POLL: BEST PLANE IN A2A ROLE IN DCS WW2
USARStarkey replied to USARStarkey's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Dude, its just a poll on what THINK will be best. Nobody is debating anything, I was just curious to see what people expected from the various planes. -
Its set to default conditions, I figured those would be most conducive to performance. I get your point about the AI, but the AI for whatever reason, doesn't use WEP. Around 20k for example, The AI P-51 only gets to 406mph at 61inches, I can break about 416. I should be getting 420ish, but I guess I cant fly straight enough. My complaint though is at 26k and up where I should be approaching or even exceeding 440mph. Ill mess with the weather and see what happens. Ill try to change humidity or something then.

Yeah Ive got the throttle full forward. Full rpm. but it only hits 60-62 mp.
-
Ive got emergency power. that is the problem it doesnt work
-
Manual states crit alt of merlin is 28000. historical references state 26000. i cannot hit 67 inches at either of these altitudes. As a result, I can only get up to about 430mph instead of 437 or 442. Please help.
-
Whatever the issue, I cannot achieve the rated power of 67in MP at the rate altitude of 26000. Or 28000 like in the manual. I have to go down to 24000 to get 67in. Fastest Speed Ive gotten to was 434 at 30k which is consistent for a bot at 61 inches.

OK, so there is a bug or something going on here. Maybe. I cant seem to get to Max RAM air power. critical alt for ram air according to manual is 28000. 26000 if you go by ww2 flight testing. Regardless, I cant seem to get these value at any altitude over 24000ft. I get 61 to 63 at alts above this. am i doing something wrong?

I also dislike that my post was moved to the bug section of the forums. If I had wanted there I would have put it there myself. I don't see this as a bug. And whether it is or not is not relevant. It wasn't intended as a bug post.

It can be done quicker, that was just the first time I've ever done it and I wasn't expecting it. Its really easy to do here is how if you guys wanna try it out: Get SLOW. Very SLOW. and be turning as tight as possible. Drop all your flaps. The last stage doesn't deploy till your like 140mph or so. Crank the Rudder Full Right or Left, whichever you are turning AS you turn and crank the rudder, dip the nose and roll slightly into the turn. Eventually, your rudder will kick out. Now that your flying sideways, cut cut back your engine fast! if you dont youll kill in seconds. to recover, you have to roll left and rudder left very carefully without crashing, and simultaneously raise your flaps really quickstep. 7/10 times i crash or break my motor.

So in speed runs a 26000 feet i am able to get to about 430mph. I am using 67inch MP, 3000rpms. At 30000ft using a bot assigned to maintain a even higher speed and hold its alt, I got to 434mph. At 20k, I got to 402mph with a bot, and 410 on my own. This is not nearly fast enough. So what am I doing wrong? P-51 speed vs altitude http://www.wwiiaircraftperformance.org/mustang/P-51D_15342_Level.jpg P-51 Bot Tests, which are rather consistant with both the real thing and my bot tests. Which makes me think Im making some kind of mistake. http://i.imgur.com/EIzfhUw.gif ED test results at 61 inches (I was at 67) http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1577405&postcount=7 Incidentally, I have no issue overtaking the 190D at the same alt, with the bot told to fly straight and at the higher than realistic speed. So do i need to open a radiator or something?

curious what you guys think :P

I agree with that absolutely man. But seeing as were stuck with a D-30, i think it should get as much performance as possible. But yeah, and M would be much more equivalent and reasonable.

Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
USARStarkey replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
DCS: B-36 Peacemaker So....yeah we need this module. Complete with goblin fighter and multi-crew and a nap simulator for the crew compartments in the back. -
It is not the gun smoke. It happens constantly after the fight starts with that many aircraft. Not just when people fire
-
So if were talking 20k on up to say 35k. The P-47 would be slightly more agile and if its using 150 grade fuel equal in speed. Without the 150 grade fuel, the P-47 is slower except at very very high altitudes above 30k-ish. IMO, if were getting at late model 109, we should get a P-47 has late war fuel in order to compete more realistically. I feel that it would somewhat lessen the joy of flying the Jug if I have to go up against a 109K in the least favorable conditions that can be conjured. ie: a late model 109K vs a D-28 or D-30 P-47 without the fuel it would have had during the era the 109k actually existed. Without the 150, the 109 will be decidedly superior. With 150, I feel they would be about even.
-
So going purely from memory here, I believe the F4 109 was authorized 1.42 ata boost in nov 42 or something. Top speed going from like 375 to 410mph or so. I have always been curious as to why Germany went to the G-series when on paper that appear to be inferior all the way up till you get to the G-14 in mid 44. While play the new il2, I noticed I couldn't hold 1.42 ata more more than a minute! If this is accurate, it make the switch from E to A make since for sustained performance reasons. However, a video game is not a valid source, so does anyone here know if there is any documentation proving such short boost timeson the F4 at 1.42ata before ruining the engine?
-
Sorry Friedrich my response was rather rude, I apologize. Why would we get the 1.98 ata K? I thought that was severely debunked in the forums already? Also, the screenshots show the gauge going to 1.8 ata, so what makes you think it will be 1.98ata. I certainly hope its not 1.98 that would ridiculous. But A non 150 grade fuel 47 hits about 435, whereas with 150, as friedrich kinda posted, can get up to 444 or so.
-
I was already aware of the use of 150 grade fuel. If I had not been I would not have made this post :) What I asked was whether or not it will get it in the game or not. I think if would be fair seeing as we are going up against very late model 109s and 190s. It should probably be assumed that IT IS later in the year since were getting a 109K (October 44) and a 190D (Dec 44 or Jan 45) OR that this is just a 8th air force P-47.

My Setup: GTX680 16GB ram 4670k In DCS I can normally run enormous scenarios without any issue. However the prop planes are killing me. Ive been trying to run a scenario with 20 190s vs 12 p-51s and 16 bear bombers. FPS drops to 18 or so as soone as the fight begins. Lagg only occurs when im looking at the mass of planes fighting each other, even at great distances. I have tried turning down gfx, but with no change what-so-ever. I have a friend with a similar setup: GTX 770, 4770k, 8gb of ram, and he gets 60fps without breaking the sweat. His FPS rarely dropped below 50. our GPUs and cPUs are similar so im not sure what gives. the 770 and 680 are pretty similar, 770 being a tad more powerful, but not 40fps more powerful. Can anyone help?
-
So, I was just curious if anyone knew whether the D-30 in DCS wil use 130 grade or 150 grade fuel. Given that all German aircraft are very late marks I personally think the 150 grade would be necessary for the D-30 to be competitive. But who knows.

Turn Performance and Lift Coefficient
USARStarkey replied to USARStarkey's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
OK. So after a very long and arduous process I was able to reverse calculate the CLMax for a sustained 500ft ASL turn. ClMax = 1.8 which corresponds very well with this chart.....:http://www.dtic.mil/cgi-bin/GetTRDoc?AD=ADA800868 not surprising really.
