  1. And there you've answered your own question. Not too hard, was it? There's a reason why every flight sim ever has provided keyboard bindings. As for "reasonable", it would be a complete waste of my time to try to explain the legal considerations that relate to industry practice and how that gives rise to reasonable expectations, so I'll simply put it to you that you're wrong.
  2. Which is my point in bringing it up. Some users may be able to dismiss the fact I have to use a keyboard and say I just have to accept it. But I'm in the same boat as people who don't own pedals, and there are plenty of keybindings that people will want to make even outside of pitch-roll etc. My point is that it is not unexpected that keybindings (of any type) would be necessary. The way some people respond you'd think I'd turned up with a 15 year old computer running Windows 2000 and demanding to know why it didn't work.
  3. Only a few people need rudder and throttle?
  4. They say they are not bound and refuse; I asked. I pointed out that consumer law overrides a term in their licence agreement which claims not to allow refunds, they have not responded. What do you mean "it is nowhere written"? It doesn't sound like you're familiar with English common law. The UK Consumer Rights Act sections around "satisfactory quality" and "fitness for purpose" are judged on what the "reasonable person" would expect. A previous industry standard or business practice is highly likely to give rise to such an expectation In any case, ED has said they're not bound by any of it, European or UK law in spite of the countries into which they are selling the products
  5. Every flight simulator ever released has had keyboard control as the basic form of control, a flight stick is an *add-on*. They're legally required to provide a product that is consistent with what a reasonable person would expect in terms of functionality. Keyboard bindings falls into that category. That's not quite how UK consumer law works, but let's go with that; if I can ask for a refund in a defined period, then why are they denying it? I only purchased it about 3 hours ago
  6. I'm sorry to say you're confused about that. If money changes hands and a consumer transaction has occurred, then the consumer has all the ordinary rights. I am, and I work on consumer law issues. Once money has changed hands for a product, all the old s11-s14 SGA entitlements are read into the contract. I was well aware it was beta, with all that implies. Lack of keybinding is a major functionality issue that properly falls into the category of alpha. I can't even take off because the throttle doesn't work. I expected it wouldn't be finished. What I didn't expect was that I literally cannot use the plane in any way, shape or form due to its inability to take off, rudder, flight controls etc
  7. Fair enough, sounds logical; I hope you're right
  8. I suppose my disappointment is compounded by the fact I (1) Injured my right hand quite badly in a car accident a few years ago, I find flight sticks incredibly uncomfortable to use and so keyboard is the only way I can use ED (2) I'm a trainee solicitor so I don't earn a huge amount of money. I also had to work over Christmas, I took today and tomorrow off to play Mirage 2000C and was really looking forward to it (3) ED's response is that they don't have to comply with UK consumer law (which provides exactly the same consumer rights for digital products as for physical ones) when I queried the possibility of a refund. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 essentially inserts into every contract clauses that the goods must be of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose; if they are unsatisfactory in a particular way that must be specifically brought to the consumer's attention prior to purchase. The act also provides a right to a refund and any contractual terms that are inconsistent with the act (such as ED's clause claiming they offer no refunds) are struck out. As I said before, inability to use the keyboard is a pretty fundamental issue, it's really an alpha issue not a beta issue. Even for people who are physically capable of using flight sticks, I understand there are still problems with throttle and rudder. Anyway, I'll wait to see what they say in the support ticket
  9. Is that "Friday based on a little inside information" or "I'm hoping it's Friday"?
  10. A couple of days? In the northern hemisphere most offices would have been back on the 4th Jan. An ETA is a reasonable request given this isn't just a few minor bugs but things like keybinding that renders the product unusable to many users. Beta stage is supposed to cover minor issues, or issues related to specific hardware, not major functionality that prevents a significant class of users from using the product.
