  1. I'm in the second mission of the Su-27 campaign, and I go up to about 30k feet, and for some reason my aircraft seems unable to hold onto speed at that altitude. My nose is slightly up over the horizon to get some altitude, I'm just below afterburner engine power level and my speed keeps creeping down. I have to periodically push on the afterburner. What is going on? :(
  2. I'd just add, it's really quite fun to set up a B-52 packed with Mk 84s on a bombing run on a Soviet PVO base. And the blast physics are quite good; on one flight, the mk84 got a near miss on the Mig 23 flight line but filled them with shrapnel and blasted off a few wings and tails
  3. Ah brilliant, thanks for the tips! Apologies for my ignorance, what's an AFAC aircraft? Do you mean I have to find some other platform to illuminate the target? How do I go about that? (sorry, I'm rather new at this). And o you mean I have to give it a ground attack task in the mission editor? I think I might also have prejudged it, I had no idea there were such a wide range of aircraft available (B-1Bs! woot). Having a lot of fun playing around pretending I'm bombing the Soviet Air Defence with B-52s and B-1s, or running up missions with Backfires flying into the carrier battle group.
  4. Oh really :( That's a bit disappointing. I also seem to have had problems getting the MLRS or Paladin to fire by themselves. I can get them to point their tubes in the right direction, but I have to jump into the platform and manually fire. I'm feeling a bit confused atm, I've bought DCS FC 3 and Combined Arms, and it seems like it has a slightly unpolished feel to it (as beautiful as it looks, like the devs put it on the market before they'd fully fleshed it all out (for example, the presence of the pilot in some aircraft cockpits but not others). In other ways, the aircraft sometimes seem to behave strangely in a way I don't encounter in, say, SF2. There are inconsistent outputs from the avionics system in the aircraft, navigation, and so on. Anyway, it does look absolutely gorgeous on highest graphics settings and I've had some fun, but it also feels like it needs some work
  5. Are there any particular brands you'd suggest as being generally good quality? I'm completely ignorant of the Flight Stick market. I've found this "Speedlink Black Widow", it seems to have the stick and "additional thrust level with side rudder control" http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/238883.htm#pdpFullProductInformation Do you think that would meet the requirement?
  6. I'm playing combined arms on a mission I've created on the mission editor. I created two GAZ trucks as targets, about ten miles apart; one is the target for an Apache D, an the other is a target for a Reaper. I've loaded up both with AGM-114s. The Apache fires its missiles without incident, but the Reaper for some reason just doesn't want to fire on its target. Is there some additional thing I need to do?
  7. Wow, thanks for all the tips, I really appreciate it. I did pick up the issue of unbalanced ordnance, when I fire off a Kh-29 it really gives the plane a jolt and rolls me in the opposite direction. I think you're right about wind and turbulence too; I've noticed similar issues when I'm flying a Flanker, though much more easy to control and compensate for I have made sure there aren't double bindings for flight control keys, but sometimes the aircraft just loses control. I will bite the bullet and buy a flight-stick, I just spent 2,000 GBP on getting a computer that could do flight sims well and it's only being busy and lazy that has prevented me from going out to buy the stick to match Do you have any suggestions for a good flight stick?
  8. Yes, the autopilot is off while all these issues are initially happening. My aircraft starts to roll without being told, and so on. It's only when it starts to get difficult I try to turn on the autopilot to stabilise the aircraft, and it sometimes makes it worse. I'm not sure if it's wind, or something? Turbulence? I don't know
  9. I'm flying around in my Su-25 in, say, a training mission. I've been flying along rather pleasantly on a fairly constant altitude and heading, plinking a few tanks. So I've passed my targets and I start coming around, and suddenly my aircraft is very difficult to control. It keeps trying to pitch over, rolling without me doing anything, and the autopilot doesn't really seem to help very much at all if I set constant altitude or roll hold. Do you have any tips or suggestions? I am using a keyboard atm, I do intend to buy a flight stick shortly
  10. GTX 980 4gb (with an i7 Quad Core 4790k 4Ghz, 16gb RAM, 42inch monitor... it looks absolutely gorgeous)
  11. Ahh, that explains it. Thanks :) Before I saw your comment I had found another thread that prompted me to bind weapons release to another key, but your comment explains why it is doing this. Thanks very much
  12. I managed to find a fix; by binding it to another key, it seems to work fine there (which is odd, because when I was firing ARMs on the Su-25, it worked fine. It was just with the Vikhr and R-73 on the Su-27 that it seemed to refuse to fire) I binded Num0 as weapons release and it seems to work without an issue now. Thanks for your response though, much appreciated
  13. I found another thread online about this issue and the way to resolve it is to bind Weapons Release to another key. For whatever reason, it simply won't work as space and needs to be another button (I changed it to Num0 and cleared the usual Num0 viewing function as my mouse can do that adequately) Thanks for your responses though, I do appreciate it
  14. Thanks, I have tried that and it doesn't work. I've held it for about ten seconds and nothing happens. I can fire other missiles (like anti-radiation missiles) and I hold the space bar, so I know what the sim requires, as it were. But for some reason, the Vikhr just won't fire. Nor would the R-73 in the Su-27 helmet mounted sight training mission
  15. I installed DCS, and then purchased and installed FC3 and the fighter weapons school EXE. However, when I click the training missions button on the main menu, there are only Su-25 training missions. When I click the FC3 tab, it brings up no missions. If I click the missions button, it does bring up a large number of Su-27 training missions, but no F-15 or other training missions. Is this intended? Are there no F-15 training missions? I vaguely recall (from when I had the old Lock On: Modern Air Combat) many years ago playing an F-15 training mission when I had LOMAC
  16. Hello all, I seem to be having a problem with my Vikhr missile (and others!). I'm in the Su-25 Vikhr training mission, I've followed all the instructions, it's locked, laser is on, ready to fire and I have launch authorisation, but when I press the space bar, nothing happens. I have tried holding it for at least ten seconds, it makes no difference. I encountered someting similar on the Su-27 helmet mounted sight. I used the sight to lock on to the aircraft, I had the lock-on tone and the R-73 was selected, I held the space bar for a number of seconds and nothing happened. Any suggestions?
