  1. Couldn't agree with you more, DCS is great in the rift. I think the refresh rate could be better, I have to turn everything to min and I still think its too low. Can you give me a blow by blow on setting up the hydra? I've tried it and it crashed DCS, would really like to try this after going to all the hassle of setting up the hydra on my rift.
  2. This has been available for a while. There's several posts about it a few pages back. The IPD and convergance are difficult to get right without a lot of experimentation. While the frame rate is much better than using tridef, oulus overlay introduces alot of latency to the point I thought the setup was junk. Perhaps in your write up you'll be able to show how to get oculus overlay working well. I have faith we'll see an offical update from ED any day now :) Happy rifting.
  3. Hi Frushern I had the same problem with double vision until I used oculus overlay. OO introduces a fair bit of latency so I am not advocating for it but it should be straight. All I had to change was zoom. The procedure I used was 1 set resolution in config file to match dcs resolution Set windows to extended mode with rift as second display Turn off window mode in dcs. Run OO and press z to send it to the oculus screen Start a flight Adjust zoom to fill fov I hope that helps. I don't really have an urge to play this way the latency is too off putting but it's starting to come together and for that I thank Matt, Kuky and the team.
  4. I think somebody is having a little fun with you. What you want to do is create a new file in your config\monitorSetup folder. You'l know you have the right folder because it has the 1camera.lua file in it. I called my new file stereo.lua. Then copy and paste the code from KuKy and save the file. Then in options select your new stereo option from the monitor drop down menu. That should get you started. I think the number for separation and convergence in the file are a bit off but its a great start. EDIT: I take it back the numbers from KuKy look like their close to right. The scale maybe a little off for me but this is very close. The frame rate is so much better than tridef its not funny. If anybody would like to try the same I used oculus overlay for the warping and facetracknoir for the head tracking.
  5. Tl dr; the HUD needs to be rendered at infinity :smilewink:
  6. I think howie87's point was the hud needs to be placed at infinity and that I think we all agree on. This is fantastic news Matt. I wonder in your hack if you are seeing the frame rate drop by half as I do with tridef. Thanks again.
  7. I am so relieved you have the rift in hand and can already see the possibilities and the limitations. I know prudence says there is little to gain from patching in support but the press alone, and coupled with dcs ww2, makes it worth your while. Plus and this is the most important point I can't wait:) Really is great news. Thank you Matt. Please share more it's very entertaining.
  8. I just going to go ahead and assume there is a crack team at ED working around the clock on Rift support:). Thanks Matt
  9. Thank you yyk for the reference to riftht4dcs. I think from the post it only does the head tracking. How do you manage the side by side 3d and the distortion?
  10. I surprised I haven't seen anybody posting their experiences with the oculus rift and dcs. I managed to configure blackshark 1 to use the OR vie the tridef drivers. The effect is amazing. My flying has never been so smooth. Hovering felt natural, even easy with the autopilot off. I was always a nervous lander but the OR on I could pick out my spot 2 miles out, maintain a solid line down to the pad and touch down with class. Really I can't tell you how much more natural an experience it is. I can tell you the gauges are usable. It's nice that with the wide fov most gauges are visible with a glance of the eye rather than a move of the head that was always needed with trackir. You can't read digits but you can see needles and that's enough once you've seen the gauge up close once. The bad: frame rate, resolution and lack of positional tracking. I have a beefy machine but with tridef running at 90 degrees fov I can't keep the fps above 60 except in the most empty of regions. If the game had native support I think this wouldn't be such a problem. Please, please, please ED patch in support. I will pay and so will others once they try OR with DCS. The resolution of course is limited. The consumer version will fix this but I don't care I won't be flying the blackshark again without the OR it's just too satisfying. I am going to try patching in the trackir to solve the positional tracking. If you have blackshark 1 and the OR I urge you to get the tridef trial and give it go. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