  11. Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 Something I have been surprised is that whenever I use the CBU-105, the programme stutters when the submunitions go off. That is the only time I ever see any issue, otherwise I run it on all highest settings and it looks beautiful (though I absolutely cannot wait for DCS World 2 and the Hornet)
  12. Me too! Really looking forward to Hornet + DCS World 2. Would really like to do some ISIS strike missions
  13. Ah, got it. Do you know if the F/A-18C mod they are using has full A2G and A2A capability?
  14. Question answered already on another thread
  15. Confused - F/A-18C already available? I'm really confused, I just saw this thread and video about VFA-113 flying F/A-18C hornets. This is already a flyable aircraft in DCS?? http://www.vfa-113.com/

  17. When I was referring to knots, it was that I've been checking the external view (which has speed and alt at the bottom) to make sure I wasn't misinterpreting the aircraft instrumentation Thanks for the heads up about internal fuel, that does help though helpfully I won't need these training wheels for long. And thanks for the tip that combat modes show TAS as opposed to indicated
  18. Just a quick update. I've found a sweet spot, I'm cruising at 26k feet and I seem to be able to maintain reasonable speed in the 450+ zone. My speed does gradually bleed off and I do need to regularly do a quick AB sprint to get it back up, but it is much more manageable now. I'm wondering if I messed something up before? Did I have the flaps on or something? I know that must sound ludicrously incompetent. I am getting better at this stuff though, I seem to be able to fly the aircraft from point A to point B, and occasionally even best an F-16
  19. Ideally I'd like to be at about 400 knots. I'm about 80 kilometres out from enemy aircraft and I would like to have altitude and decent speed so that I have maximum energy for manoeuvring to avoid AMRAAMs, and can throttle up to supersonic to flee once I've sent a few long-range IR shots in their direction No, my speed just dribbles down to about 250 knots and then I switch on the AB to avoid it going even lower. At this point my nose is high just to try to maintain altitude I'm not sure. I'm on full Su-27 loadout of 2 ECM pods, 2 x r-73, 2 x r-27et and 4xr-27er. I have unlimited fuel on atm (sorry, I know that's not good but I am fairly new and I'm trying to practice my air-to-air BVR tactics). Might the fact that the aircraft has not offloaded any weight by way of fuel consumption be what is holding me back from ordinary performance? I mean, I still would have thought it would be okay. My performance is inferior to a passenger airliner
  20. I'm in the second mission of the Su-27 campaign, and I go up to about 30k feet, and for some reason my aircraft seems unable to hold onto speed at that altitude. My nose is slightly up over the horizon to get some altitude, I'm just below afterburner engine power level and my speed keeps creeping down. I have to periodically push on the afterburner. What is going on? :(
  21. I'd just add, it's really quite fun to set up a B-52 packed with Mk 84s on a bombing run on a Soviet PVO base. And the blast physics are quite good; on one flight, the mk84 got a near miss on the Mig 23 flight line but filled them with shrapnel and blasted off a few wings and tails
  22. Ah brilliant, thanks for the tips! Apologies for my ignorance, what's an AFAC aircraft? Do you mean I have to find some other platform to illuminate the target? How do I go about that? (sorry, I'm rather new at this). And o you mean I have to give it a ground attack task in the mission editor? I think I might also have prejudged it, I had no idea there were such a wide range of aircraft available (B-1Bs! woot). Having a lot of fun playing around pretending I'm bombing the Soviet Air Defence with B-52s and B-1s, or running up missions with Backfires flying into the carrier battle group.
  23. Oh really :( That's a bit disappointing. I also seem to have had problems getting the MLRS or Paladin to fire by themselves. I can get them to point their tubes in the right direction, but I have to jump into the platform and manually fire. I'm feeling a bit confused atm, I've bought DCS FC 3 and Combined Arms, and it seems like it has a slightly unpolished feel to it (as beautiful as it looks, like the devs put it on the market before they'd fully fleshed it all out (for example, the presence of the pilot in some aircraft cockpits but not others). In other ways, the aircraft sometimes seem to behave strangely in a way I don't encounter in, say, SF2. There are inconsistent outputs from the avionics system in the aircraft, navigation, and so on. Anyway, it does look absolutely gorgeous on highest graphics settings and I've had some fun, but it also feels like it needs some work
  24. Are there any particular brands you'd suggest as being generally good quality? I'm completely ignorant of the Flight Stick market. I've found this "Speedlink Black Widow", it seems to have the stick and "additional thrust level with side rudder control" http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/238883.htm#pdpFullProductInformation Do you think that would meet the requirement?
