So 3 years from now? -
Huh? Lots of things that are flying under the beta banner, are still on sale in steam. One such example is the L-39 which requires the 1.5 to use anyway.
-
To be specific, my question is when, (if ever) will I be able to buy the mirage- module from steam. Not whether there will be a temporary reduction on price (sale)
-
I'd like to know if there's any plans / eta for the sale of this plane on steam?

There were a plethora of cases also involving Sweden and Finland. In the mid 70's a Swedish fishing boat was boarded within Finnish waters suspected for being a spy ship, the crew of the coast guard saw them dump equipment overboard and some time later they were able to dive and bring 2 radios up which had their dials set for Kaliningrad mil frequencies. Between the finding and the diving the Swedes had already confidentially said that the ship in no way was spying on anyone, which made president Kekkonen somewhat mad. Besides this, several spyships had been mapping out potential locations for amphibious landings for decades, Norwegians had also been staging nato patrols deep within USSR territory through Finland, and the military intelligence wing of Sweden had been found mapping docks and renting apartments near mil. related sites. With all that in mind, I can only imagine what the situation might've been between Sweden/Denmark/warsaw/ussr on the Baltic sea.

Interesting. I thought the way the version of mavericks Swedes bought was used, was that it was aimed through the periscope-like thingie on the right side of Viggen's hud while listening to lock-on tone from helmet. But if it can display the maverick seeker's picture on the round radar screen, it sounds quite nifty. Where is this displayed? I thought the AJ- and AJS versions didn't have those display screens that the JA-Viggen did?

comparatively in a/g the MiG and Vig seem to be quite similiar in the ground pounding within DCS. Viggen can theoretically carry a lot more ordnance on more pylons, but practically this would mean losing the countermeasure pods on the pylons as well as making the range and speed of it much worse. Viggen also comes with the maverick and and the Rb05 missile which seem to be pretty much on the level of the KH-66, with maybe a slight advantage in the precision going for the maverick. As far as the dumber weapons go, both seem to be able to carry quite a lot of them in several different forms. Unsure if Viggen will come with cluster bombs or bigger bombs that the MiG can haul, but rocket/cannon wise they seem pretty much the same. The real difference between them seems to come from the upgraded weaponry of the AJS upgrade if the bomb dispensers/anti ship missiles are made available in DCS, as well as the possible a/g radar modes. It would certainly be interesting to watch the 104'th like servers once this bird is released, with either side lobbing glide bombs at eachother's defences and airfields.

maybe a little thing called air/ground radar too? :music_whistling:

Strong personal preference was towards the JA- fighter version, as groundpounding doesn't give the same amount of excitement to me compared to multiplayer air combat. Besides that, the fighter version was the one with all the cool displays, datalink screens and other goodies, while the aj- and the upgraded ajs- version lacked those. I'll still probably buy the ajs though simply because it'll likely be as high quality as the mig.

After last patch, 27ER's performance is very weak again
Sleksa replied to Chimango's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
It's not so much about the armament as it's about the aircraft carrying it. The cockpit model in DCS is the 80's version, while the manual makes references to the AN/APG-63(V)1 which would indicate that the aircraft would be a 2000's upgraded one. -

Fact coming from where? In SIMHQ forums cobra said the 2 upcoming aircraft are 'more advanced than the tomcat' edit: source http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/4131604/Re:_Any_Updates_on_The_DCS_F-1#Post4131604

This is what footage from YT makes the datalink picture look like:
-
I guess with the information we have it's pointing at a interceptor version. One example is the briefly mentioned CRT-screen related stuff, and the multifunction display wasn't a part of the initial AJ strike version, but rather pioneered with the JA interceptor as far as I know. Personally I'd quite prefer the fighter version as it'd be a nice counterpart to the migs and mirages, as well as hopefully having the second functional datalink between player-piloted aircraft.

I'm not at home so I can't check, but on the A-10 every instrument has it's own folder where the instrument can be turned into it's own viewport. MiG-21 doesn't have this so as far as I know it's impossible. I've spent a lot of time trying to get some of the things showing as a viewport (altitude/attitude indicators and such) but the necessary structure would need to be made from scratch.
-
Wait, since when do mirages, MiG-21's, F-14's or Su-27's carry amraam's? :music_whistling:
-
IIRC Radar screen was modified to be able to show the maverick seeker picture

Some info on the Interceptor version's radar: http://ericssonhistory.com/Global/Ericsson%20review/Ericsson%20Review.%201983.%20V.60/Ericsson_Review_Vol_60_1983_2.pdf

Actually on another forum Cobra said that the 2 unannounced aircraft are "more advanced than the tomcat", so it could mean the following: That there's a ground attack Viggen and a unspesified airplane That there's a fighter-Viggen and a unspesified airplane with ground radar That there's 2 sets of Viggen, ground attack and fighter That the Viggen's been a massive red herring and instead there's a yak-28 as well as yak-38 in the works! :pilotfly:
-
I think it'd be a really cool addition, but at this point I'd pretty much love any new jet to DCS, and any kind of news from LN on whether the 2 unannounced jets are still in the pipes for their 2015 deadline. Compared to the mirage 2k, they should really be on the final phases by now if they still want to release something this year.

There's quite a lot of options to choose from. As far as I know, there's quite a lot of different Viggen versions (Interceptor, ground attack, anti-ship, recon and EW versions). Out of these, there are several "block versions" of each as well. For example the initial interceptor version was armed with aim-4's and early aim-9's, while the Skyflash was integrated in the 80's, and Amraam capability in the late 90's (and the whole fleet dismantled nearly immediately after). The weapons loads weren't interchangeable either as far as my quick checkfinding goes, so the interceptor version couldn't carry mavericks or other anti-ship missiles and the ground attackers couldn't use modern aim-9's or skyflash. Also if the viggen is to have chaff dispensers, it needs to be a mid 90's variant :music_whistling:.

It's obvious now what it is! Complex missiles with Advanced Targeting Parameters, check Custom shaders for enhanced visual fidelity, check Unique visual features (In-pilot customization, etc.), check New audio cues and enhanced fidelity, check Far more complex avionic and computer systems than in the MiG-21, check New and unique PFM features and aerodynamic configurations, check New or unique methods of propulsion or force distribution, check
-
To be honest I'm completely fine with any and or all of those mentioned possibilities :music_whistling:

I guess some prefer the Priest's wife and others prefer the daughter. For me at least the 25's PD version seems like a perfect thing. Very few aircraft in DCS currently and in the foreseeable future can come even close to 1.5 Mach on a combat load, yet the 25 can blast considerably faster. For it's era (60's) it was also a high tech piece with performance that had no rival. Overall that period of time where flying the aircraft was still for the most part done by the pilot instead of the plane and the iphone systems inside it, is one of the reasons I'm personally quite enjoying the cold war era aircraft coming to DCS in general (Mirage/MiG/Possible Viggen).
