Ok, so i know that you can bork the P-51 into using 75inches by causing a failure of the regulator. When I do this it doesnt not seem to work reliably, probabaly because the regulator is broken. Doesnt anyone know how i could mod my game to allow for 75inches as a setting?

Yes that spit will be quite good. Especially the new spit XIV, will be as fast or faster than everything else were getting, a better or equal climber, and the best turner by far lol. -

Clearly this has become a 190 vs 51 thread. Which it was not intended to be. No one here stated the 51 or 190 was better. -

Lowest Drag means highest dive speed. P/W has little effect on absolute maximum dive speed. As an example, take the P-47. Terrible P/W, but can dive better than planea with alot better P/W, like the 109 or 190. The difference in P/W on these planes is large, and P-47 still dives much faster due to being much lower drag. Perhaps not initially, but that is highly dependent on the speed an altitude at which these planes start the dive. The P-47 Does Dive VERY FAST. The only plane I think could out dive it is a 51, and only just. I am making more videos. Also this inst a 190 vs 51 competition. I'm not claiming the 51 is better in these tutorials, just trying to show how you need to fly it vs a specific plane to win. I will very likely make my own videos on how to kill the Pony in the Dora as well. -

I am in the process of making a No Icon tutorial videos. I have several more in the works already. Decided about 6 posts ago that is was necessary. Although in the video I do mention that it is very easy to out-turn the Dora and kill it that way. The have never claimed this is the only way to kill the thing. The difficulty in doing that is like I said in the video, the Dora knows it cant win a sustained turning duel, so it tends to decline. Its favorite maneuver is to zoom climb over and over and wait you to either make a mistake that cost you your zoom advantage and he goes into a sustained climb in escapes, or B: you lose alot of E shooting your .50s as you zoom and he gets away because the thing is made of depleted uranium. what I showed is what i think is the safest way to kill the Dora, ie: staying in high speed zooms until you have a decisive E advantage and you never let yourself be slow enough for him to use his sustained climb on you. TBH, although this tactic will work on humans and AI alike, there are faster ways of doing it, they just don't work as safely on the AI Dora since its Damage Model was delivered straight from Mt. Olympus. If you make even one E-Retention mistake and get too slow, that blasted thing will go into a climb and wait till you lose all your E due to recoil of you guns pulverizing it and he eventually climbs away at 200mph or so leaking like a sieve but performing just the same. -

Did you even read my previous posts? I used the labels so that people could see in the video. Normally I wouldn't let the thing get so far away as 2nm. Although, using the zoom in DCS you can see stuff out to 10nm. Not sure if using labels is "disturbing", I hope you didn't throw up or anything...Furthermore, one of the reasons it takes so long is that the DM makes it very hard to kill the Dora when your just making passes on it. You have to hose the thing to death. Also, I like how you just assumed I cant do with with the icons off simply because I left them on for the tutorial. The icons are on for for 3 reasons: 1. New players can easily track the bandit and understand what is going on so they don't lose it on a youtube video where the compression artifacts might make it very hard to see what I could have seen when i was playing. 2. Allows new players to easily see the rates of closure etc. So that they can be confident in what they saw. 3. This isn't a tutorial on "spot the dot." Nor is a a basic BFM tutorial. -

So, P-51X had jury rigged engine mounting that created alot of Drag. Conversely, a P-47C is not the best model of P47 either. The fact remains however that the lowest drag plane will have the highest dive speed and that is the mustang. Anyhow, this thread isn't about the 47 vs 51 dive speed. I'm working on a follow up video where the Dora tries to zoom with me. -

Your understanding of climbing is completely wrong. Zooms are different than sustained climbs. Yes, the 190 dives instead of zooming with me, but that is not what it normally does. If the 190 zooms with you, and you immelman over then level out and repeat the zoom, you will eventually end up stalling out the 190. I do this all the time. Hell, Ill make a new video for you just so you can see. The 190s Climbing advantage does not help it when we are in such vertical climbs. When climbing stright up like that to the edge of a stall, the plane that makes a better lawn dart wins, and the 51 is a better lawn dart. E retention is what I was using in the video not climb rate. E retention is dependent mostly inertia and low drag, which the 51 has more of both. ALSO, the P-47 does not dive faster than a Mustang. I have already showed this but here it is again, "34. Dive – Several full throttle dives were carried out at these heights and In each the Mustang accelerated away from the P-47 and remained in front." http://www.wwiiaircraftperformance.org/p-47/p-47c-afdu.html -

1. The AI is DCS is not poor. Perhaps not a human, but much better than in any other ww2 sim ive seen. Thats why I made this video, that thing gives people alot of trouble. There are some threads on this. 2. What does it have to do with being 1v1? I suppose someone else could come in at a higher E state in intervene but thats true for any fight regardless of tactics. Hogs are also Corsairs. Regarding the P-47, here is an excerpt from trials carried out on the aircraft. "Dive – Several full throttle dives were carried out at these heights and I each the Mustang accelerated away from the P-47 and remained in front." -

