  1. Sniper, is there a separate in-game key binding for that second radio? Also, are there any setting in SimpleRadio to set other than the server IP?
  2. Hi all. Trying to do some Blue Flag operations and they (and a few other servers, I've noticed) use SimpleRadio for comms. Was fiddling around with it last night and could not raise anyone on the radio even though there were plenty of people on there. 1) Just so I'm clear, what settings does the in-game cockpit radio have to be on? Far as I remember in order to have the KA50 radio functioning you don't really need to switch any dials just tune the frequency. 2) Maybe I'm missing something in SimpleRadio -- how does one set up the latest build? And if anyone's got a KA50/Mirage2000 squadron that needs a pilot with limited free time, I'd love to join.
  3. Found a site that states the possible munitions as a lot more substantial than what we have in game. Mavericks, Shrikes...both would be a blast in this bird. The Wiki entry also has AIM-120s listed as possible armament. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northrop_F-5 http://www.military-today.com/aircraft/northrop_f5e_tiger_ii.htm It's a really fun aircraft to fly and would love some more versatility.
  4. Master Arm is on. Again, I can lock, fire, and hit. But no TIR appears.
  5. Either one. Also, I was switching to the different missile lock modes and the HUD iconography wasn't switching. Like no broken circle for boresight, respective lines for vertical and horizontal scan. I'm getting my terms mixed up but I'm hoping you know what I mean. But I could lock someone up and fire a missile. Is it possible I was in a mode that doesn't display that info? Or because it's multiplayer and settings are different at startup maybe I've forgotten enabling something?
  6. In SP, I find a bandit, lock him up, get a TIR prompt to shoot, no problem. In MP, I'm in range, and indeed locked and the missile will track, but not TIR indication on the HUD. I'm assuming it's a setting in the plane, a button not pressed or in some alternate mode that I have forgotten to enable. Any clues? What dictates showing TIR/no TIR?
  7. Here's another one. If you lock them up once on your radar will they get warned that you have locks on them? Or will it come up as you are scanning them? I'm referring to when you have to lock someone up twice fire your medium-range missiles.
  8. There's one tone I'll get that I really don't know what it is. Hard to write out the sound. It's high pitched. Nothing to do with maneuvering, but then again I couldn't say for sure. So yeah, that narrows it down...There's a sound the plane makes and I don't know why.
  9. Actually yeah, that helps a ton. Thanks very much, sir
  10. Just trying to be a better Mirage pilot. Love it so far, but I'm still new to modern fighters as I'm still stuck with my wwii warbird brain. What are the tones/visual indications of the following? If my plane is being either tracked or locked? If I'm locked, is there a way to tell where I'm being locked from? When a missile is being shot? If that missile is either radar or heat-seeking or whatever else? I've got an idea about some of these but wanted to consult The Elder Gods of the forum.
  11. I know, Sweep, I'm saying they're bloody hard.
  12. Nothing against the FC planeset, it's just the majority of those planes tend to either outclass the fully developed modules (f15 vs mig21 for example) or beat them in reaction speed due to their simplified systems. Are there any servers there that only support modern with PFMs and clickable cockpits? Feels like there are enough now in a multitude of roles.

  14. Apologies if this has already been discussed or is scheduled to be fixed in 2.0 or whathaveyou, but... Has anyone felt the land unit AI lacking? I find it especially highlighted in something slower like the KA50 where you can literally get in range and pick off armor one by one, with very little evasive action by the enemy. They might move 500 meters in one direction, then halt. It would be great if they determined the direction of the attack and then put terrain or obstacles between them, or fall back to another rally point, or if they feel they have superior firepower move to attack. Am I just so naive to what level of programming that is? Are there any mods out there that get close to what I'm thinking of? Is all that just mission maker programming?
  15. Fair enough. But what if those baddies stand in between you and the target?
  16. Hi all. Not new to DCS but new to the modern aircraft. The Ka50 is the first complex one I'm getting into. Learning a lot and have a grip on most stuff, just needing practice. One thing that confounds me is concealed AA. What's the best way to deal with them? I try to hang back and spot them in trees and towns but have a real hard time. Should I try and do high speed fly-bys and hope to draw fire, then mark them? I'll sometimes send the AI wingman in and it'll be 50/50 he'll report them. I'm just wondering, tactically, how the heck do you deal with concealed AA in the Ka50? If they're out in the open, it's easy, you line them up and they're done. I'm playing the campaign that comes with and it's tough -- they're well placed and hidden. So what's a chopper pilot to do?
  17. Yesterday, had the day off and the time zone worked out so I could play on the ACG server with you wiley Europeans. Great fun. What an amazing sim this is to dogfight with. Incredible.
  18. Oh I wasn't starting the thread in hopes of getting training organized. Just maybe having more people online TO KILL. MWA HA HA HA HA! I'm suggesting, if there are so few of us, we kind of establish a loose meeting time, so you know at least people are trying to fly at a certain time. I don't know if anyone can identify, but I only get a set amount of hours a week to try and squeeze in some flight time. I try and get it in where I can, but if I knew that on x day at y time there's a general consensus to meet on the server to battle for our lives, then I would damn make sure I'm there. But I'm not trying to force it. Just of we're all into it.
  19. What the boys over at Air Combat Group do for Cliffs Of Dover is incredible. Maybe, if no one wants to organize a campaign for everyone to play, is at the very least we in the North American community try to organize a "Sunday Mission" or something. Nothing formal, just a way for people to know that everyone is trying to make some effort to meet on the DoW server at, say, 5 PM PST for a few hours. A "meet me at the playground after school" type thing, every week. Sound possible?
  20. I'm there when I can, and I spread the word about hopping on the DoW TeamSpeak server to get the comms going.
  21. Ok, so we don't have a proper WWII map, but we can still fly in 3 WWII birds, but I usually go online and find only around six people on the DoW server at any given point. And as far as I know that's the only North American WWII server going. Where is everyone?
  22. Thanks for the rundown Solty. Interesting stuff. I hope they do model that stick resistance in the 109. And Narushima, that's actually genuinely useful information. I've been doing it all wrong. What should one be doing with the throttle in a defensive scissor? Are you powering down so as your pursuer might overtake you, or is it full throttle and trying to work a sharper angle with timed turns?
  23. It seems that most text books call the 190 the superior fighter to the 109, but the latter seems more capable, at least more nimble. Why does the 190 have so much notoriety?
