  1. Thanks for all replies. I've solved it now though. Dunno why I didn't check it properly before but I could actually configure the trackir z axis in game like I did with the axis on the joystick before. Set the axis as a slider and then curve it to offset the center to be about 15-20% zoomed out. :) Thanks all for your effort though!!!
  2. This is offcourse what I was thinking too. Before I used an axis control on my throttle for zoom. I could "fine tune" that axis and turn it into a "slider" in game and then adjust the slider curve so that center zoom was in fact further back. But this is not workable with TrackIR "axises" in game is it? @blackbelter: Yes this is what I do now, but it's a hassle. The best way would be if I could offset the center of the Z axis in the TrackIR software but I don't know if it's possible.
  3. Thanks for the input. I deleted the file "C:\Users\User\Saved Games\DCS\Config\View\SnapViews.lua" That seemed to reset the bad saved snap view. However, I've still not understood and managed to get a "default center" view that is centered but not as zoomed in by default...
  4. Hi all, Just got myself a TrackIR 5 today. I love it. However. I'm using TrackIR Z axis as Zoom View and not as cockpit translation. And it works great except when I center view I find the default zoom level to bee too close. Is there some way to save or tweak trackir to have the "center" of the Z axis at a slightly negative number? (I'm hoping you gurus know what I mean).:helpsmilie: EDIT: Also, I've managed to save a non centered cockpit view. How in tarnation do I reset it to center???
  5. trim when not in FD mode I'm not sure I want to agree with you here. (I still may be wrong however) Because when changing collective during trimmed flight the AP changes your pitch. This I question! Is it to maintain speed or altitude? Your saying it does not take current velocity into account when trimming. But it seems to me that it does. It "should" not be altering pitch to maintain ALT, as ALT channel is OFF right? So for what other reason than maintaining speed, is it changing my pitch when I alter collective? I think I would rather have the AP not touch my trimmed pitch when I change collective. To be an even more annoying questioning rookie :) I'd also like to add another thing to the table regarding trim. You say, when trimming, I tell the AP to maintain aircraft attitude. Sure, it does. But if I'm using rudder when trimming, it actually seems bugged to me. Some times in windy conditions I need to apply a bit of rudder to fly straight trimmed. But sometimes, especially when turning with rudder at low speeds, I come around to the heading I want, release trim button, and the darn thing keeps turning and turning. Seems like it's sometimes deciding to maintain heading where the nose is pointing when I release the trim button, and some times it decides to maintain current rudder input when released. I find this extremely annoying. Thoughts and reflections on this? :) Chris
  6. I would like to add a question on this topic. I do understand the trimming principle, but people vaguely mentions speed. I always fly with FD OFF and pitch, roll, heading channels on AP. When I trim people say I'm telling the autopilot to hold my pitch, roll and heading. But, it seems to me that airspeed also has something to do with it all. Is it so, that it holds those 3 channels, at the current speed held when the trimmer is released? /C
  7. Ah I suppose you're right. It will take some time getting used to it. Great, thanks. I'll give this a try!
  8. I've tried this now. It's awesome. However, I find it a tad slow in response and a bit hard to look with precision. Especially when using zoom view (not move head forward in cockpit) to look at distant objects. This is really useful when trying to use the Helmet Targeting. However, thats also another thing. When zooming in, it seems to zoom in a tiny bit below the helmet targeting reticle exponentially, so when zoomed in max, you can't even see the helmet reticle. Thoughts and comments on that? I liked how much it freed up to have headtracking. I'm getting a TrackIR 5. How mush more precise and responsive will that be? Does the real TrackIR work better with 6DOF? I found it very difficult to i.e smootly look down and "in" on the autopilot buttons. Look down on them is fine, but actually getting closer to them was almost impossible due to input "inprecisiveness". On a last note, alas it was really cool with headtracking, but I felt it was actually harder to really fly with it. When your look view isnt dead center and always swaying a little bit to the left or right and up and down, it's hard to get a feel for the helicopters pitch and bank angles. Supposedly the TrackIR does a better job with precision?