If by the Hog you mean the corsair, US testing showed it to be slower in a dive than the 51. Lol, not realistic in proving tactics? So since you state only a stupid pilot would be beaten by this, it follows that all you have to do is beat me to prove it so. Alternatively, if you lose, I am either right about this, or you are one of those pilots you disdain so much. Anyhow, this conversation is derailing this thread so I'm done. I had no intention of making this into a plane v plane discussion thread, as was stated, no one will ever win that. This isn't even supposed to be a argument thread. But you said my tactic wont work on a human pilot, for as yet unstated reasons, so I had to respond. Anyhow, this conversation is derailing this thread so I'm done. -

Challenge Accepted. Also this isn't boom and zoom. I started this from Co-E and Co-alt. Nothing out dives a 51 starting at co-alt and co-e. A Dora is close, so if it had more speed at the start it might get away. The 51 and Doras dive are close enough that you wont see a huge difference except after an extended dive. -

- NOPE lol. Dora does not have better dive, its close, but not better. So by "exactly" your admitting this works? Also you haven't accepted my challenge, perhaps it is because you don't actually own P-51 and are making comments regarding something you haven't played based on other "sims" -

Nope. Works with Co-E as well. 51 v 51 you have to manage your climb better, but vs the Dora you have a better zoom so you get above him and that's match. I do this from Co-E more often than not. Don't believe me, then fight me and find out. -

Yes this works on a human player..........physics didn't change. This is the primary tactic I use in the multi-player server after the merge. Works like a charm every time just about. Only time if fails is when I screw up my zoom. Obviously you dont do when he is right on your tail, as he will cut off your turn and get you while your stalling. You do this after a merge so that is enough separation that he cant do that. Of course, you could always take me on and find out :P -
DCS vs Other Sims, what makes the difference FM wise?
USARStarkey replied to USARStarkey's topic in Chit-Chat
I try to play aces high but I'm torn. i love the persistence and scale, but I hate some of the FM's. Warbirds seems better but the visuals are awful and the game is dead. I hate il2's fms period. Everything in that game feels so squishy. ( am not refering to CLOD or BOS here) DCS make me really excited because I think we will find advantages and disadvantages of these planes that we've never seen before in the other sims. Everything may not boil down to who turn tighter or who is faster or who climbs better. I have a feeling based on some of the things in my last post that there will be all sorts of other factors to consider in DCS WW2. What if a plane with more speed cant keep its power up for any amount of time? Il2 BOS's 109F4 can reach 1,42 ata, but it is almost meaningless because you have to revert to 1.3 ata after about 60 seconds unless you want a engine death. What if we find that one plane turns better sustained and slow, but another can hang in a dogfight because it can maintain its E a higher speed long enough to somewhat negate that advantage? DCS is so different that I honestly have no idea what to expect from some of the planes we are getting. -
DCS vs Other Sims, what makes the difference FM wise?
USARStarkey replied to USARStarkey's topic in Chit-Chat
Certain E-Retention related tactics work better in DCS than they do in other sims. For example, In the P-51 the sustained turn in this game is about 195-200mph. However, in DCS right around 250-225mph you reach a area where even though you are pulling on the stick just below the buffet, the rate deceleration becomes so low that you can do many 360's before you reach sustained turn speed. This does not happen many other sims. Take Aces High for example, or Il246. In both of these games deceleration in a turn is near constant and you get to sustained corner speed much more rapidly. Another set of tactics I like in DCS is the extensive use of energy climbs. Yes, these work other sims but the work better in DCS for two major reasons: 1. Extremely low aileron and elevator authority at low speed just before stalling out makes gunnery in the vertical much harder than it is in other games. 2. Energy in general seems to be managed differently. It is hard for me to describe what else is different, but I can say that fighting seems to devolve into turn fights far less often than it seems to in other Sims. I've been doing WW2 sims for over 10 years and SOMETHING in this department is different. Although I cant quite put my finger on it. -

I am at max power and RPM the entire time. Every so often(I think in the video I do it once) I shift the throttle to zero when I start going less thant 70mph at the apex of the climb since the engine wont get any airflow. I only do this however when the heat is really high over the red line. Just make sure you watch your heat. The RPM's I leave at 3000 and dont change for the duration of combat, although I to bring them down to about 2700 between fights if I dont need the power to climb. Also, you can watch my video in 1080p and full screen where you can see all my settings etc. -

i had labels on so you could see. You can do the same thing pretty easily with them off. especially if you use DCS's insane zoom to keep track. -
If they make a P-38 Ill buy 5 copies our of sheer gratitude. hopefully theyd do the L model so it would be able to compete with all the super late war planes RRG is making, sans the spit.
