  1. Yep, first flight is just a milestone. To be honest, it took USA 15 years form the first flight of YF-22 to F-22A achieves IOC, I won't expect China goes any faster than USA. Although I hope J-20 can achievs IOC by the year 2018, cause according to the latest timetable, WS-15 engine can be operated about in 5 or 6 years, and PL-21 long range missile can catch up with the plane.(PL-10 short range missile is already operational)
  2. the 16000daN class engine WS-15 is still testing, EF2000 also used RB199 for its first flight

  6. Everybody is guessing and waiting. However, we've been waiting for 10 years, so there is no problem to wait for another couple of days. It seems that the only problem today is the weather so we just need to wait for a cleaner day, it shouldn't be long. In today's case, keep an eye the restriction order of the nearby airport will be a smart way to track the date.

  14. Yesterday's picture shows that the nose lifted up and the front wheel leave the ground during the rolling. Somebody said they saw the viewing stand is building beside the airfield suggested the first flight is coming soon
  15. I admit I was being racism and I apologize. But it is important to understand that in Chinese culture, the unite of the country is a very important concept. Although during the Three Kingdom era and Qin Dynasty millions of people were killed but the result of the war is the country become united, so in Chinese culture, the emperor of Jin Dynasty(who ended the Three Kingdom era) and Qin Dynasty is are considered to be great emperor. So is to Han Dynasty, before Han Dynasty beat the Huns, they were forced to give their princess out to the Huns to keep the peace for hundreds of years. Thousands of years later after the Opium War, we finally understand that as a weak country, being invaded is unavoidable. So I think at this point, you can understand why Chinese is so determined on Taiwan issue. In 1950s when China and Soviet Union were brothers, we felt strongly about building a submarine base in China for Soviet Union. Now US airbase is surrounding China with advanced fighters and bombers, I don't think China will serve them by delicious dishes.
  16. This is obvious a CG product. However I want to point out that this CG is made by 高山, who is a professional military CG artist in China and was believed has some inside information channel.
  17. Well......what can I say....maybe I myself is also live in a place just for tourism too:megalol:. The fact is you can go anywhere as long as you have money and time, even beside the airfield where the 5th-Gen fighter is tested in Chengdu city. Of cause some of the place you can't visit such as military base, but as far as I know you can't visit any military base in USA without a permission either. I admit that many of the progress of technology in China is based of foreign brains. But we didn't force them to come and we paid them reasonable price, sometimes even over price. So don't try to judge a country by just watching CNN or wikileak, cause no experience is better than experience it yourself.
  18. The SAM avoid friendly aircraft issue honestly I've never think about it. Being a long range fighter is absolutely important for a Chinese fighter, in fact that's why China purchased SU27 instead of MIG29. However in J-20's case, I want to believe it's designed as a fighter not a fighter-bomber because China is expecting many 5th-Gen fighter all around it: Russia has PAK-FA and so will India and many former Soviet Union countries. Japan and Korea even Taiwan are struggling on buying F35. USA also has airbase not far from China with stealth fighters and bombers. So to deal with all these advanced fighter with a reasonable amount of price, a complex expansive multifunction fighter-bomber is not a wise choice. Of cause it can accomplish some strike task but it be its main business. As a Chinese, I know what Chinese people think. Thousands of years ago we were the strongest country in the world yet we didn't love the taste of blood like the romans or the arabians (no offense). Today I don't think we will be changed especially half of the economy of China is beasd on orders from abroad.:)
  19. I want to point out that this is just a prototype and there're lot's of work still left over, think about how many differences between YF22 and F22A. So I believe the final edition will be much better. For example the 150+ KN thrust WS15 will replace the AL31F by then and maybe by that time the tail will be an RCS reduce model. And we must notice that the PLAAF is build as a national air defense type of military force and I don't think it will change very soon. So PLAAF aircrafts doesn't need to worry to much about what the tail look like because there is the whole SAM system watching its back.Their job is to intercept the invader or attack the enemy AWACS, not to fly above other country to drop the bomb.So we will understand why this bird is so long and has a big nose. Cause the supersonic performance and good radar performance is what PLAAF wanted.
  20. That would be perfect, China will soon earn enough money to develop more advanced aircrafts. This is 5th-Gen fighter we are taking about, it will make much more money than selling T-shirts or cheap cellphones:megalol::megalol::megalol:
  21. Dec 27th live by 网士(finished):http://lt.cjdby.net/thread-1036684-1-2.html Dec 27th live by 飞扬情报部(finished):http://www.fyjs.cn/bbs/htm_data/27/1012/298686.html Dec 28th live by peter_rong & 网士(finished):http://lt.cjdby.net/viewthread.php?tid=1037214&extra=&page=1 Dec 28th live by 飞扬情报部(finished):http://www.fyjs.cn/bbs/htm_data/27/1012/299047.html some new info on 28th: thick fog on the airfield in the morning. One of the live feeder lied to his wife about there's an important meeting and he called sick at work :) the tea bar beside the airfield rised the price 50% because these days their business is on fire First flight is not today as there aren't any banners or decoration there. Beijing time Dec 28th 15:10, high speed rolling and raised nose yet didn't fly Beijing time Dec 28th 17:03, medium speed rolling Beijing time Dec 28th 17:13, end of today's test. wing shape confirmed
  22. I'm glad that we are on the same page, it's not a place to talk about politics. And it's true that there are many photoshop-made aircraft pictures in the internet. I myself was fooled by some of them too. But I can tell you the photos we've seen since Dec 25th are TRUE. Because 1: these days there're thousands of fans gathered around the airfield of the 132th factory where the 5th-gen fighter was build and they post live threads on the forum. The aircraft is on high speed rolling phase and rumor says the first flight is on Dec 28th. There are NO WAY to fool thousands of aircraft maniacs at the same time. The reason why all the pictures are not so clear is because there're also police around the airfield too. It's free to look - even with telescope - but strictly forbidden to use a camera or you might be arrested. 2: As I said, I'm in avionics industry and so as many of my friends. I can't say further more but this one is TRUE. If it's not, them some of my friends may just wasted some of his best years on doing nothing. So I'll cross my fingers and hope for the best. :)
