Maybe I can run 2.5, we'll see...