  9. Good thing with the T.Flight HOTAS X though is that I can lock the twist action and instead there are another fingertip rudder control axis on the throttle, which ought to be nicer to use since it will never interfere with bank / pitch input on the stick, but right now I'm using that throttle axis from zoom in and out and thus I have to use the twist action for rudder controls. It'll be sweet to get the TrackIR though. It'll free up so much fiddling. But I guess you still have to use the keyboard or move your hand to the mouse to interact with the interactive cockpit? Or can you look at a switch and have TrackIR interpret a wink to flick a switch? ;)
  10. Adding my 2 cents here as due. Thank you so much for this!
  11. @Isegrim Ok. I use a Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS X throttle and stick which I bought like a month ago. The stick is twist action so I use that as anti-torque / rudder. I know it's a bit budget, but so far it seems good enough for me as an entry level HOTAS. My main gripe with it so far is that it only hat one hatswitch, which is on the stick. It would be good with another, and maybe also a scroller on the throttle. But for the most part it's OK. It just means I have to do a bit more on the keyboard. I don't currently have any headtracking hardware, but I'm beginning to understand the seemingly IMMENSE help TrackIR seems to provide. No more fiddly zooming in and out to view buttons and switches in the cockpit and no more having to use the hatswitch to look around. Getting a TrackIR seems almost like a MUST more than "would-be-nice". What are your experiences with TrackIR 5? @P*Funk Awesome man!!!! Effing awesome!! That was my main rage-point, because those videos are so darn low res and the fact the interactive lessons makes you learn faster.
  12. Great tip, thanks! Didn't know there where in fact USER created INTERACTIVE training missions!
  13. Ah. Thanks for your comments guys! Actually, even though my original post sounded more like a raging rant, the point of this post was getting some encouragement and recommendations from the more experienced pilots like yourselves, hence I posted in the chit-chat forum. Can anyone recommend a group or community that flies together on a semi-casual basis and are open to rookies and teaching them? Somewhere you can just "pop in" to have a session "on the fly" perhaps or somethign similar? Thanks again for all encouragement!
  14. Thanks for all answers! I actually held out for a few hours tonight with the KA-50 and watched some tutorial about trim and autopilot. Actually managed to get it semi-right, and even managed to employ some Vikhrs and Rockets. Never figured out how to employ the gun.., but I'll hopefully find some tutorial on that too.
  15. Thanks for your replies. @159th_Viper: It's hard to get a grip on the DCS Series, in the way how detailed it is. I now understand the DCS FC3 is NOT as detailed as these modules I've bought. What exactly is the difference between FC3 aircraft and e.g. A-10C DLC aircraft? Flight model? Fully modeled cockpits with "mouse operation". The sheer amount of controls for the A-10C and the BS2-KA-50 in sim mode are just overwhelming. The Su-25T of DCS world felt like it had about HALF the amount of controls (key-binds). Is the DCS World Su-25T more like the FC3 craft in "amount of controls" or is the SU-25T more simple just because it's an older aircraft that is less technologically advanced?
  16. Hello all, I just needed to write off a bit. I started playing DCS World a few weeks back and learned to fly the SU-25T. I felt it was just about the right amount of difficulty on Sim-mode. Game-Mode was too easy. What made learning much easier was the INTERACTIVE training lessons with the SU-25T. Now seeing as there was a deal on steam for severals DCS DLC's yesterday I decided to buy Black Shark 2 and A10-C. Now, I though that the SU-25T had a good level of difficulty. I've now hit a brick wall. Flying about in the KA-50 in game mode felt somehow too easy with all of the auto-locking and "cheaty" invasive unit icons, but the SIM-mode is just downright outrageous. How does one go about learning to fly this thing in a good way? The included NON-INTERACTIVE, LOW-RESOLUTION pieces of unadequate crap videos are just not going to happen. There's also very few good tutorial videos on youtube to find. I'm one of those guys that's just never ever going to do a full manual system startup on this thing. But I want a bit more of a challenge than game-mode gives. I feel very discouraged now to continue with this. Thoughts, opinions and helpful comments and tips is greatly appreciated! /Chris
  17. Ok guys thanks for enlightening me. @kontiuka I've added a +1 on your wish thread ;)
  18. +1 on all accounts above, especially "the switch for the Vikhr salvo launch mode"
  19. Hello all, I've got the latest version of DCS World (Steam) and I've got a problem, or an issue if you will. I've searched the forums and found a couple of similar threads. Issue: Releasing 2 vikhr missiles simultaneously (or close to simultaneously). Setting releasemode to "SALVO (All at once)", 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 or 0.4. Setting salvo size to 1, 2, 4 or ALL. None of these settings, or combination of them will release more than 1 Vikhr missile. However, I've found out the pressing LCTRL+V actually will release 2 Vikhr's. This is noticable on the HUD, where the Laser guidance circle seem to center itself rather than beeing skewed to the side of the active Vikhr-tube. Anyway, someone stated in another thread that pressing LCTRL+V (SALVO-mode) supposedly would be the same as setting releasemode switch to SALVO and SALVO-switch to about 0.4. But that will not work. What grinds my gears is that there are no other visual cue I've actually set SALVO-mode (LCTRL+V) with the Vikhr's than trying to determine if the laser guidance circle seems centered. Anyone else got this?
